The literature review thus far has indicated numerous studies have examined the relationship between market orientation (MO)and competitive advantage (CA)leading to greater organizational performance. A substantial number of studies on strategic management orientations have shown significant relationships between MO and organizational performance but direct contribution of CA is still lacking in consensus. Thispaper reviews the literature on the influence of market orientation (MO) towards competitive advantage and the mediating effect of quality assurance in public higher education institutions (PHEIs). The reviews specify that market orientation as the marketing strategic platformis likely to achieve superior value in gaining and sustaining competitive advantage however, within the context of PHEIs such relationships are still inconclusive. Quality assurance (QA) is postulated to have amediating effect in the suggested framework of market orientation and competitive advantage. As QA is becoming a critical factor in the knowledge-based society, thisvariable needs to be explored further in the context of higher education.Thus, the aim of this paper is to accumulate existing literature in the investigationof the relationship between MO and CA as well as the effect of QA towards the performance of PHEIs based on non-financial dimensions.

The objective of this theoretical paper is to explore the relationship of market orientation (MO) and organizational performance in the context of Indian textile processing industry. The study also aims to construct a conceptual model which can hypothesize the relationship between market orientation, firm performance, and entrepreneurial orientation (EO). The conceptual model is drawn with the help of extant literature review of studies conducted by various authors in the area of market orientation and entrepreneurial orientation. The study presents a model depicting the inter-relationship among MO, EO and firm performance. The proposed model also propounds that the relationship between market orientation and firm performance is mediated by entrepreneurial orientation. This work will be helpful for different stakeholders of textile processing industry to understand the importance of MO and EO and their impact on the performance of the organization. Also, the proposed conceptual model showing inter-relationship among MO, EO and firm performance is an addition to the existing pool of knowledge.

Purpose: this paper aims to examine the mediating effect of absorptive capacity on the the relation between two construct: learning orientation (LO) and market orientation (MO) and organizational performance (OP).Design/methodology/approach: data were gathered through field survey of 190 senior managers in manufacturing organizations in Jordan. The analysis was conducted using two-stage least squares estimators for latent variable models.Findings: Results indicate that learning orientation, market orientation and absorptive capacity all have a positive and significant effect on organizational performance. Moreover, results suggest that absorptive capacity partially mediates the relationship between learning orientation and organizational performance. This study concludes that while knowledge acquisition and values of external knowledge are important, related prior knowledge, basic skills and research and development (R&D) (absorptive capacity) are important as well. Practical implications: For managers in manufacturing organizations, the study proposes that organizations should focus on attaining high levels of Learning orientation and market orientation while also giving attention to building internal knowledge and basic skills including R&D. Originality/value: This paper is the first to examine the mediating effect of absorptive capacity on the relationship between learning orientation, market orientation and organizational performance.

PurposeThis study aims to empirically investigate the effects of both soft and hard quality management (QM) on innovation and organizational performance. It also examines the mediating role of hard QM, administrative innovation and technical innovation on the relationship between soft QM and organizational performance in higher education (HE).Design/methodology/approachThe approach of this study is quantitative. The data used to test the hypotheses were obtained through online questionnaire sent to the academic staff of public universities in Naples (Italy). The hypothesized relationships are tested with data collected from 356 respondents by using the partial least squares structural equation modeling technique (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe results show that quality practices improve innovation and organizational performance, while innovation positively impacts organizational performance. The findings also indicate that soft QM affects organizational performance directly and indirectly through hard QM. Hard QM and innovation show a partial sequential mediating effect on soft QM-performance relationshipPractical implicationsIn order to implement quality management properly in HE, directors need to recognize the different roles that soft and hard QM can have on innovation and organizational performance. It is important that higher education institutions (HEIs) allocate resources to establish both types of QM practices to achieve the effectiveness of the whole QM system.Originality/valueDespite the existence of numerous studies on the relationship between QM, innovation and organizational performance in manufacturing and services, studies conducted in higher education are still few. This is one of the earliest studies that adopt the multidimensional approach of QM in HE which could help directors understand the interdependencies and different roles of soft and hard quality practices.

In developing countries, International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) have taken active and complementary roles in sustainable human development. Despite the role of INGOs in development, the issues of sustainability, availability of funds, and supportive leadership have remained a major challenge in developing countries. The concept of competitive advantage has been recognized as a central building block in strategic management and an important precedent to organizational performance. Competitive advantage is a deliberate effort by the organization to align its internal conditions and capabilities with changes in the external environment. This study sought to establish the mediating effect of competitive advantage on the relationship between strategic leadership and performance of international non-governmental organizations in Kenya The study was anchored on strategic leadership theory, upper echelons theory and resource-based view theories. For methodology, descriptive cross-sectional survey design covering 277 respondents was adopted. Semi structured questionnaires were used to collect data. The study findings indicated that data collection tool/questionnaire was reliable as Cronbach alpha was greater than 0.7 for all variables. The results indicated a significant mediating effect of competitive advantage on the relationship between strategic leadership and performance of international non-governmental organizations in Kenya. This means that the influence of strategic leadership on performance is indirect through competitive advantage. The study concluded that both competitive advantage and strategic leadership concurrently influence organizational performance positively. It is recommended that international non-governmental organization must be able to identify their competitive advantage. <p class="Abstract"><span lang="EN-GB">This study aims to examine the relationship between organizational culture, quality assurance, and organizational performance, and test the quality assurance can be a mediator in their relationship. The research design uses quantitative methods using a questionnaire instrument. The sample is determined based on the Slovin formula. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS). This research found that organizational culture can influence organizational performance and quality assurance. Also, quality assurance influences organizational performance positively and significantly. The mediation testing found that quality assurance can positively and significantly be a mediator in the relationship between organizational culture and organizational performance. This research indicates that the organizational culture climate has a very strategic role in driving the performance and implementation of the organization's quality assurance in higher education. </span></p>

