Students' understanding of concepts is a very important factor in the success of learning. But in reality, Indonesian students' conceptual understanding is still low. The factor of low understanding of students' concepts is because students are not actively involved in problem solving activities. Student involvement can be trained by using one of the communication tools in the form of interesting learning videos to get students' attention in learning activities. This research is a survey research as a first step in developing problem solving learning videos. The benefit of this research is to find out what students currently need in science learning and how much students need to develop problem solving based learning videos. The subjects used in this study were junior high school students with a sample size of 48 students selected based on a region. This needs analysis includes 4 indicators, namely a) analysis of learning problems; b) analysis of learners; c) analysis of objectives; d) analysis of settings. Based on the results of this study, information was obtained that the development of problem solving based learning videos was feasible to be developed as a science learning media to train students' conceptual understanding in the city of Pekanbaru

This study investigates the effects of science learning model reconstruction based on student needs, in order to generate more operational standards and teaching materials. The conceptual understanding through virtual laboratory appears minimal, based on the analysis addressing the demands of junior high school students in several locations in Papua. Hence, there is a necessity to reform the learning structure through the utilization of physics education technology (PhET). Furthermore, the model was reconstructed by the Model Education of Reconstruction with fundamental principles, including an analysis of the education needs based on PhET-Problem solving, to compose context describing energy materials and its changes. Expert validation on the accuracy of illustrations, drawings, tasks, exercises, and questions, indicates the model is eligible. The participants are 60 students control and experiment group for junior high school public 11 Jayapura. The results showed the science learning model has demonstrated increased virtual experiment abilities and conceptual understanding trought pretest and postest based N-Gain. Analysis of data based normality test and independent test (T-test), meanwhile, there is a significant differences between experimental and control group. Outcome of students' responses for a separate learning model reflected positive.

This research aimed to find the effect of inquiry-based independent worksheet toward the junior high school students' creativity, characters and concept understanding. Quasi-Experimental with a nonequivalent control group design was applied for this research. Creativity and characters data were obtained by using observation method while the concept knowledge was achieved by using test method. The result showed that the concept knowledge, creativity and character level of experiment class were higher than control class, which had confirmed through the t-test. The result of moment product correlation analysis showed that ICT gave the effect of 39.08% towards creativity level, 49.66% towards character level and 28.26% towards concept understanding in experiment class. The result showed that inquiry-based independent worksheet in science learning gave the influence towards concept understanding, creativity and character level of junior high school students. There are no reports on the advantages of an independent assignment sheet, inquiry-based learning and the use of ICT which come from different and separate researchers. Researchers had previously researched the application of science learning software development with inquiry-based cultural deviance solution to develop the character and creativity of learners.

The challenge of 21st century education is to prepare human resources who are required to have skills, one of which is problem solving. The Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model is considered effective in training problem-solving skills because it has constructivist characteristics with science learning. The purpose of this study was to analyze students' problem solving skills in the Light material through PBL learning. The research method used is quantitative with descriptive analysis. The research sample was 22 Tanah Merah Integrated Junior High School students grade IX. The data collection technique used the observation sheet of problem solving skills. The results showed that there was an increase in students' problem solving skills from the first to the third experiment. The increase with the highest percentage was in the third experiment with indicators of problem solving/ investigation by 90.9%. The average data for each problem solving indicator shows that students can understand the problem by 80.78%, collect data by 69.63%, carry out problem solving/investigation by 78.46%, and make conclusions by 66.67%. These results indicate that the Problem Based Learning model can be used as a science learning construction in improving problem solving skills.

This research was aimed at develope science learning materials using scientific approach with problem solving model on temperature and heat to complete junior high school students’ achievement in 2013’ curriculum setting that were valid, practical and effective so its are feasible to use in science learning on temperature and heat topic. This materials was developed using 4-D model that reduced into 3D (without dissemination) and tested in the seventh grade students A, B and C of SMP Negeri 5 Batang, academic year 2015/2016. The data collection technique used is the validation of the device, observation, testing, and questionnaires. Analized from knowledge students’ achievement got N-Gain average in high cathagory with average value of each class A, B, and C (0,80, 0,84, and 0, 86) the impact of learning on the three classes were tested by Anova (Analisis of varians), significance level of 0,05 Farithmetic ≤ F table meaning there is no difference in the impact of learning in three classes, a consistent value. Achievement in attitude, and skills competencies each was categorized good. The research concludes that the scientific approach to science learning with problem solving models are decent (validity, practicality, and effectiveness) are used in learning. Thus the mastery of teachers in managing learning is necessary so that the learning objectives be achieved with good and running smoothly.

Mastering of Competency in Explaining Ratio two variables and problem solving that is related to ratio two variables is very important. This competency is needed to understand Mathematics material/ subject for the next steps, and in real life, many problems that is related to ratio. The purpose of this research is to know the problems that are face by junior high school students in studying ratio in mathematics subject. This research methods uses qualitative case studying to know the student’s problem in ratio in this pandemic situation. There are 90 seventh students of junior high scholl 15 Surakarta as the subjects in this research. This instrument that is used in this research is mathematics test of ratio two variables. The test are developed from essay questions the analyze the students answer. The low capability in answering ratio two variables test is caused by the low of conceptual understanding, unaccuration in procedure and principle.
