This paper reports on some of the findings of a large research project undertaken in 2002-2003 in Ohio, USA. The findings of this study are numerous, and this paper specifically focuses on some of the 10,316 stories told by 13,123 students in relation to reading. The findings present a multi-faceted picture of the school library's role in the fostering of reading literacy. The study raises some significant challenges for all school librarians, and provides an invitation to reflect on, critique and re-engineer services to ensure the library's role in reading literacy development is a powerful and visible one.

Our own prior research has demonstrated that respect for disapproved others predicts and might foster tolerance toward them. This means that without giving up their disapproval of others’ way of life, people can tolerate others when they respect them as equals (outgroup respect–tolerance hypothesis). Still, there was considerable variation in the study features. Moreover, the studies are part of a larger research project that affords many additional tests of our hypothesis. To achieve integration along with a more robust understanding of the relation between respect and tolerance, we (re)analyzed all existing data from this project, and we synthesized the results with the help of meta-analytic techniques. The average standardized regression coefficient, which describes the relationship between respect and tolerance, was 0.25 (95% confidence interval [CI] = [0.16, 0.34]). In addition to this overall confirmation of our hypothesis, the size of this coefficient varied with a number of variables. It was larger for numerical majorities than for minorities, smaller for high-status than for low-status groups, and larger for religious than for life-style groups. These findings should inspire further theory development and spur growth in the social-psychological literature on tolerance.

The social integration of refugees and other immigrants depends on the development of their chances of participating in society and on making them more proficient in doing so, a strategy which requires the corresponding alignment and coordination of local social services. This handbook practically uses the results of a large research project. It shows how to build up networks of professionals and volunteers and to establish case management as a concept and method in order to coordinate individually oriented services. The handbook presents a theoretical foundation, but also practical concepts and useful instruments with which to implement them. It will appeal to those who work in the context of local social and migration policy, as well as academics and teachers in the field of social sciences.

The understanding of the concept Aurah has currently seen an ascending growth among Muslim women. The question is, how far is the understanding of the concept to be accustomized with daily clothing such as telekung (cloak for Muslim women). The design of telekung is mandated by the Islamic Dress Code Ethics which is stated in the al-Quran. This paper discusses both, relative topic of interests that touches the essential concepts and the latest trend in telekung industry in Malaysia that unleashes a rather bewildering new contemporary threshold in the local Muslim fashion universe. Telekung is a Malay word that refers to the types of clothes worn by Muslim women during prayer to cover aurah – it covers the whole body except face. The research project explores multifacets angles of imperatives associated with the subject such as background, history and the development of telekung. The research also touches on the current issue related to the term contemporary being tagged to muslimah fashion. With the confusion rippled from the insignificant branding being labelled on the subject, now many consumers have been deceived by the misconception of a so called contemporary telekung. Many perceive or even worse marketed to believe that contemporary telekung has to be stupendously attractive, fashionable and trendy. Many does not know wearing this types of telekung defeats the fundamental purpose of the making and wearing of the telekung. The rippling confusion has created an immense stir of echoes among Muslim wear designer and consumer at large. Research will touch on this conflicting subject. Research also provides side notes on the aspect of sunnah and the concept of makruh of wearing telekung. This should be relative aid to suggest possible solution to the above indecisive polemic.

In principle, at least, there is not much difference between managing a large research project and managing an anthropology department. If computers can be used to reduce the amount of time needed to manage, then there will be more time for research. Here is an account of the "computerization" of the Anthropology Department at Florida by its chairman, H. Russell Bernard.

Rural lordship is one of the classic medieval themes of recent decades, but its specific developments of the late Middle Ages have long been neglected by research, especially engaged in considering other processes in these centuries, such as the construction of regional states, the economic dynamics, the urban riots. This volume, as part of a large research project coordinated by Sandro Carocci, intends to help fill this gap by offering a wide sample of cases, relating to very different areas of the Italian peninsula. Local realities are investigated here from a very specific perspective, that is, in their strictly political dimension: while taking into account the broad contexts (economic, settlement and social) in which the rural lordships are located, the main questions of this volume focus on forms of the lordly domain and its relations with the subjects, with the regional states and with the other lordly powers.
