There is a paucity of research frameworks that focus on aiding game selection and use, analyzing the game as a holistic system, and studying learner experiences in games. There is a need for frameworks that provide a lens for understanding learning experiences afforded in digital games and facilitating knowledge construction and motivation to learn. Towards this goal, the purpose of this article is to introduce the inquiry, communication, construction, and expression (ICCE) framework. This qualitative study with interviews and observations examined the mathematics game Dimension M. It was analyzed using the ICCE framework. It reports the interpretive results of twenty 9th graders' motivation and achievement in a game-based learning course to learn mathematics using Dimension M. The ICCE framework may be a valuable tool for aiding teachers to assess the efficacy of games for learning and for students to benefit from the possible designed experiences within games.

This article investigates the effects of teaching about metacognition in a sociological theory course. I created a series of teaching interventions to introduce students to the science of learning, including an interactive lecture on metacognition, a discussion that models metacognitive strategies, and activities for students to practice metacognition. This article describes those teaching interventions and assesses whether direct instruction led to greater use of metacognitive and cognitive strategies, confidence, and motivation to learn. Data were collected over seven semesters using a pretest–posttest approach. Comparison of means showed that students who received metacognitive instruction did not differ significantly from a control group on strategy use, confidence, or motivation. Regression analyses show that metacognitive instruction did lead to greater use of metacognitive strategies. While instruction in metacognition did not produce all desired effects, this research illustrates the value of incorporating the science of learning in sociology courses.

This qualitative study examines the challenges faced by Saudi students in the process of applying to graduateprograms while studying in an anglophone country. Through the lens of gatekeeping scholarship, this study sought toshed light on the role of letter of intent on predicting the success of Saudi students with their graduate programsapplications. Writing a letter of intent in one of the main factors influencing students’ applications. Data collectedwas mainly through semi-structured interviews and analysis of the students’ letters of intent. In conclusion, theletters of intent were found to be one of the defining factors in successful graduate applications

In comparison to studies on the improvement of students’ motivation to learn in class, there is a lack of studies on the improvement of students’ ability to motivate others to learn in class by persuasion. Meanwhile, Education Department students who are future teachers are expected and evaluated on their ability to be persuasive. As a first step to address this gap, this present study aims to review the current literature on the persuasiveness of students. Specifically, this study proposed the research question “What do existing literature tells us about persuasive communication among students?” Using keyword-based search as a basis for the library research method, from 269,000 results from Google Scholar this qualitative study collected a total of 76 as raw data over 3 months from October to December 2019. With NVivo 12 software, this present study selected only the most relevant studies to the research question to be analyzed. Analysis on the remaining 16 studies indicated that research interest in persuasive communication among students is increasing during the last five years. Many of the students’ involved in such studies, however, are mainly English, Business, or English Business students. There is still room to explore and learn more about persuasive communication with other types of variable and demography.

Students within this study followed the ICSDR (Identify, Conceptualize/Connect, Storyboard, Develop, Review/Reflect /Revise) development model to create digital video, as a personalized and active learning assignment. The participants, graduate students in education, indicated that following the ICSDR framework for student authored video guided their video creation process, resulting in focus for their ideas, and increasing motivation to learn more about their content.  Finally, the participants indicated that creating a digital video was an authentic and personalized learning experience that fostered personal choice and voice and peer collaboration. Evidence from the qualitative study supports students following a development framework for video creation.

This study examines students’ perception on the implementation of mobile games to engage young learners in learning English vocabulary. Thirty young learners in Islamic elementary school MI As-Syahid, Bekasi were the participant of the study. This qualitative study applied observation, survey, and interview. The findings revealed that: 1) young learners perceived that educational mobile games are effective in improving students’ activeness in learning and boost their motivation to learn vocabulary. 2) Young learners expand their vocabulary knowledge through mobile games, and.3) Learners have positive attitudes towards the use of educational mobile games as a supplementary medium of English learning. Additionally, mobile games can also be a potential tool to stimulate the motivation of children who experience failure in learning. This study contributes to the literature regarding vocabulary learning media and the use of mobile game in Indonesia. It highlights young learners’ perception of learning using mobile games.

Abstract Heyes argues that human metacognitive strategies (cognitive gadgets) evolved through cultural rather than genetic evolution. Although we agree that increased plasticity is the hallmark of human metacognition, we suggest cognitive malleability required the genetic accommodation of gadget-specific processes that enhanced the overall cognitive flexibility of humans.

“Hydropic degeneration” of the hepatocytes are often found in biopsy of the liver of some kinds of viral hepatitis. Light microscopic observation, compareted with the normal hepatocytes, they are enlarged, sometimes to a marked degree when the term “balloning” degeneration is used. Their cytoplasm rarefied, and show some clearness in the peripheral cytoplasm, so, it causes a hydropic appearance, the cytoplasm around the nuclei is granulated. Up to the present, many studies belive that main ultrastructural chenges of hydropic degeneration of the hepatocytes are results of the RER cristae dilatation with degranulation and disappearance of glycogen granules.The specimens of this study are fixed with the mixed fluid of the osmium acidpotassium of ferricyanide, Epon-812 embed. We have observed 21 cases of biopsy specimens with chronic severe hepatitis and severe chronic active hepatitis, and found that the clear fields in the cytoplasm actually are a accumulating place of massive glycogen. The granules around the nuclei are converging mitochondria, endoplasm reticulum and other organelles.
