Ajoene, a compound derived from garlic (Allium sativum L.), inhibited spore germination of some fungi, namely, Alternaria solani, Alternaria tenuissima, Alternaria triticina, Alternaria sp., Colletotrichum sp., Curvularia sp., Fusarium lini, Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium semitectum, and Fusarium udum, which cause serious diseases in some important crop plants in India. The compound was very effective in checking spore germination at a concentration of 25 μg/mL in some of the above fungi and, in most cases, there was 100% inhibition of germination at 100 μg/mL. It is quite likely that the compound may be useful in controlling disease(s) under field conditions.

A series of novel dithiocarbamate derivatives bearing amide moiety 3a-3i and 4a-4i were synthesized by a facile method, and the structures of these derivatives were confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, elemental analysis and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). Their antifungal activity against five phytopathogenic fungi were evaluated, and the results showed that most of the target compounds displayed low antifungal activity in vitro against Gibberella zeae, Cytospora sp., Collectotrichum gloeosporioides, Alternaria solani, and Fusarium solani at concentration of 100 mg/L. Compound 4f and 4g exhibited significant activity against Alternaria solani and Collectotrichum gloeosporioides, respectively.

Six metabolites (1–6), including 1 new fusaric acid derivative, designated atransfusarin (1), and 5 known compounds, (3 R,6 R)-3-benzyl-6-isopropyl-4-methylmorpholine-2,5-dione (2), daucoterol (3), adenosine (4), cerebroside B (5), and 2,3-dihydroxypropyl ( Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienate (6), were isolated from the solid culture of an endophytic Alternaria atrans MP-7, associated with the medicinal plant Psidium guajava. The structure of the new compound was elucidated by spectral data. The antifungal test indicated that (3 R,6 R)-3-benzyl-6-isopropyl-4-methylmorpholine-2,5-dione (2) showed obvious inhibitory activity against Alternaria solani, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and Phyricularia grisea. Compared to fusaric acid (1a), even though the antifungal activity of atransfusarin (1) against A. solani, C. gloeosporioides, and P. grisea was greatly decreased, its inhibitory effect against Botrytis cinerea was still retained.

The aimed of this study to evaluate the antifungal activity of essential oils of Ocimum basilicum L. on some fungi isolated from commercial rice sold in Cameroon. Fungal isolates were primarily identified based on morphological characteristics, while representative isolates were identified using PCR-based methods. Essential oils were extracted by hydro-distillation, chemical composition was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and antifungal activity against isolated fungi were assessed using the micro-atmospheric method. The percentage of frequency and abundance varied with the sample analyzed and the fungi detected. A total of 85 fungal isolates of eight genera including Aspergillus, Fusarium, Penicillium, Rhizopus, Cladosporum, Mucor Alternaria and Acremonium in decreasing order of predominance were identified. The most fungal species identified were Aspergillus flavus, A. fumgatis, A. niger, A. carbonarius, Fusarium oxysporum, F. graminarum, F. moniliforme, Penicillium citrinum, P. expansum, Rhizopus oryzea, Cladosporum sp, Mucor hiemalis, Alternaria solani, Acremonium murorum. More than 61% (A. flavus, A. niger, P. citrinum) and 44% (M. hiemalis, A. flavus, A. niger) of analyzed samples contain respectively aflatoxin B1, AFB1 (0 - 17.3 µg/kg) and ochratoxin A, OTA (0 - 5.2 µg/kg). Citrinin was not detected. The main compounds identified in O. basilicum EO are eugenol (30.6), linalool (29.5), cineole (14.4), Terpinen-4-ol (5.6), 2-norpinen (4.1), Cadinen (3.3), Limonen (2.4) and (E)-β-Ocimene (2.2). The O. basilicum EO exhibit antifungal activity with the MIC range from 750-2000 ppm. This activity varies with the strains and the concentration of EO. The increased prevalence of mycotoxigenic fungi in rice, a highly consumed food grain in Africa, poses serious health concerns to the general public. The O. basilicum EO can therefore be used as alternatives to synthetic pesticide in rice storage.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of seaweed extracted protein against the pathogenic fungi. Methods: Antifungal activity of seaweed Ulva lactuca L. extracted protein was determined against pathogenic fungi such as Alternaria solani, Aspergillus clavatus, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, and Fusarium oxysporum by disk diffusion Method. Then, the potentially active protein was determined using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. Results: Seaweeds extracted protein checked for the antifungal activity against A. clavatus, A. solani, and A. flavus better activity compared to standard amphotericin-B and CD spectroscopy. Analysis of the extracts divulges the presence of entire protein compounds. Conclusions: This study extracted seaweed protein sufficient of antifungal activity opposed to antifungal pathogens as compared with the standard. This is first report an activity of seaweed extracted protein against the plant and human pathogenic fungus bearing agricultural important.
