Fractures of the shaft humerus are one of the basic breaks influencing present age and treatment methodology must be chosen cautiously. Both the modalities of treatment for example dynamic pressure plating and interlocking nailing were utilized. Present study was quantitative approach with comparative survey design. This study was conducted in teaching hospital Karad. The sample size was 30 patients selected by non-purposive, sampling technique with fracture shaft of the humerus. Result indicated that out of these 30 patients, we had 15 in the DCP gathering and 15 in the interlocking gathering. The normal period of patients was 36.46 years with 19 guys and 11 females. The confusions were more in the interlocking gathering with the vast majority of them relating to poor shoulder work with torment. In spite of the way that the two modalities of treatment offer incredible affiliation, the pace of assistant complexities were more in the interlocking nailing gathering, which makes dynamic weight plating a continuously decent decision. In situations where both powerful pressure plating and interlocking nailing should be possible, we would want to utilize dynamic pressure plating, as the outcomes are better than interlocking nailing.

The study adopted survey design to determine the entrepreneurial skills for empowering women in cocoyam production in Abia and Imo States of Nigeria. Objectives of the study were to determine the entrepreneurship skills available that are utilized for empowering women in cocoyam production and determine the extension strategies for empowering women in cocoyam production. The hypothesis of the study states that there is no significant mean difference between the available entrepreneurship skills and strategies utilized for empowering women in cocoyam production. Questionnaire was the instrument for data collection constructed on a 4-point measuring scale which has ( as the cut of point. Instrument was validated by peer review of two experts in agricultural extension and statistics. The reliability was achieved by subjecting the data collected from pre-survey to Cronbach’s Alpha which yield a reliability co-efficient rα = 0.83 which affirmed high reliability index. Multi-stage simple probability and disproportionate sampling technique was used to select sample size of 250. In Abia, 100 women cocoyam farmers were sampled while 150 were sampled from Imo State. The instrument was administered and retrieved by the help of research assistants such as extension agents and executives of women development union in the sampled areas. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency, mean and inferential statistics as t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that entrepreneurship skills were available in empowering women with the pooled mean scores of ( for Abia and ( for Imo State. The Imo women were better than Abia cocoyam farmers. It was also indicated that strategies for empowering women cocoyam farmers were used more in Imo State with 2 than Abia State 1 . The hypothesis of no significant mean difference was not rejected because t = -0.003 at P ≥ 0.05 indicated no mean difference between the strategies utilized in Abia and Imo State for empowering women on entrepreneurship skills in cocoyam production. It was concluded that women cocoyam farmers were less empowered and had less access to land, fund and extension services in both Imo and Abia State. But the Imo cocoyam farmers were marginally better than their Abia women cocoyam farmers counterpart on the strategies used on empowering women on entrepreneurship skills in cocoyam production. It was concluded that cocoyam farmers were less empowered on entrepreneurship skills, hence, they had less access to land, fund and extension services. The study recommended that more women should be employed into the WIA arm of the ADP to enable them sufficiently empower women to get access to entrepreneurship skills such as agronomic and business skills to enhance cocoyam production.

Background: Surgical fixation of humeral shaft fractures generally involves plating or nailing. Despite the extensive literature comparing outcomes after open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) with plating and interlocking intramedullary nailing (ILIMN) for acute humeral diaphyseal fractures, the superior treatment strategy still remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to compare the functional outcome of each method of fixation (dynamic compression plating and interlocking nailing) for the shaft of humerus fracture and to analyse statistically significant difference in the results of these two methods in terms of functional outcome, rate of healing and complications.

Methods: We conducted a prospective randomized control study and evaluated the results of 50 patients having humeral shaft fracture which were internally fixed with antegrade interlocking nailing (25 patients) and dynamic compression plating (DCP) plate (25 patients). Patients were followed up on average of 11.4 months and their radiological outcomes were assessed with plain radiography and with DASH score.

Results: The plating group had statistically significant faster radiological healing and better DASH score compared to nailing group. Also, postoperative complication rate was higher in ILN group which was statistically significant.

Conclusions: ORIF with DCP provides better results in terms of good functional outcome, faster radiological union and less post-operative complications compared to ILIM nailing. Hence, we concluded that plating is a superior option than nailing.

Background: Over the last three decades the annual number of deaths among children less than 5 years of age has decreased by almost one third. However, this reduction has not been evenly distributed throughout the worldObjective: The aim of the present study was to identify the role perception of mothers and nurses in the care of hospitalized children.Method: Comparative survey design was adopted for the study. A simple random sampling technique for mothers and purposive sampling for the nurses were used in selecting the subjects. The sample comprised of 50 mothers and 50 nurses. The data was collected by using interview schedule for mothers and semi-structured questionnaire for the nurses. The data obtained was analyzed using the descriptive and inferential statistics.Result: The study results showed that, 84% of mothers strongly agreed and 56% of nurses strongly agreed, with the role of mothers in the care of hospitalized children. Regarding comparison of the role of mothers as perceived by mothers and nurses, were found positively significant. As regards to relationship between the perceptions of mothers on her role with the selected background factors, revealed that there was no significant relationship. Conclusion: Mother’s role in the care of hospitalized children is vital, as all expectations of satisfaction, trust and security of the child are vested in her. Mothers being a primary care provider of child has limited role in hospital but still can contribute in recovery of children.Health Renaissance 2015;13(2): 14-21

Background: Humeral shaft includes 1% of all fractures. The advantage of operative management is early mobilization and patients comfort. Most of the studies compare two main modalities of management, 1. dynamic compression plate 2. intramedulary interlocking nail, with respect to fracture union as major criteria. Very few studies have compared functional outcome with respect to shoulder and elbow joint. The purpose of this study is to compare the outcomes of each method of fixation. (Dynamic compression plating and interlocking nailing) for the fracture shaft of humerus and to analyse statistically significant difference in the results of these two methods.

Methods: There were 58 patients of fracture shaft humerus were enrolled during 2 May 2015 to 2 January 2017 in the study. They were randomly divided into two groups, DCP group and IMILN group, each having 29 patients and compare the functional outcome of both groups with each other.

Results: There were total 53 patients among them 26 (49.05%) treated with DCP and 27 (55.95%) treated with intramedullary interlocking nail (IMILN).The mean age of patient treated with DCP was 40.12 years (SD±8.51, Min-Max: 25-60) and treated with IMILN was 41.96 years (SD±11.04, Min-Max: 22-61). Road traffic accident was major mode of injury to shaft of humerus.
Conclusions:Dynamic compression plating is preferable technique than interlocking nailing for fracture shaft of humerus in adults.
