The aims of the research is determine the Product Preservation Design of Vegetable and Animal Food Processing. Packaging designed to preserve food components in the hands of customers while preventing contamination by bacteria and fungus is the goal. As long as food is stored properly, the quality of the food will deteriorate. Packaging is necessary in order to deliver the following information: Package must convey an accurate representation of its contents; it should neither be copied from other parties' packaging designs, nor should it be too complex, making it prohibitively costly to produce

The demand for animal food product in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY), the Special Region in Java, over the last ten years has shown a significant increase. This is in line with the increase in the population of DIY and also the increase in the income per capita of the people in DIY in meeting the adequacy of food sources of higher quality protein. One of the requests for animal food products other than meat is milk. The milk that is currently starting to develop apart from cow's milk is goat's milk, especially the type of goat's milk from Etawa Crossbreed (PE). This paper is the result of a research that aimed at analyzing the factors that influence the development of PE goat milk business in DIY, viewed from the supply and demand side. The analytical method used is descriptive with a simultaneous equation modeling approach. The results showed that simultaneously the variables of the population of PE goats, the amount of milk production of PE goats, the amount of milk production of PE goats in the year prior had an effect on the supply side. Meanwhile, on the demand side, simultaneously, the factors that influence the demand for PE goat milk are the population of DIY, income per capita, the price of PE goat milk and consumption of PE goat milk in the year prior. The study on the development of PE goat's milk business was carried out with a simple descriptive analysis showing that in the future the demand for PE goat's milk will increase, it is necessary to make efforts to strengthen the potential of PE goat's milk in DIY, especially in terms of milk products processing business and their derivative products. It is hoped that in the future PE goat's milk can play more role as a substitute product for cow's milk in DIY.

Abstract Sarcopenia is a core contributor to several health consequences, including falls, fractures, physical limitations, and disability. The pathophysiological processes of sarcopenia may be counteracted with the proper diet, delaying sarcopenia onset. Dietary pattern analysis is a whole diet approach used to investigate the relationship between diet and sarcopenia. Here we aimed to investigate this relationship in an elderly Chinese population. A cross-sectional study with 2,423 participants aged more than 60 years was performed. Sarcopenia was defined based on the guidelines of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia, composed of low muscle mass plus low grip strength and/or low gait speed. Dietary data were collected using a food-frequency questionnaire that included questions on 100 food items along with their specified serving sizes. Three dietary patterns were derived by factor analysis: sweet pattern; vegetable pattern; animal food pattern. The prevalence of sarcopenia was 16.1%. The higher vegetable pattern score and animal food pattern score were related to lower prevalence of sarcopenia (Ptrend =0.006 and Ptrend <0.001, respectively); the multivariate-adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence interval) of the prevalence of sarcopenia in the highest versus lowest quartiles were 0.54 (0.34, 0.86) and 0.50 (0.33, 0.74), separately. The sweet pattern score was not significantly related to the prevalence of sarcopenia. The present study showed that vegetable pattern and animal food pattern were related to a lower prevalence of sarcopenia in Chinese older adults. Further studies are required to clarify these findings.

Abstract Purpose Dietary intake and patients’ quality of life (QoL) are important supportive care issues in breast cancer survivorship. This study aimed to identify dietary pattern before and after breast cancer diagnosis. In addition, the association between dietary patterns and QoL were cross-sectionally and longitudinally investigated. Methods A breast cancer cohort which included 1462 Chinese women were longitudinally interviewed at four time-points, namely baseline, 18-, 36-, and 60 months after diagnosis. At each follow-up, validated food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) were used to assess patients’ dietary intake, and factor analysis was used to derive dietary patterns. European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) were used to measure QoL at each follow-up. This study included 1368, 1226, 1079 and 1095 patients with invasive disease who completed assessment at baseline, 18-, 36- and 60-month follow-up and had detailed data of dietary intake and QoL. Results Based on data obtained at 18-month follow-up, two major dietary patterns were identified: “grain and animal food pattern” and “vegetables and fruits pattern”. Similar dietary patterns were obtained at baseline, 36- and 60- month follow-up. Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) were used to analyze the longitudinal associations between dietary patterns and QoL over the four follow-ups. High intake of grain and animal food was inversely associated with scores for role functioning (B = − 0.744; 95%CI − 0.147 to − 0.017), dyspnea (B = − 0.092; 95%CI − 0.092 to − 0.092) and constipation (B = − 1.355; 95%CI − 2.174 to − 0.536). Vegetables and fruits intake were positively associated with scores for global health status/QoL (B = 1.282; 95%CI 0.545–2.019), physical functioning (B = 0.545; 95%CI: 0.037–1.053), emotional functioning (B = 1.426; 95%CI 0.653–2.200) and cognitive functioning (B = 0.822; 95%CI 0.007–1.637), while inversely associated with scores for nausea and vomiting (B = − 0.382; 95%CI − 0.694 to − 0.071), dyspnea (B = − 0.570; 95%CI − 0.570 to − 0.570), insomnia (B = − 1.412; 95%CI − 2.647 to − 0.177), loss of appetite (B = − 0.722; 95%CI − 1.311 to − 0.132), constipation (B = − 2.028; 95%CI − 2.775 to − 1.281) and diarrhea (B = − 0.929; 95%CI − 1.481 to − 0.377). Conclusion This study suggested that high adherence to “grain and animal food pattern” or “vegetables and fruits pattern” was significantly associated with several aspects of QoL. For instance, vegetables and fruits pattern appears to have beneficial effect on global health status/QoL among Chinese breast cancer patients. Prospective follow-up data could further confirm whether a specific dietary pattern has impact on cancer outcomes.

Abstract The food spectrum and trophic and length–weight characteristics of an invasive species, South American suckermouth armored catfishes Pterygoplichthys spp. (Loricariidae), from lotic and lentic inland waters of Vietnam have been studied. It is found that the diet of suckermouth armored catfishes consists of plant and animal food, as well as organic detritus. According to the predominant type and pattern of feeding, suckermouth armored catfishes can be classified as detritivore gatherers (janitor). Some specimens of catfish with a high consumption of animal food have been identified. It is noted that invasive suckermouth armored catfishes can be a significant food competitor for aboriginal fish species; detritivores; and, possibly, benthophages in the lotic and lentic inland waters of Vietnam.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how farm animal welfare (FAW) is internalised in consumers' purchasing decisions at the point of purchase. The study is based on means-end chain theory and the laddering interview technique to elicit respondents' mental representation of attributes, consequences and values of an animal food product. Respondents were approached and interviewed at the point of purchase in two supermarkets in Uppsala, Sweden. A summary representation of respondents' mental representation of attributes, consequences and values of an animal food product (pork fillet) was created. The findings indicate that FAW is the most salient means-end-chain element. FAW enters respondents' mental representation of pork fillet at the point of purchase as a consequence of other elements. FAW is considered to lead to values of hedonism and universalism type. This study contributes to the literature by detailing how animal welfare can be embedded in consumers' mental representation of cause and effect of animal food product attributes at the point of purchase. The findings are useful practically for policy-makers and for agri-business and other actors in the food value chain who would like to promote enhanced FAW. The findings also provide insight into how FAW can be promoted through market-based solutions.
