<p><em>The study entitled "the Nonverbal communication of teachers in Transforming Pendet on Deaf Persons in State 1 for SLB Badung Regency" method used in this research is a case study that is intensively focusing to a particular object by studying as a case. This research uses qualitative analysis which is a measurement by using the method of observation and in-depth interviews.</em></p><p><em>Through quantitative approach, the data obtained from the field drawn conclusions that are specific to the impersonal. The subject is the teacher – teacher as teachers and children – child sufferers of the deaf in SLB land of Badung Regency.</em></p><p><em>This event will be based on research by the obstacles teachers guide in mentranspormasikan State in the pendet SLB 1 Badung Regency with interesting formulation issues (1) what kind of nonverbal communication in transforming pendet on deaf persons in State 1 for SLB Badung Regency (2) difficulties – the difficulty of what experienced teachers in transforming the country's pendet SLB 1 Badung Regency (3) what are the efforts of teachers in transforming the country's pendet SLB 1 Badung Regency</em></p><p><em>The theory used to dissect the formulation of a problem in this research is (1) the theory of Symbolic Interaksionisme, (2) the theory of Behavior, and (3) the communication Accommodation theory. The research results showed that the role of the teacher's Guide is helpful to form a student understand the movement of the pendet.</em></p><p><em>Confidence can already indicated with the behavior of deaf children who are able to blend in with the lingkunganya are good, and the openness of the most prominent is characterized by the behavior of children who've dared to appear on stage rendition lenggak lenggokan pendet is perfect. To instill an understanding of deaf children on the pendet needed teachers guide who are nonverbal and runs both ways meaning that the child understands what is communicated by the teacher guides and otherwise teachers understand their students so entwined good communication and in accordance with the expected.</em></p><p><em> </em></p>

This paper is mainly based on the topic of whether the theory of Communication Accommodation (CAT) is applicable in speeches and how the Empathy strategy is applied in speeches. A case study from a speech by Ambassador Cui Tiankai at the Welcome Dinner Hosted by Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin is analyzed as a sample of intercultural communication practice. The research analyzes and explores the origin of the CAT and its related theories as well as elaborates on similarity-attraction theory, social exchange theory, causal attribution, social identity theory and some major strategies such as convergence, divergence and over-convergence for the purpose of the applicability of CAT in speeches. What is more, empathy as an important strategy is illustrated in detail. After a careful analysis, it has been proved that it is effective and practical for the application of CAT in speeches. Furthermore, the application of Empathy strategy in speeches will create a rewarding outcome.

According to Communication Accommodation Theory, overaccommodation in intergenerational communication with elders is frequently based on stereotyped expectations of frailty and dependence. This study examined the role of nonverbal behaviors in such overaccommodation. Adult volunteers ( N = 120; mean age = 29 years) read either a patronizing or neutral version of one of three conversations between a nursing home resident and a nurse. As in our earlier study, the nurse's use of the patronizing conversational style was rated as less respectful, less nurturant, and more frustrating for the resident than the neutral style. The main analyses indicated that negative nonverbal behaviors were rated as significantly more likely to occur with the patronizing style while positive nonverbal behaviors were rated as significantly less likely. The negative evaluative impact of patronizing style was especially apparent for instrumental task situations with high compliance demands. The effects for conversational style were essentially replicated for a smaller sample (N = 50) of formal care providers.

Magang merupakan salah satu upaya Kementerian Perindustrian (Kemenperin)  untuk mendorong pegawainya mampu mencermati berbagai dinamika kondisi aktual dan melakukan berbagai penyesuaian untuk melakukan langkah-langkah proaktif dalam mendukung industri nasional. Perbedaan budaya pada kedua jenis instansi dapat menjadi hambatan yang menimbulkan ketidakpastian dan kecemasan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui akomodasi komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh peserta magang dan hambatan-hambatan yang dialami dalam proses akomodasi komunikasi tersebut. Studi ini menggunakan Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT) yang merujuk pada empat tahapan model Giles dan Anxiety Uncertainty Management (AUM). Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif interpretif dengan metode studi kasus, dan teknik pengumpulan data dengan wawancara mendalam. Penelitian menemukan bahwa peserta magang melakukan akomodasi kovergensi, divergensi, dan sedikit akomodasi berlebihan untuk dapat menyesuaikan komunikasi dengan pegawai PT X. Akomodasi komunikasi bertujuan untuk proses penyesuaian antarbudaya agar terbentuk saling pengertian di antara individu yang terlibat, tercipta perasaan nyaman, menurunkan hambatan komunikasi, dan mereduksi ketidakpastian dalam berinteraksi untuk mencapai komunikasi yang efektif. Internships are one of the efforts of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) to encourage employees to observe various dynamics of actual conditions and make multiple adjustments to take proactive steps to support the national industry. Cultural differences in the two types of institutions can be obstacles that cause uncertainty and anxiety. This study aims to determine the communication accommodation made by interns and the barriers experienced in the communication accommodation process. This study employed Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT) which refers to the four stages of the Giles model and Anxiety Uncertainty Management (AUM). It used is a qualitative interpretive approach with a case study method and data collection techniques with in-depth interviews. The study found that the interns accommodated convergence, divergence, and a little excessive accommodation to adjust their communication style to PT X employees. Communication accommodation aims at the intercultural adjustment process to form a mutual understanding between the individuals involved, create a feeling of comfort, lower communication barriers, and reduce uncertainty in interacting to achieve effective communication.

