ABSTRACTThis research is motivated by the low achievement of sciencem literacy of Indonesian students in the participation of the study of The Programe for International Student Assessment (PISA) held every three years by The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This study aims to determine the quality of science literacy profile of junior high school students. The sample amounted to 356 students of SMP class IX, taken using proportionate stativeied random sampling technique. The Method is test and interview. The tests given using questions obtained from the OECD published PISA issue were published in 2009 specifically for matters related to science content. The results showed that the Literacy Quality of Science Profile of Junior High School Students in Pati Regency belong to low category with percentage of 55%. In the category of moderate percentage obtained by 45% and no students who fall into the high category. As for the achievement of the value of each level, the highest ability of students in answering science literacy questions in the level 1 questions with a total of 49.43 moderate categorized, and the lowest ability of students in answering the questions of science literacy is in level questions 6th with a total of 13.48 is low categorized. The conclusion is the quality of science literacy profile of junior high school students in Pati District is low. Keywords: Profil Quality, Science Literation, SMP Student, ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya capaian literasi sains siswa Indonesia pada partisipasi studi The programe for International Student Assessment (PISA) yang diselenggarakan setiap tiga tahun sekali oleh The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil kualitas literasi sains siswa SMP se-Kabupaten Pati. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 356 siswa SMP kelas IX se-Kabupaten Pati yang diambil dengan menggunakan teknik proportionate statified random sampling. Metode pengambilan data menggunakan metode tes dan wawancara. Tes yang diberikan menggunakan soal PISA yang dipublikasikan oleh OECD diterbitkan tahun 2009 khusus untuk soal-soal yang berkaitan dengan konten sains, serta sudah diterjemahkan ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Profil Kualitas Literasi Sains Siswa SMP se-Kabupaten Pati tergolong dalam kategori rendah dengan persentase sebesar 55%. Pada  kategori sedang diperoleh persentase sebesar 45% dan tidak ada siswa yang masuk dalam kategori tinggi. Pencapaian nilai setiap levelnya, kemampuan tertinggi siswa dalam menjawab soal literasi sains terdapat pada soal level 1 dengan jumlah nilai 49,43 berkategori sedang, dan kemampuan terendah siswa dalam menjawab soal literasi sains terdapat pada soal level 6 dengan jumlah nilai 13,48 berkategori rendah. Sehingga disimpulkan bahwa profil kualitas literasi sains siswa SMP se-Kabupaten Pati tergolong rendah. Kata Kunci: profil kualitas, literasi sains, siswa SMP

This research believes that junior high school students in eighth grade need suitable and interesting reading material to develop their literacy skills which one way to achieve it is to design graphic novels of learning material on it. This research designed in the form of design and development (D&D) model proposed by Richey and Klein (2007). The development model used in this research was Richey and Klein’s (2007) ADDE model. The result was a graphic novel as an attractive literacy media that was developed for assisting eighth grade junior high school students’ literacy skills. Based on the content validity judgement, the graphic novel was highly relevant to the twelve criteria of a good graphic novel with minor revision. The quality judgment was utilized to determine whether or not the graphic novel was already qualified to serve as a good literacy source by using expert judgement. There were two expert judges and twelve users who took role in judging the quality of the graphic novel. Based on the quality judgement, the graphic novel was categorized as excellent media. Thus, the graphic novel was categorized as excellent media for assisting eighth grade students’ literacy skills.

<p align='justify'>This article describes BAIF characteristics (physics textbook) to train science literacy ability through VGM representation of junior high school students. The aim of the research is how BAIF characteristics to train science literacy ability through VGM representation of junior high school students. The aim of research can be described as two problems. First, is BAIF consist of the example of application refer to science literacy ability? Second, how is the BAIF writing pattern for junior high school students? Type of this research is R & D (Research and Development). The research is started by collecting qualitative data, and then arranging draft of BAIF until to be BAIF which ready to validation. The subject of research is BAIF to train science literacy ability through VGM representation of junior high school students. The respondents of research are students of an 8th-grade junior high school in the even semester. The technique of collecting data is observation, questionnaire, test, and document. The result of the research shows that BAIF characteristics has been consisting the example of application to train science literacy ability through VGM, and has a pattern of writing order such as title, a title of sub topic, material feature, the example of exercise item, exercise item as competence test, and references. </p>

This study aims to describe the validity and responses of students to the development of a science literacy-based pocket book on global warming material for seventh grade of junior high school students. This research is a type of Research and Development which refers to the 4-D Thiagarajan model (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). The data collection instrument used a validation questionnaire conducted by the validators (materials, media and users) and a student response questionnaire through two stages, namely a small- scale response test and a large-scale response test. Based on the results of validation by material validators, media validators and users (teachers) were declared very valid with an average percentage of the three validators of 92.12%. The results of the responses of small-scale students were 96.45%. The large scale of 88.24% showed that the responses of students were very interesting to the development of a science literacy-based pocket book on global warming materials for junior high school students.

Humans are faced with industrial advances based on science and technology to meet the needs of human life and solve problems from related issues based on scientific literacy skills. This study aims to describe students' scientific literacy skills which include aspects of knowledge, aspects of competence, aspects of cognitive, and aspects of the context of junior high school students aged 15 years. This research is a quantitative descriptive analysis research. The instrument used to determine scientific literacy skills was a scientific literacy test consisting of 20 multiple choice questions. The science literacy test was validated by two expert lecturers at the State University of Surabaya and one science teacher at State Junior High School of 32 Surabaya. The research also aims to describe the correlation of scientific attitudes to scientific literacy skills. The instrument used was a response questionnaire with 20 yes and no questions. The results showed that the value of the knowledge aspect was 60.57%, the competency aspect was 60.60%, the cognitive aspect was 59.9%, and the context aspect was 60.19%. Scientific literacy skills can be improved by refraction,strategies, and appropriate learning methods. Teachers need to provide access to learning resources from various literary sources, including browsing information via the internet. Students need to be trained to be literate, hone critical and creative thinking, be competent in making decisions to solve problems, and communicate systematically.
