Abstract This study presents a fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) analysis of the internet challenges of the internet of things (IoT) implementation of construction projects in Nigeria. The identification of the IoT challenges was carried out through a thorough literature search and discussions with 27 built environmental experts. In addition, DEMATEL, an expert judgement-based tool, was used to pick, design, and evaluate a structural model consisting of a causal relationship between defined IoT challenges. Subsequently, the fuzzy DEMATEL was deployed with a view to constructing a structural relationship between the various challenging factors by visualising the dynamic associations between them. Based on the findings of the literature survey and expert evaluation, 18 obstacles to the implementation of IoT in construction projects were classified into cause and effect classes based on their relative parameters of impact. The results suggest that 8 challenges were categorised into the cause group, while 10 were listed into the impact group. The results of this study will enable construction companies, construction industry experts, project managers in Nigeria to enhance their search to design and execute an effective and productive IoT application for their construction projects.

Exceeding the approved budget is often an integral part of the implementation of construction projects, especially those where unforeseen threats may occur. Therefore, each construction investment should contain elements of risk forecasting, mainly in terms of the cost of its implementation. Only a small number of institutions apply effective cost control methods, taking into account the specifics of a given industry. Especially small construction companies that participate in the structure of the implementation of large construction projects as subcontractors. The article presents a method by which it is possible to determine, with certain probability, the final cost of railway construction investments carried out in Poland. The method was based on a reliable database of risk factors published in sources. In this article, the main presumptions of the original method are presented, which take into account the impact of potential, previously recognized, risks specific to railway investments, and enable project managers to relate them to the conditions where the implementation of a specific object is planned. The authors assumed that such a relatively simple method, supported by a suitable computational program, would encourage teams that plan to implement railway projects to use it and increase the credibility of their schedules.

From connected fridges, cars and cities, the IoT creates opportunities in numerous domains. This chapter briefly surveys some IoT applications and the impact the IoT could have on societies. It shows how the various application of the IoT enhances the overall quality of life and reduces management and costs in various sectors.

This paper analyses the influence of the Internet of Things (IoT) on business performance guided by the following objectives; assessing the influence of the Internet of things positively on sales and marketing strategies of business; to determine the influence of the Internet of things on resources management in modern businesses and to analyze the influence of the Internet of things on business profitability. The paper conducted exploratory research to study the Impact of IoT data on Business performance was conducted. Through the literature review process recently published papers on IoT and business performance including sales and marketing strategies, resource management profitability was gathered. Research papers, Journals, Internet Sites, and books were used to collate the relevant content on the subject. The analysis conducted by this study indicated that most published studies showed that IoT has huge potential for businesses across many sectors. The data collected through the implementation of IoT provide business with opportunities of increasing efficiency which improves sales and marketing, resource management, growth potential, and profitability. This study recommends that despite the challenges in the development of IoT technologies, it’s an implementation in businesses is inevitable as they seek to increase the performance.

The stable temperature in the laboratories is the major requirement for ensuring safety at work. The changes in the temperature which are oftentimes caused by precisely unrecognized factor may provide hazardous impacts on humans who are working in such place. Similar researches were conducted; however, they did not use NodeMCU as a microcontroller and MQTT protocol. This study tried to build a real-time temperature observation system using MQTT protocol based on the Internet of Things which has a fast delivery speed message. The temperature and humidity were captured by using DHT22 sensor that were then stored in database for one month. The result showed that the temperature change of the laboratory could be rapidly detected through the tests process on a certain heat-produced device. It could be analyzed periodically using the real-time application so that the impact of temperature rise could be detected quickly.

Construction sites are renowned as the noisiest places that may cause hearing loss to workers. Lack of awareness about the level of harmful sounds causes more prevalence of hearing loss than other industries. This article intends to solve this issue by an innovative idea that is designing a wearable device called "smart helmet" (SH). The SH uses the concept of the Internet of things (IoT) for real-time monitoring workers' hearing health in construction sites. SH works online to send notifications in the presence of harmful sounds and offline due to storing data to analyse workers' health conditions. The results are divided into two sections: The first section presents the detail of the architecture, hardware and software of the SH and the second section offers a formula to convert noisy situations into allowable working time. By combining the proposed procedure and SH's prepared data, the allowable working time can be calculated for workers. The results of applying this device in practical projects show that steelworkers are more at risk than the others with exposure to 98 dB sounds.