The relevance of language for quality healthcare delivery cannot be overemphasised. Within the framework of communication accommodation theory, this paper discusses language barriers in expatriate doctor–patient communication in three state-owned hospitals in Ghana, and the strategies employed by the medical personnel to bridge communication gaps. The study design is qualitative and the data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with 16 expatriate doctors, three nurses and three patients. Furthermore, observation of five patient–doctor interactions was undertaken and notes taken. Both datasets were then analysed using the qualitative conventional content analysis approach. The findings revealed that the expatriate doctors employed convergence strategies such as ad hoc interpreters, gestures, picture charts and electronic dictionaries to deal with language barriers. The study is expected to stimulate further research into innovative ways of dealing with language barriers in expatriate doctor–patient interactions.

The objective of this research is to explore the nature and role of analogies as objects for knowledge transfer in cross-industry collaborations. A case study of an organization seeking cross-industry innovation (CII) across two industry sectors was conducted, and the empirical data were analyzed qualitatively. We found that analogies used as knowledge mediation objects could be classified as explanatory or inventive, each expressed as linguistic or visual representations. Explanatory analogical objects help build prior knowledge of a foreign industry domain, thus easing later use of inventive analogical objects to identify how knowledge from one industry can be applied in another industry for innovation purposes. In these roles, the analogies serve as boundary objects. Both explanatory and inventive analogies can also serve as epistemic objects, motivating for further collaborative engagement. Visual representations of analogies help bridge the abstract with the concrete, thereby easing the process of creating analogies. They also enable nonverbal communication, thus helping bypass language barriers between knowledge domains. The reported research expands current research literature on knowledge mediation objects to the context of CII and provides added detailed understanding of the use of analogies in CII.

ABSTRACTSerang Regency in Banten Province is a multi-prone area of natural disaster, with the greatest potential disasters particularly like floods, landslides, earthquakes, tidal waves, tsunamis, and abrasion. At the time of the Banten tsunami at December 2018, Bulakan Village, Cinangka Subdistrict, Serang Regency was a tsunami affected area that was classified as quite severe. Natural disasters are real threats with non-military threats.The role of relevant ministries/government institutions as the main element in non-military defense also needs attention. The aim of this study is to find the root of the problems and also the solutions related to non-military defense in confronting the real threat in the form of a tsunami disaster that struck the Serang Regency. This research is using a qualitative method supported by the case-study method. All the information obtained from the defined informants was analyzed by qualitative analysis technique. This research also aims to analyze the implementation of coastal area empowerment strategies and institutional synergy mechanism implemented at Bulakan Vilage, Cinangka Subdistrict,  Serang Regency, Banten Province.The results showed that the empowerment of coastal areas in the form of institutional synergy in Serang District was carried out with a tsunami disaster management plan based on empowerment of coastal areas such as the development of coastal community disaster awareness, and compiling sustainable  plans for a tsunami disaster. Some factors that influence the implementation of the coastal areas empowering strategy in Serang Regency in facing the tsunami disaster are community supports and good communication among the stakeholders.ABSTRAK           Kabupaten Serang di Provinsi Banten merupakan wilayah multirawan bencana, dengan potensi bencana  terbesar yang meliputi banjir, tanah longsor, gempa, gelombang pasang, tsunami, dan abrasi. Pada saat tsunami yang menerjang Selat Sunda pada Desember 2018 lalu, Desa Bulakan, Kecamatan Cinangka, Kabupaten Serang merupakan daerah terdampak tsunami yang tergolong cukup parah. Bencana alam merupakan ancaman nyata berdimensi ancaman nir-militer. Peran kementerian/ lembaga pemerintah terkait sebagai unsur utama dalam pertahanan nir-militer juga perlu mendapat perhatian, sehingga ditemukan akar permasalahan dan solusi terkait pertahanan nir-militer dalam menghadapi anacaman nyata berupa bencana tsunami yang melanda wilayah Kabupaten Serang. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode kualitatif yang didukung oleh metode penelitian studi kasus. Informasi yang didapatkan dari para narasumber yang dituju selanjutnya dibahas dengan menerapkan teknik analisis kualitatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis implementasi strategi pemberdayaan wilayah pesisir dan mekanisme sinergitas kelembagaan yang dilaksanakan di wilayah Desa Bulakan, Kecamatan Cinangka, Kabupaten Serang, Provinsi Banten. Hasil dari kajian ini memperlihatkan bahwa pemberdayaan wilayah pesisir di Desa Bulakan  dalam bentuk sinergitas kelembagaan di Kabupaten Serang dilakukan dengan rencana aksi penanggulangan bencana tsunami berbasis pemberdayaan wilayah pesisir yang meliputi pembinaan kesadaran bencana masyarakat pesisir, dan menyusun rencana simulasi bencana tsunami berkelanjutan. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi terselenggaranya strategi pemberdayaan wilayah pesisir di wilayah Serang dalam menghadapi bencana tsunami adalah dukungan masyarakat dan komunikasi yang baik antara para pemangku kepentingan

Abstract Patient-perpetrated workplace violence (WPV) in healthcare is common. Although communication skills trainings are helpful, they may be strengthened by having a theoretical framework to improve replicability across contexts. This study developed and conducted an initial test of a training framed by Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT) using longitudinal mixed-methods surveys of healthcare professionals in an American primary care clinic to increase their self-efficacy, patient cooperation, and use of CAT strategies to de-escalate patient aggression. Results of the intervention indicate that the CAT training significantly increased professionals’ efficacy and reported patient cooperation over time. Findings showed that those who reported using more of the five CAT strategies also reported situations that they were able to de-escalate effectively. This initial test of a CAT training to prevent WPV demonstrates promise for the applicability of CAT strategies to de-escalate patient aggression, and the need to scale and test these trainings in settings that experience high WPV levels.
