A group of 116 elementary and junior high school educators were asked to list terms descriptive of children with articulatory disorders. A list of 20 terms was established and then rated for desirability-undesirability by 100 college students. A majority of the terms were negative in nature and were given undesirable ratings. The results suggest that many of the educators in the sample possess a number of negative attitudes toward children with articulatory disorders.

533 elementary and junior high school children were requested to write down a number between 0 and 9 and the name of a color. The number 7 and the color blue were by far the most frequently written ( p < .001 in both cases). These results were consistent with those obtained in an earlier study (Simon, 1971) with college students.

This study assessed knowledge possessed by male and female junior high school and college students ( N = 422) about the teratogenic effects of alcohol. Although most students were aware that alcohol is a teratogenic substance, they demonstrated little knowledge of the nature and timing of possible specific negative effects.
