The current work aims to analyze how the RYC food company has interacted during the last few years, in the food manufacturing industry and see what improvements can be implemented within it to further improve. To seek greater growth and to have a strength could be to innovate products to remain in force in the market, observer for strategic alliances with other leaders of the sector where they perform and thus be able to reach new markets where they are not yet so involved, where we will use a descriptive method in the study of this particular case. Obtaining results where it indicates the real capacities of a Mexican company with strength

The risk of insolvency is related to failure or business closure, for this reason the analysis and management of this type of risk is important. The insolvency risk was applied to the food manufacturing industry in Cuenca in the period 2013-2017, which allowed to determine the bankruptcy risk existing in the companies analyzed, as well as trends of the indicator in relation to the business size. Two models were applied: the business insolvency prediction model of Altman and the logistic model using the maximum likelihood method proposed by Ohlson. Altman’s model showed that companies in the 5 years analyzed are in “Safe Zone” (3,187 points in 2013 and 3,448 in 2017). Similarly, the Ohlson model, showed that in 2013 there was a 20,7% risk of insolvency in the sector, compared to 17,7% in 2017. The results of the analysis indicate that insolvency risk shows a decreasing trend in the analyzed period, which take us to the conclusion that the sector is financially healthy. However, due to the current changing environment and the internal operative management, it is very likely that the values suffer changes. Analyzing the risk of insolvency is fundamental for companies, considering that it will allow them to know the level of bankruptcy risk they have, and based on this, take measures to reduce the risk. Key words: Altman model; food sector in Cuenca;  insolvency risk; Ohlson model.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to sketch a comparative account of NPD approaches between registered New Zealand food companies that are doing some sort of functional foods (FF) development (Group 1) and those that are not (Group 2); to generate a better understanding of differences and commonalities in their NPD approaches from resource-based view of competitive advantage. Design/methodology/approach – This paper opted an exploratory approach using a quantitative survey across food manufacturing companies in New Zealand. The primary foci of this empirical investigation were: orientation towards the NPD, innovation processes, collaborative NPD links and routes to commercialisation. Findings – The results (based on a 22 per cent response rate) show a significant difference (p<0.05) in the aims and mode of NPD between Groups 1 and 2. Further it was observed that food companies in Group 1 have significantly (p<0.05) more diverse external collaborations with broader aims to collaborate, in comparison with food companies in Group 2. Research limitations/implications – This study was conducted in New Zealand and thus generalisability of the findings may have to be interpreted carefully. Practical implications – The traditional NPD approach (independent and closed NPD), with loose intellectual property protection practices, dominates the food manufacturing industry in New Zealand. Research-oriented collaborations need to be strengthened in their scope and content to develop the innovative capabilities and capacities of small and medium enterprises (SME's) within future value-added food productions. Originality/value – This research provides the comparative narration of innovation process of food manufacturing companies with reference to FFs development.

NC machines are more and more widely used in manufacturing industry. As the key equipments in the factory, NC machines should be closely monitored to avoid faults. Therefore, the research on multi-function diagnosis based on BP-SOM is discussed for NC machine in the paper. Taking the precision data as the basic data for diagnosis, the research used BP and SOM algorithms to build up diagnosis models. As a result, the research has accomplished the diagnosing process and acquires good simulation output, which resembles with the real fact.

AbstractA testbed was developed aiming to contribute to further knowledge on what is required from a VR application in order to be useful for planning of assembly tasks. In a pilot study the testbed was tested on students. The focus of the study was to explore the users’ behaviour, and to gain a better understanding of their experience using VR. The students experienced a gap between the real world and VR, which confirms theories that VR is not a copy or twin of an object or environment.

The topic of this paper represents our research in the process of creating a virtual model (digital twin) for a fast-food company production chain starting with the moment when a customer launches an order, following with the processing of that order, until the customer receives it. The model will describe elements that are included in this process such as equipment, human resources and the necessary space that is needed to host this layout. The virtual model created in a simulation platform will be a replicate of a real fast-food company, thus helping us observe the real time dynamic of this production system. Using WITNESS HORIZON 23 we will construct the model of the layout based on real time data received from the fast-food company. This digital twin will be used to manage the production chain material flow, evaluating the performance of the system architecture in various scenarios. In order to obtain a diagnosis of the system’s performance we will simulate the workflow running through preliminary architecture in compliance with the real time behaviour to identify the bottlenecks and blockages in the flow trajectory. In the end we will propose two different optimised architectures for the fast-food company production chain.

The research adopts multi-criterion analysis to face cross-strait cooperative and competitive (co-opetitive) strategies problem in the crystalline silicon solar cell industry between Taiwan and China. The analysis framework is based on the national competitiveness. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach and TOPSIS analysis are applied to analyze firm-level data, gathered from the solar cell companies across the Taiwan Strait. For the Taiwanese firms, their relative national competitiveness lies in technology development, domestic market, international competition in related industries, and subsidy policy. For the Chinese firms, domestic market, procurement conditions, customization, intellectual resources, risk capital, and human quality are found to be their competitive advantages. Both China and Taiwan have entered into the emerging solar cell industry, with an aim to climb beyond the ladder of catch up. The results have shown that Taiwan and China can explore the possibility of forging strategic alliances by exploiting national competitiveness on the demand side. Above all, the paper has managed to spotlight demand conditions as the crucial factors for China and Taiwan to enhance their international competitiveness in the emerging solar cell industry.
