The following article analyzes the principal factors that have an impact in the adoption of new telecom convergent services, through electronic commerce, that have been explored and studied primarily in developed markets such as the United States and that have been deemed as critical factors in the development and growth of online electronic transactions. Specifically, factors and latent variables of this study derive from the models of Technology Acceptance (Davis, 1989) and Diffusion of Innovations (Rogers, 2003). A summary of past empirical studies is provided deriving from the aforementioned theoretical models followed by results of an exploratory field study comprising of 253 valid observations randomly selected from within the population of urban internet users in Mexico. The methodology used to determine the causal relationship between variables (Betas) was factor analysis (Principal Components) and structural equation modeling, specifically Smart-PLS. The study determined that perceived utility and trust variables are statistically relevant and significant in determining purchase online of new telecom convergent services and the development of electronic commerce in the Mexican Market.Palabras clave: Aceptación de la tecnología, comercio electrónico, difusión de las innovaciones, ecuaciones estructurales, Smart-PLS.Resumen. Este artículo analiza los principales factores que influyen en la adopción de los nuevos servicios convergentes de telecomunicaciones, a traves del comercio electrónico, que han sido explorados y estudiados principalmente en mercados desarrollados como el de Estados Unidos y que han sido confirmados como factores críticos en el desarrollo y el crecimiento de las transacciones electrónicas en linea. Específicamente, los factores y variables latentes en este estudio se derivan de los modelos de Aceptación de la Tecnología (Davis, 1989) y la Difusión de las Innovaciones (Rogers, 2003). Se presenta un resumen de los antecedentes de estudios empíricos derivados de los mencionados modelos teóricos, seguido de los resultados de un estudio exploratorio de campo que comprende 253 observaciones válidas seleccionadas en forma aleatoria dentro de la población de usuarios urbanos de Internet en México. La metodología utilizada para determinar las relaciones causales entre las variables (Betas) fue análisis factorial (Componentes Principales) y el modelo de ecuaciones estructurales, específicamente Smart-PLS. El estudio determina que las variables percepción de utilidad y confianza son estadísticamente relevantes y significativas en la determinación de compra en línea de nuevos servicios convergentes de telecomunicaciones y en el desarrollo del comercio electrónico en el Mercado Mexicano.

Purpose Most empirical balanced scorecard (BSC) studies have shown a tendency to wrongly employ reflective indicators instead of the more theoretically suitable formative indicators. However, formative indicators are difficult to apply due to the lack of statistical software support and a standardized model testing method. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach This study empirically compares the reflective and formative measurement method with standardized model comparison criteria. After collecting 217 valid questionnaires from companies in South Korea, the authors applied a structural equation modeling technique to analyze the data. Findings The result shows that the formative measure provides greater validity for the corporate performance measurement using BSC. Further, this study shows the indicators’ relative influence on each BSC perspectives using the formative measure. Practical implications This study proved the usefulness of the formative measure analysis method and suggested its practical use, focusing on the indicators most useful in developing corporate strategies. In addition, the authors showed that formative indicators could be used in the corporate environment by overcoming the limitations of conventional studies that were confined to causal relationships with latent variables. Originality/value This study may be the pioneering work that compares formative and reflective indicators simultaneously, addressing the usefulness of formative measurement and its application validity in the existing empirical studies using reflective measurements.

Mobile banking penetration has been relatively low even though smartphones are the most dominant forms of mobile computing in the United States. This quantitative correlational study is focused on how consumers ‘perceptions affect their intention to use mobile banking in the United States. Among U.S. consumers with smartphones, Internet access, and a bank account; 68% used Internet, 33% used telephone-based banking, and only 21% engaged in some type of mobile banking activities in 2011. The web-based survey used in this study was derived from the technology acceptance model extended by the innovation diffusion theory. Data were collected by e-mail from a random sample of 398 people in the United States. The structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was used to analyze data. The results indicated that, perceived compatibility, credibility, and costs were the significant predictors of mobile banking adoption in the United States.

The COVID-19 health and economic crisis has affected all areas of social life globally, including the economy. The world economy has declined due to purchasing power for individuals who have been forced to stay at home and cannot perform work. These restrictions to prevent the spread of SARS-Cov-2 have led to an increase in electronic commerce and mobile commerce as tools for procuring goods and services. In this paper, we conducted a longitudinal analysis of mobile commerce as an essential electronic commerce component, establishing the main drivers of mobile commerce and the intensity of their influences. The research focuses on mobile commerce in the United States (U.S.). It covers the period 2010–2020, the last year of this period capturing the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on electronic commerce (e-commerce) and mobile commerce (m-commerce). In the macroeconomic analysis of competitiveness, we established the main drivers of m-commerce, using artificial neural networks and the mediation effects found between the variables that describe m-commerce, e-commerce, and total sales, using structural equation modeling. The research results indicate an increase in the share of e-commerce in total sales and a predominance of the m-commerce share in e-commerce on the background of traffic restrictions and social distance rules imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Stakeholders in the m-commerce area should consider the following enhancing drivers: increasing internet speed, expanding 5G and Wi-Fi networks, and increasing accessibility and trust in mobile devices and applications.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to introduce the importance-performance map analysis (IPMA) and explain how to use it in the context of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). A case study, drawing on the IPMA module implemented in the SmartPLS 3 software, illustrates the results generation and interpretation. Design/methodology/approach The explications first address the principles of the IPMA and introduce a systematic procedure for its use, followed by a detailed discussion of each step. Finally, a case study on the use of technology shows how to apply the IPMA in empirical PLS-SEM studies. Findings The IPMA gives researchers the opportunity to enrich their PLS-SEM analysis and, thereby, gain additional results and findings. More specifically, instead of only analyzing the path coefficients (i.e. the importance dimension), the IPMA also considers the average value of the latent variables and their indicators (i.e. performance dimension). Research limitations/implications An IPMA is tied to certain requirements, which relate to the measurement scales, variable coding, and indicator weights estimates. Moreover, the IPMA presumes linear relationships. This research does not address the computation and interpretation of non-linear dependencies. Practical implications The IPMA is particularly useful for generating additional findings and conclusions by combining the analysis of the importance and performance dimensions in practical PLS-SEM applications. Thereby, the IPMA allows for prioritizing constructs to improve a certain target construct. Expanding the analysis to the indicator level facilitates identifying the most important areas of specific actions. These results are, for example, particularly important in practical studies identifying the differing impacts that certain construct dimensions have on phenomena such as technology acceptance, corporate reputation, or customer satisfaction. Originality/value This paper is the first to offer researchers a tutorial and annotated example of an IPMA. Based on a state-of-the-art review of the technique and a detailed explanation of the method, this paper introduces a systematic procedure for running an IPMA. A case study illustrates the analysis, using the SmartPLS 3 software.