Agility is an important ability of a company to increase a sustainable competitive advantage. This study was conducted based on the decline in batik sales in Pekalongan and the existence of a research gap on the relationship between market orientation and marketing performance. This paper aims to test empirically the mediating effect of agility on the relationship between market orientation and marketing performance</span><span lang="EN-US">. Data were collected from 190 SMEs in Pekalongan. The result shows that market orientation significantly affects agility and marketing performance, and agility significantly affects marketing performance. Furthermore, agility mediates the correlation between market orientation and marketing performance. The Marketing performance of Batik SMEs can be improved by developing market orientation and agility simultaneously. The role of market orientation in improving marketing performance will be more effective if it is done indirectly through agility.</span></p>

PurposeThis paper aims to investigate information technology capabilities (ITC)’s influence on organizational performance (OP) within the hospitality industry. Specifically, it analyzes the indirect effects of sustainability practices (SP) and service quality (SQ) on the relationship between ITC and OP. The moderating effect of top management support (TMS) is also examined.Design/methodology/approachUsing a three-wave time-lagged design, 507 UAE hotels' managers took part in the study. Hierarchical regression bootstrapping approach was used to examine the hypothesis.FindingsThis study suggests that ITC are positively related to OP. Furthermore, the study found that SP and SQ mediate the ITC-OP relationship. TMS moderates the positive relationship between ITC and OP and also moderates the relationship between SQ and OP. Additionally, TMS moderates the indirect effect of SQ on the association between ITC and OP, such that the mediating effect is stronger when TMS is at a high level.Research limitations/implicationsThe study shall assist the practitioners of the hospitality firms to focus their attention on ITC to improve SQ and hence achieve optimal performance.Originality/valueThe novelty of this research lies in the presentation of an integrated framework based on a resource-based view to solve the contemporary challenges facing hospitality firms operating in emerging markets in integrating ITC and SP for better organizational results.

PurposeFollowing the rapid expansion of data volume, velocity and variety, techniques and technologies, big data analytics have achieved substantial development and a surge of companies make investments in big data. Academics and practitioners have been considering the mechanism through which big data analytics capabilities can transform into their improved organizational performance. This paper aims to examine how big data analytics capabilities influence organizational performance through the mediating role of dual innovations.Design/methodology/approachDrawing on the resource-based view and recent literature on big data analytics, this paper aims to examine the direct effects of big data analytics capabilities (BDAC) on organizational performance, as well as the mediating role of dual innovations on the relationship between (BDAC) and organizational performance. The study extends existing research by making a distinction of BDACs' effect on their outcomes and proposing that BDACs help organizations to generate insights that can help strengthen their dual innovations, which in turn have a positive impact on organizational performance. To test our proposed research model, this study conducts empirical analysis based on questionnaire-base survey data collected from 309 respondents working in Chinese manufacturing firms.FindingsThe results support the proposed hypotheses regarding the direct and indirect effect that BDACs have on organizational performance. Specifically, this paper finds that dual innovations positively mediate BDACs' effect on organizational performance.Originality/valueThe conclusions on the relationship between big data analytics capabilities and organizational performance in previous research are controversial due to lack of theoretical foundation and empirical testing. This study resolves the issue by provides empirical analysis, which makes the research conclusions more scientific and credible. In addition, previous literature mainly focused on BDACs' direct impact on organizational performance without making a distinction of BDAC's three dimensions. This study contributes to the literature by thoroughly introducing the notions of BDAC's three core constituents and fully analyzing their relationships with organizational performance. What's more, empirical research on the mechanism of big data analytics' influence on organizational performance is still at a rudimentary stage. The authors address this critical gap by exploring the mediation of dual innovations in the relationship through survey-based research. The research conclusions of this paper provide new perspective for understanding the impact of big data analytics capabilities on organizational performance, and enrich the theoretical research connotation of big data analysis capabilities and dual innovation behavior.

Purpose This study aims to examine the extant literature to analyze the relationship between quality assurance (QA) and innovation in the higher education context. Design/methodology/approach This study selected 63 articles through a systematic literature review in Scopus and Web of Science databases and performed a descriptive and thematic synthesis-analysis on the sample. Findings The research identifies several perspectives discussed on QA systems covering experiences, criticisms and practice implications. The literature review shows there is no clear consensus on whether innovation in higher education institutions (HEIs) is fostered or hindered by QA processes. However, it seems that the likelihood of innovativeness and positive QA outcomes are directly linked to how these processes are managed in universities. Research limitations/implications This review highlights the university management concerns that emerge with QA issues as it is not yet clear to what extent innovation is actually promoted in scenarios where QA is applied. Hence, this literature review could be considered comprehensive but not exhaustive. Further studies are recommended to improve the understanding of how HEIs can both innovate and ensure quality at the same time. Originality/value The paper contributes to the existing body of knowledge by advancing the opportunities and challenges that HEIs face due to QA system features.
