This research was aimed to produce a valid electronic graphic novel on free radical reaction subject and to find out the student’s response to the developed product. This research employed Research & Development (R&D) method by using Thiagarajan’s 4D model with modification, in which applied only three of four steps in 4D model.  The developed product was validated by experts. The responses toward developed product were collected from the students of Chemistry Education FKIP Untan who have taken organic chemistry course.  Data collection tools used were validation sheets and student’s response questionnaires on the developed product.  The validation’s result from the experts showed that the developed product was very proper in terms of content, presentation, linguistic, and graphic aspects with consecutive total scores of 94.0%, 95.0%, 89.0%, and 100,00% respectively. The results of the student’s responses in small group trials and in large group trials were of 82.5% with high category and of 83.2% with very high category, respectively.  Thus, this electronic graphic novel on radical reaction has very good potential as a learning media to attract students to learn free radical reaction and its application in daily life.

ABSTRACT: This study is focused on the analysis of the graphic novel Embajada de Rui by Nieves Rosendo, a text inspired by the travel of the Castilian ambassadors to the court of the great Mongolian leader, an important historical event in the early 15th century whose testimony was reflected in the medieval travelogue Embajada a Tamorlán. The goal of this work is to examine why this contemporary novel differs from the medieval source, as well as to analyze what are the features that it shares with the original testimony and what is the vision of medieval travel that intends to convey to the readers. The analysis carried out allows us to see how the Middle Ages continues to be an idealized period to the nostalgic gaze of contemporaries who see in it a distant and fascinating era that enabled true travels and discoveries.

ABSTRACT: The objective of the adaptation to a graphic novel by La Celestina is to present the 21st century reader an edition that offers not only the text in question, but also the context in which the work was created and consumed since it went to press. Books, like people, are subject to the vagaries of history and circumstances. With this adaptation project, still in its infancy, we will tell you how we imagine the trip. All based on historical data and literary studies of the more than five hundred years that this novel has been seducing the public.

ABSTRACT: Close to those works that already analyzed the projection of the Cidian matter on formats or cultural expressions other than literature —Rodiek ([1990] 1995), Aguilar (2014), Boix Jovaní (2015), Saguar García (2017), Escandell Montiel (2017)—, the aim of this article is to examine the graphic novel El Cid (2020), scripted and illustrated by Alberto Valero and based on the homonymous historical novel by José Luis Corral (2000). The objective is to analyze this new cidian recreation in relation to the original novel from which it starts, a long cidian tradition and the discursive particularities of the graphic novel.

Through the analysis of the graphic novel L’Arabe du future 1. Une jeunesse au Moyen-Orient (1978-1985) by the Franco-Syrian cartoonist Riad Sattouf, this contribution aims to investigate the construction of hegemonic masculinity in Gaddafi’s post-colonial Libya and Hafez al Assad’s Syria. First, this study intends to track the stages of Riad’s journey towards the achievement of hegemonic masculinity. In this context, a special focus will be laid on the construction of the mother’s character through that of the father, thereby showing how the female character takes shape from the male perspective. Second and finally, it attempts to analyse how the author implements a deconstruction path of hegemonic masculinity by using certain rhetorical devices, namely irony, stereotype repetition and the adoption of his own perspective as a child.

A graphic novel written by a noted scholar contributes to a recent opening in Turkish culture for revisiting the era of the country’s 1980 coup, previously a taboo subject. The book evokes a time of political violence and student unrest and idealism, before a turn to repression and neoliberal capitalism.
