The Indonesian government's efforts to eradicate illiteracy deserve appreciation, but this has not been accompanied by successful efforts in building a reading culture in the community. This is in accordance with various world surveys that note the low level of literacy in Indonesia. There are several studies through quantitative studies on interest and fondness for reading in various provinces in Indonesia, and this can be used as comparison material. One of the comprehensive studies conducted by the Center for Policy Research on Education and Culture, Research and Development Agency, Ministry of Education and Culture released the Reading Literacy Activity Index (Alibaca Index) in 34 provinces in Indonesia. Seeing this data, what becomes interesting to study later is whether the reading literacy level has a correlation with the student's academic achievement variable. This is important because in the end the school/madrasah literacy movement is aimed at achieving the highest level that goes beyond the level of habituation and development, namely the level of learning. This study aims to answer the questions, 1) Is there a significant positive correlation between students' reading literacy levels and academic achievement, in 34 provinces in Indonesia? and 2) What strategies should schools/madrasahs do to increase students' reading literacy levels and at the same time increase the achievement of academic achievement? This study uses a descriptive correlational approach by collecting data through the study of documentation and interviews. The results showed that the correlation between reading activity index and academic achievement (r) was 0.766. There are several innovation ideas also described qualitatively as a result of interviews.

Abstract Within the solution of the project APVV-17-0071 Support of Reading Literacy in the Mother Tongue and Foreign Language, it is also important to reflect on outsidership as a certain ambivalent phenomenon, which appears after 1989 in contemporary Slovak literature for children and youth in various analogies. One of the aims of the study is to define the initial concept of outsider from various professional perspectives. We will also focus on the methodological basis of research of outsiders (social status, otherness, disadvantage, bullying, rebellion), not only in contemporary artistic texts but also in working exercises with regard to the learning language style.

Despite the grand demand to receive diagnostic information about students’ difficulties in reading, there are very few tests specifically designed for diagnostic purposes. Therefore, many researches in cognitive diagnostic approach (CDA) use large-scale test results to provide fine and reliable diagnostic feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of students other than the total scores or percentiles ranks, which allow appropriate intervention. This study shows an example of the application of diagnostic modeling using data from 4,762 Canadian students who completed booklet 13 of the PIRLS test in 2011. The results highlight the potential for detailed diagnostic feedback of students’ strengths and weaknesses on the underlying skills identified in the test.

Reading literacy as functional literacy, i.e. the ability to understand and use written text, is alarming for students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Slovakia. In relation to children from less favourable backgrounds, the Slovak education system has long been unable to adequately compensate for educational inequalities determined by social origin. The most important stimuli affect children before they enter primary school. The study presents selected research on supporting child readers within the context of the family, based mainly on foreign sources, where this research has a rich tradition. Factors in the so-called home literacy environment, especially reading together or so-called dialogic reading of a parent with a child, as well as the size of the family library, were identified as particularly important. At the end of the paper, the possibilities of socio-pedagogical intervention are outlined.
