Background: Decreasing of sea cucumber resources on numbers and size of fishing capture in Negeri Porto waters influenced its community structures. Further, water environment steadiness will questionable. For this reason, study was done to analyzed community structures of sea cucumbers include of numbers species found, density, potency, species presence frequency, distribute pattern, ecology index and environment measurement. Method: Research done on February to May, 2008 at Negeri Porto used Line Transect Method. Result: showed there were eight species of sea cucumbers found (potency as much as 12.286 individuals). Bohadschia marmorata got highest in numbers species found, density, potency and species presence frequency. There were three distribute pattern of sea cucumbers found wich are uniform, random and group. Conclusion: Sea cucumbers diversity was in lower, species are closed to compatible. B. marmorata and Holothuria edulis are tends to dominate this water. Environment factors such temperature, pH, salinity, DO, turbidity, current and sediment distribute showed that Porto waters was suitable to sea cucumbers growth.

Payment for Environmental Services (PES) has been widely adopted as a solution to compensate upstream water users for providing clean water. However, the size of payments is critical to the success of PES, and the problems of determining the correct price is often critical to the implementation of PES policies. We demonstrate three independent valuation methods to determine the price of the ecosystem service (ES) of water quality in the Miyun Reservoir, the main surface water source for Beijing. The three using valuation methods are: i) Water Resources Benefits Assessment (WRBA), ii) Contingent valuation method (CVM), and opportunity cost of limitation of development rights (OCLDR). We found the value of water quality is lowest using OCLDR, highest with CVM, and the WRBA in-between. We propose OCLDR is used to determine compensation to upstream; WRBA for pricing water transfer; and CVM for payments integrated water quality improvement.

Large dams may be substantial contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. Nitrous oxide (N2O) is the third most important greenhouse gas but studies on N2O emission from reservoirs are limited. We measured N2O emissions and environmental factors including atmospheric pressure, wind speed, air and soil/sediment temperature, biomass, soil water content and organic matter, total nitrogen, NH4+-N and NO3−-N of soil, from the littoral zones of the Miyun Reservoir, near Beijing, China, in January, May, June, August, and October during 2009 and 2010. Using the static chamber method we investigated the seasonal and spatial variation, relating it to environmental factors. Spatial and temporal variations in N2O flux appeared to be influenced by several environmental factors, working singly or in conjunction, including soil water depth, soil nutrition, biomass, and wind speed. In winter and spring, high N2O emissions (up to 1.9 ± 0.6 mg N2O m−2 h−1) were recorded at both eulittoral and infralittoral zones, while the flux from the supralittoral zone was low during all the seasons (from −0.04 to 0.01 mg N2O m−2 h−1). This study suggests that the littoral zone is a substantial source of N2O. However, its spatiotemporal variation and environmental drivers are still not clear.
