Abstract In this paper, we examine the role of mobility-related attitudes in the travel mode use of young people, the extent to which young adults and teenagers behave consistently in relation to their attitudes, and the conditions on which the consistency of attitudes and behaviour depends. We thus continue the current discussion about the loss of importance of the car for young people in which various socio-demographic trends, but also changed attitudes, are used as explanatory factors, especially on a hypothetical level. Our contribution closes a research gap in that so far neither the relationship between attitudes and behaviour among young people has been empirically investigated nor has this relationship been empirically placed in a context of spatial, economic and socio-demographic conditions. We address this by means of differentiated correlation analyses and the calculation of correlation differences on the basis of a nationwide German survey of young people from 2013. This enables us to demonstrate that young people basically behave consistently in line with their attitudes. However, there are significant differences which confirm that certain spatial, economic and socio-demographic conditions are essential for the implementation of attitudes into corresponding travel mode use.

The term “digital native” entered popular and academic discourse in the early 1990s to characterize young people who, having grown up surrounded by digital technology, were said to be highly technologically skilled. The premise was mobilized to criticize education for not meeting the needs of young people, thereby needing radical transformation. Despite being repeatedly discredited by empirical research and scholarly argument, the idea of the digital native has been remarkably persistent. This chapter explores the myth of the digital native and its implications for higher education. It suggests that the myth’s persistence signals a need to better understand the role of technology in young people’s lives. The chapter conceptualizes technology “practices,” considers how young adults experience technology in their college and university education, and how their practices are shaped by childhood and adolescence. The chapter closes with some propositions for educators, institutions, and researchers.

Nowadays policymakers, government agencies and educators in Poland and in many European countries emphasize the role of individual possibilities to take independent decisions regarding one’s financial resources. Consequently, the increased interest in financial education programs is observed. Moreover, the complexity of financial products further demonstrates the need for a financial knowledge when making decisions in this sphere. However, simultaneously, the common observation of numerous examples of irrelevant decision-making, consequently leading to financial (e.g. abundant debt) or professional (e.g. loss of work) problems as well as results of studies on the level of financial knowledge show that in many cases our society, most probably, does not have the indispensable level of analyzed knowledge. The article presents results of 2 studies on the relation between financial knowledge and economic decisions made by Polish young adults. The study 1 focuses on the correlation between financial knowledge and saving decisions while the study 2 financial knowledge and respondents debts. In both studies the level of financial knowledge was measured by the test relating to the current economic situation of Poland, knowledge of basic economic and financial concepts and understanding of basic market mechanisms. Specially designed questionnaires analyzed respondents’ savings (study 1) and debts (study 2) decisions. The results of those studies show that examined a group of Polish young adults has an average level of financial knowledge. Moreover, the first study found positive correlation (on the level of statistical trend) between financial knowledge and savings decisions. The results of study 2 showed the higher financial knowledge among people who took credits or loans from bank in comparison with people who take credit and loans outside the banking system. Results obtained in the studies reinforce the idea of the important role of financial education in preparing young people to make their own economic decisions. The personality of entrepreneurs can have a large influence on entrepreneurial startups. The general locus of control, which is an element of the personality of entrepreneurs, is considered to be critical for the creation of entrepreneurial startups. Despite the generally acknowledged importance of one’s locus of control for entrepreneurial intentions and new firm startups, a research gap exists because less emphasis has been given to external locus of control, in particular chance control. Chance non-control can be defined as a person’s disbelief in chance- or luck-based outcomes. In this study, a country-moderated hypothesis about the relationship between a person’s chance non-control and his or her entrepreneurship (activities or intentions) was developed and empirically tested by using data collected through a structured questionnaire from 645 students in three countries (China, Finland and Slovenia). Regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis. Based on the findings, which are partially in support of the moderated hypothesis, recommendations for research and practice are proposed. The key contribution of the study is the explanation of the role of chance non-control in entrepreneurship and the notion the relationship between chance non-control and entrepreneurship tends to be moderated depending on uncertainty avoidance.

