To improve the reading abilities of students in sixth grade several pilot projects have used national, regional and local competition to prove that reading is cool. The aim is to create role models of reading instead of book droppers. This paper describes two of these projects: “The national championship of reading” and “Ready, set, answer”. “The national championship of reading” is inspired by a similar Dutch project. The aim of the competition is to make it prestigious to read and be good at reading aloud. “Ready, set, answer” is a quiz, which is build around all kinds of reading. The study aimed at determining the reading difficulties of sixth grade students in Hafr Al-Batin governorate and identifying the effect of using the strategy of peers teaching in the treatment of reading difficulties. The semi-experimental method was used to suit the study objectives. (245) students during the second semester of the academic year 1434/1435 H. The researcher used a test to measure difficulties in reading aloud, a guide for the teacher and learner, and Stkhaddmt arithmetic averages, standard deviations, and stability coefficient alpha Cronbach, and Pearson correlation coefficient, as well as the accompanying analysis of variance (ANCOVA) in the statistical treatments. The results revealed that there was a statistically significant effect at the level of (α 0.05)) for the use of the strategy of teaching peers in the treatment of the difficulties of verbal reading of the recognition and pronunciation and reading speed between the experimental and control groups in the sixth grade pupils. The experimental average was 83.33, the control group average was only 57.64, the difference was statistically significant for the pilot, and the test result for both groups was in the tribal test; in all the verbal reading skills measured by the test 45.37). The most difficult reading skills were found to be the difficulty of pronunciation. The ability of reading speed was the second in terms of difficulty with an arithmetic mean (45.85) , With an average of (53.67). The study recommended a number of recommendations, including attention to the use of effective strategies such as peer education strategy to address the difficulties of reading aloud, especially for the primary stage and its use in treatment plans to address the difficulties of reading aloud and the inclusion of in-service training programs for Arabic teachers on practical topics of the strategy of peers teaching.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore how a student-centered curriculum engaged participants in critical analysis of the “female ideal” and to identify perceived barriers to physical activity. Method: Participants were nine fifth and sixth grade Hispanic/Latina or mixed race girls, and two researchers at an urban elementary school in Southern California. Participants met one to two times per week in an after-school program. Data sources included researcher and participant journals, field notes, and semistructured interviews. Trustworthiness and credibility were established through prolonged engagement, member checks, and peer reviewer. Results: Two themes permeated the data. The first theme involved boys acting as a barrier to physical activity. The second theme involved alignment with the ideal female body. Discussion: This study highlights how boys still act as barriers to girls’ physical activity in many school settings, but also identifies how role models for girls have increased girls’ ability to critically examine media messages.

AbstractThe text below shows the analysis of the production process and textual revision on-screen that perform two sixth-grade students from a rural elementary school located in Veracruz. It has used the microgenetic approach as a tool for analyzing the interactions generated among the participants during the writing task. The results allow us to understand the writer’s difficulties in writing and revising their own texts to those who begin their path as users of the written language. These writers need to make several texts reviews, to interact with pairs and adults, and also the reading aloud (own or others) to make the corrections. Besides, this article presents some of the elementary school teacher’s complications that can be involved in the process. The function as partners of this process requires the use of didactic, linguistic and psychological tools to create ways to intervention adjusted to the student´s needs.Recibido: 08 de mayo de 2014Aceptado: 21 de noviembre de 2014

According to the twenty-first century skills framework and the outcomes of the School on the Cloud European Network, education engages new dynamic learning environments with the use of Web2.0 tools and Cloud Computing. This chapter presents the implementation of a story mapping project in geography classes during the last year of Primary School. Sixth grade pupils worked in groups and created an online map with ArcGIS Online of the major straits and seas of the world. They selected a web mapping application and created a map journal embedding presentations with narrative texts and images. The purpose of the project was the development of map reading abilities and spatial thinking and the creation of content selecting appropriate web tools. The strong engagement of pupils in the project and the produced maps indicate that online story mapping is a useful tool in geography education that combines and promotes spatial and digital literacy.