In recent years, building information modeling (BIM) has been receiving growing interest from the construction industry of China. Nevertheless, although BIM has many foreseeable advantages, many studies claimed that these advantages have not been sufficiently achieved in practice at the current stage. In this circumstance, it is interesting to investigate what really drives the adoption of BIM. Based on Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior (TPB), a hypothetical model which involves nine latent variables is initially established. Then, a questionnaire is designed and distributed to the construction professionals in the Chinese context. After reliability and validity analysis, the goodness-of-fit of the initial model and the related theoretical assumptions are tested through structural equation modeling (SEM). Based on the modification indicators, a modified model is finally derived. Results show that economic viability and governmental supervision are the most critical factors that influence construction professionals’ BIM adoption behavior in China, sharing weights of 0.37 and 0.34, respectively, whereas other factors play limited roles in this regard. The research findings revealed from this study can provide insightful references for countries that intend to promote BIM adoption in a similar circumstance.

E-commerce refers to business transactions using digital networks such as the internet. Based on the rank on the Appstore and Playstore, Shopee places the first rank. In 2019, Shopee had 56 million visitors. Meanwhile, in the same year, it had 3,225 workers. The imbalance between the number of Shopee visitors and Shopee employees allows users to be disappointed with Shopee's services, but on the other hand, there are also many users who are happy with its services. With both positive and negative responses to the services provided by Shopee, this study analyzes the factors affecting the acceptance of Shopee Apps on students of Universitas Diponegoro Semarang. The analysis was based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). It used the Structural Equation Modeling with the Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) approach. The study used primary data obtained by distributing questionnaires to students of Universitas Diponegoro. The result showed 28 valid indicators, 5 deal inner models, and 8 significant pathways. All the causality between latent variables contained in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) have a positive and significant effect, it's just that the results of integrating trust variables on TAM, namely the latent variable between trust and interest in usage behavior, have no significant effect.

Various studies were conducted to reveal two important and interesting things from employees, namely employee engagement and employee performance. This study aims to observe the effect of using WhatsApp among employees on employee engagement and employee performance. Two main variables of the Technology Acceptance Model theory, namely perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are used as independent latent variables on employee engagement and employee performance which are the dependent variables. The respondents used in this study are 142 peoples, all of whom are the employees at state universities in Lampung. Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis are used to examine the structure model and the influence between latent variables and to test the hypothesis. The validity and reliability tests show valid and reliable results. The results show that in the use of WhatsApp, perceived ease of use is an important variable and is statistically proven to significantly affect employee engagement and employee performance. Meanwhile, the two TAM variables have also been shown to have a significant effect on employee engagement.

Abstract This study examined the mediating effects of facilitating conditions (FC) on the association between types of social support providers and attitude toward using gerontechnology (AUG) or between types of social support and AUG. The sample was 256 older Koreans having a partner and children (N=256; 66-88 years old; M=69.91; SD=4.19). The dependent variable was AUG in terms of an exoskeleton robot for exercise. There were two kinds of independent variables: 1) four types of social support provider (spouse, children, siblings/relatives, and friends/neighbors), and 2) four types of social support (emotional, instrumental, physical, and financial support). Mediating variable was calculated as the mean of FC from five questions. There were two analytic steps: 1) structural equation modeling with four latent variables about types of social support provider, and 2) path analysis with four types of social support if only for significant providers at the first analysis. The results from the first step of analysis showed that only social support from spouses had a significant effect on AUG via FC to use gerontechnology. In the second step of analysis, emotional support from spouses was associated with the higher level of AUG via FC to use gerontechnology. The findings could shed light on the salience of emotional support from spouses in terms of the positive attitude on technology usage in later life through enhancing FC for technology acceptance.

Voice recognition technology-enabled devices possess extraordinary growth potential, yet some research indicates that organizations and consumers are resisting their adoption. This study investigates the implementation of a voice recognition device in the United States Navy. Grounded in the social psychology and information systems literature, the researchers adapted instruments and developed a tool to explain technology adoption in this environment. Using factor analysis and structural equation modeling, analysis of data from the 270 participants explained almost 90% of the variance in the model. This research adapts the technology acceptance model by adding elements of the theory of planned behavior, providing researchers and practitioners with a valuable instrument to predict technology adoption.
