This paper provides an evaluation of the stranding risks of coal in Poland. Combining an industrial organization and financial analysis approach, we assess the current economic situation of companies operating within the coal industry and draft forecasts for the future. Based on the global economic outlook for coal, we claim that phasing-out coal will take at least two decades, due to the slow transformation of the energy sector and increasing energy demand. The financial evaluation of coal-dependent companies revealed sound financial conditions due to favorable trends in coal prices in international markets. Therefore, instead of prioritizing a rapid phasing-out of coal, we pledge to make more technological investments that would make burning coal less harmful for the planet and thus efficiently mitigate the negative effects of climate change.

The economic crisis in the United States and its spread to continental Europe caused a financial crisis in European stock markets, which in turn reduced production in Europe, resulting in rising unemployment, that eventually led to protests against the current economic situation. These political unrests have prompted international and regional governments and financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the European Central Bank to find a way to end this severe financial crisis. Greece, as one of the EU member states that has been affected by this global crisis, has made efforts to improve its economic situation. The main question of this study is to what extent the International Monetary Fund was able to help resolve the financial crisis in Greece? The hypothesis is that due to the conditionality of financial aid from the International Monetary Fund to Greece in crisis and Greeces lack of attention to the full implementation of austerity programs, such financial aid has not been able to save the Greece economy from financial crisis. One of the aims of this study is to what extent developing countries can rely on IMF recommendations to overcome the financial crisis. The aim of the research is to find out why International Monetary Fund could not adopt proper monetary and financial policy to settle the financial crisis in Greece. Moreover, the reasons behind failed attempts of Greeces policymakers to implement IMFs austerity measures in their country are sought.

The purpose of the work is to consider the relationship between the current economic situation and the pace of development of coronavirus infection, which has had a direct impact on various spheres of society. Doctors around the world are calling on citizens to be vaccinated, because only the formation of the so-called global immunity will allow to resist the further development of the pandemic. The situation with the wave-like development of morbidity, which causes the announcement of more and more restrictive measures and, as a result, a decrease in the economic activity of the population, also testifies in favor of universal vaccination. The prospects for future economic development at such rates of infecting the population in various countries are rather vague, so the promotion of vaccination is gaining momentum. However, the choice of a particular vaccine often becomes a difficult issue for most citizens, since all vaccines were developed in a fairly short time, their adaptation took place at an ultra-high pace, and many citizens question the side effects of vaccines. It seems to us that the problem can be solved by the common "elimination of illiteracy" in the field of vaccination against coronavirus and formation of a collective understanding of the need to join the vaccinated on the basis of explanatory work among potential patients of vaccination offices, based on scientific facts and submitted in a popular scientific form.

PurposeResearch on management education (ME) over the past 2 decades signals a growing level of concern in response to increasing societal demands for ethical, responsible and sustainable considerations in management decisions in light of the current economic situation. The purpose of this paper is to review extant literature on responsible management education (RME) over the past decade.Design/methodology/approachThe author carried out a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed publications, which were mapped and analysed according to the following six categories: (1) types of papers, (2) geographical context, (3) RME purpose, (4) strategies, (5) intended outcomes and (6) challenges. The analysis resulted in a descriptive overview of article content and synthesis of review data categorised by topical focus.FindingsAnalysis of the review sample reveals how scholarly interest in RME has accelerated over the last decade. This is accompanied by a growing institutionalisation and development of RME. The descriptive analysis indicates that the vast majority of publications focus on RME implementation strategies, mostly focussing on on-campus – curricular, pedagogical and operational – changes and the unique experiences of particular schools. Recent publications reveal interest in how RME can respond to triple bottom line (TBL) concerns that benefit the wider society and to sustainable development (SD) goals that target the local and global community. A budding interest is revealed in examining the perceptions of diverse stakeholder groups of sustainability requirements in RME curricula to create relevant and practical content.Originality/valueThis paper contributes to the adoption and/or development of RME.

Among the diverse assortment of dairy products, sour cream occupies a leading position in terms of production. Despite the current economic situation, sour cream production increased by 3.4% compared to the previous year. The lack of raw milk, as well as the increased demand for healthy food products have led to the creation of a new group of sour cream products, which are supplemented with non-dairy ingredients - fortifiers. Due to the components of plant origin, it is possible to adjust the properties of the product, to give it a functional orientation. The authors proposed a method for the production of a sour cream product with the addition of wheat flakes and peach puree. The sour cream product was produced according to the traditional technological scheme. A feature of the technology is the introduction of plant components into the fermented product. The choice of the optimal dosage of wheat flakes and peach puree was carried out in accordance with the combination of the taste of the filler and the product, the indicators of the consistency and color of the sour cream product. The optimal dosages of the introduced components have been selected experimentally. An assessment of the quality indicators of the finished product has been carried out. The water-holding capacity of samples of sour cream products has been studied. By the amount of whey, you can judge the ability of dietary fiber to swell. The smaller the volume of whey, the more the dietary fiber absorbs moisture, which has a positive effect on the shelf life of the product. The viscosity was determined on a vibration viscometer in samples of samples with an undisturbed, damaged and restored clot. It was found that the sour cream product has the best moisture-absorbing ability, a fairly thick consistency, and after mixing it well restores the structure. It has been determined that the use of plant materials has a beneficial effect on the quality of the product.

The crisis that the global economy faced in 2020 has no historical counterparts. However, this does not mean that the experience of overcoming previous economic cataclysms in the current situation is useless. History shows that a crisis can become a long stop on the path of economic development of a country or, on the contrary, give an impetus to its acceleration. Within the framework of the XXII April international academic conference of HSE University and Sberbank (Moscow, April 13—30, 2021), a roundtable was held on lessons in the field of economic, social, domestic, technological policy that can be learned from the crises of the past and are useful in the context of recovering from the current recession. The roundtable became a part of the project “The experience of overcoming the crises of the last century and its lessons for the present”, implemented by the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of HSE University in 2020—2021. Its participants were asked the following questions: which crises over the past century most resemble the current economic crisis; what lessons in the field of economic, social, domestic policy, institutional development can be learned from the crises of the past to overcome the current economic situation; can the crisis give the country an opportunity to move to a higher level of development?