The present study is aimed to study the moderating role of personality in the relationship between financial stress and well-being in young people in Romania. The sample consisted of 168 young people aged between 20 and 35 years old (M = 22.05, AS = 2.72), of which 116 are female (69%) and 52 male (31%). To measure the variables, we used InCharge Financial Distress/Financial Well-Being Scale, The Satisfaction with Life Scale and questionnaires of ten items each (Markers Big Five) that are part of the collection of items of the IPIP-Ro project. The results showed that only Openness to experience, as a personality factor, has a moderating effect on the relationship between financial stress and well-being. The novelty of the study consists in capturing the relationships between personality, financial stress and well-being of young people in Romania. Few Romanian studies analyzed the moderating effect of personality in the relationship between the two variables mentioned above. The present study can contribute to the development of financial education programs, the aim being to reduce financial stress and increase the well-being of young people through strategies for efficient management of personal resources

In the first part of this article, the author reflects on her experience of making filmmaking workshops with young people in Australia, China and the UK an integral component of a research project on the representation of child migrants and refugees in world cinema. She then sets her approach to these workshops in the context of Alain Bergala's ideas about film education, of which she had initially been unaware. In discussing a couple of further workshops that she ran in the UK and Australia as part of the 'Cinéma, cent ans de jeunesse' programme, she focuses particularly on the benign or obstructive role of institutional gatekeepers , who act as intermediaries or agents determining the terms of access to children and young people for film educators, researchers and practitioners. The legal, protective and ethical dimensions of the relationship between educator, gatekeeper and participating students are discussed. The article cites cases in which the interaction worked well, and others in which it proved problematic. The functions, responsibilities and potential drawbacks of gatekeepers are compared with Bergala's conception of the pedagogic role of the passeur – a figure who also holds power in relation to young people's access to film and film-making, but one that connotes positive, even magical, properties.

The article deals with the education of young people, the conditions created for their improvement, the importance of the role of the family, parents and society in the education of the young generation. It reveals the important problems of bringing up children, the conditions for the formation of the personality, the role of the educational environment. It studies the system of education and training of the young generation, as well as parents, the activities of the institute of makhalla in the national educational system. It provides guidance, advice and recommendations on parenting issues. The article covers the essence of the concept of freedom of religion and belief, the law “On freedom of religion and religious organizations”, as well as the special role of young people in society, the relationship between religion and belief, and various religions. It reveals the need to increase the responsibility of parents for bringing up children, increasing the responsibility of makhalla committees in improving their knowledge, skills and abilities in matters of birth and upbringing of children, as well as cooperation “Family – makhalla is an educational institution”. The article reveals the relationship of parents and children on the basis of national and universal values. It shows the role of education and upbringing in increasing the socio-political activity of women, as well as the huge contribution of women of our country to the spiritual and moral development of society, the well-being of our children. The article reveals the essence and significance of reforms in public education, decrees, resolutions, as well as other problems in this system and specific plans and prospects for its development. It deals with the system of effective measures for spiritual education, emphasizes the importance of further strengthening the cooperation between higher education institutions and general education schools.

Scholarship on young people’s geographical mobilities tells us that young adults move away from their childhood communities for a complex mix of economic “push-pull” reasons, including relationships, aspirations, attachments to place, identity, and belonging. In this abundant research, particularly that which focuses on youth outmigration from rural and peripheral communities, there is surprisingly little attention paid to an issue that is top-of-mind for many young adults today: personal debt. In this paper, we draw insights from extant literature on youth mobilities to make the case for a greater examination of the role of personal debt in young people’s migration decisions. We hypothesize that youth and debt increase a person’s likelihood of moving away from peripheral regions. We test this hypothesis using data from a 2019 survey of Atlantic Canadians and find some support for it, and some interesting nuance, suggesting that there is good reason to examine debt’s role in youth mobilities in greater detail.
