In learning algebra, students must have understanding about algebraic symbols and the meaning of equality and inequality, these abilities can be explored in algebraic reasoning which includes skills in finding patterns, recognizing patterns, and generalizing patterns. One way that teachers can carry out in order to develop students’ algebraic reasoning is through problem solving. Problem solving used to develop students’ algebraic reasoning is algebraic problem solving. Algebraic reasoning skills and problem solving for students are influenced by the intelligence possessed by students. Gardner identifies intelligence consisting of 8 intelligences, two of which are linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligence. This study attempt to describe the algebraic reasoning profile of high school students who have linguistic intelligence and logical-mathematical intelligence in solving mathematical problems. This research uses a qualitative approach. This research was conducted in class XI-1 of SMAN 7 Surabaya in the academic year 2018/2019. The subject of this study consisted of 2 students with different types of intelligence. The results showed that each student meets algebraic reasoning indicators. Student who have linguistic intelligence write answers completely but not detailed, but when explaining what is written on the answer sheet, the student explains in detail by using her own words. While student who have logical-mathematical intelligence write answers completely and in detail, but when the student explains what is written on the answer sheet, the student explains it in her own words but not in detail.

Mathematics is or it should be about problem solving and math thinking. However, what mathematics students learn in schools is more about procedures for solving different types of math exercises and problems. In many cases, students learn by heart algorithms and words (math concepts) and use them for solving different math tasks. School math is very far from what mathematicians do and, in many cases, doesn’t motivate students for learning math. This paper presents the way we organized the assessment of the students’ skills developed through math research workshops and some of the assessment results. Even though we didn’t assess all the competences the students develop through the math research workshop, the findings show that the students certainly develop their problem-solving skills.

This study describes the profile of vocational high school students' metacognitive abilities in mathematics problem solving based on their logical thinking abilities. This research was conducted using descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach. The data was collected using a logical thinking ability test and problem-solving test and. Three students were selected who met different logical thinking stages: the abstract operation stage, the transition stage, and the concrete operational stage. The results showed the subject of the abstract operation stage fulfilled the metacognition stage by re-describing the given problem, knowing the relationship between what was known and what was asked, working on the problem by writing down what was known and asked and entering into the formula and also checking the answer. Transition stage subjects fulfill the metacognition stage by describing initial information and instructions, performing problem-solving steps, and counting to check completed work. The subject of concrete operations fulfills the metacognition stage by stating information and instructions that are non-specific and detailed. The subject has not been able to state the proper steps to ensure the information's conformity with the problem, and the subject sees what is done by calculating.
