An out-of-plane permeability measurement system for on-line monitoring of textile compaction is presented. It allows accurate correlations of the measured permeability with the current fibre volume content, even when no or few pre-compaction is provided. Also the investigation of hydrodynamic compaction behaviour is possible: Therefore, novel insights on the textile behaviour during out-of-plane impregnation can be gained, which are needed for a cycle time-optimized determination of process and material parameters.
