Field experiments were conducted for three years at Pulses and Oilseeds Research Station, Berhampore, Murshidabad, West Bengal, India during rabi 2008, 2009 and 2010 to develop an efficient chemical weed management practice with newer herbicidal molecules in yellow sarson. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with three replications having eleven treatments. Experimental results revealed that highest seed yield (1456 kg ha-1) was recorded under the treatment twice hand weeding and lowest with weedy check (910 kg ha-1). Twice hand weeding recorded 60% higher seed yield over weedy check. Application of chemical herbicides significantly improved the seed yield over W0 at 5% level of significance.. Among the chemical weed control measures, application of Pendimathalin @ 1 kg a.i./ha (PE) recorded highest seed yield (1320 kg ha-1) of yellow sarson, which was found at par with application of Pendimathalin @ 1.5 kg a.i./ha (PE), Fluchloralin @ 1.5 kg a.i/ha (PPI) and Clodinafop @ 0.06 kg a.i./ha ( 25-30 DAS). Chemical weed management practices increased the seed yield of yellow sarson by 25.3 to 45.1% over weedy check. Highest weed control efficiency (86.4%) was recorded with hand weeding twice. Significant reduction in the total weed density and total weed dry weight were found with the application of chemical herbicides at 5% level of significance. Among the chemical herbicides Pendimathalin @ 1 kg a.i./ha (PE) recorded highest weed control efficiency (81.7%). Chemical weed control measures increased the total microbial population by 26.5 to 89.4% over weedy check and 6.6 to 59.6% over twice hand weeding and thus proved to be environmentally safe and economic for managing weeds in yellow sarson.

Field experiments were conducted during Rabi 2014, at Paddy Breeding Station, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore to study the effect of pre-emergence / early post emergence herbicides along with hand weeding options on weed control in transplanted rice. The soil of the experimental field was clay loam in texture with pH 8.23. The performance of different pre-emergence application of butachlor 50% EC 1.5 kg a.i. ha-1, flucetosulfuron 10% WG in two doses at 20 g a.i ha-1 and 25 g a.i ha-1, pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 10% WB 75 g a.i ha-1, early post emergence application of penoxsulam + cyhalofop-butyl in two doses at 120 g a.i ha-1 and 135 g a.i. ha-1, bispyribac sodium 10% SC 35 g a.i ha-1 were evaluated along with pre-emergence application of pretilachlor 50% EC 1.0 kg a.i ha-1 + HW at 45 DAT, butachlor 50% EC 1.0 kg a.i ha-1 + HW at 45 DAT in comparison with hand weeding twice at 20 and 40 DAT, unweeded control and weed free check. The test variety used in this experiment was Co (R) 50. The experimental results revealed that weed free check had 100% weed control efficiency (WCE) in all the stages of crop growth. Among the various treatments tested, At 90 DAT, weed control efficiency (WCE) was maximum with early post emergence application of penoxsulam + cyhalofop-butyl135 g a.i. ha-1 (T5) recorded the maximum weed control efficiency of 85.78%. The number of productive tillers m-2 recorded ranged between 441 in T5 and 295 in unweeded control (T11). Grain yield ranged between 7717 kg ha-1 in weed free check (T12) and 5194 kg ha-1 in unweeded control (T11). The maximum straw yield of 9277 kg ha-1 was recorded in weed free check (T12). This was on par with early post emergence application of penoxsulam+ cyhalofop-butyl 135 g a.i. ha-1 (T5) and hand weeding twice at 20 and 40 DAT (T10) with 9206 kg ha-1 and 9019 kg ha-1.

Field experiment under dry direct seeded rice(Oryza sativa L.) was conducted during rainy season of 2010 and 2011 at Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), Parwanipur, Bara to develop appropriate weed management practices for dry direct- seeded rice. The trial was laid-out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) and replicated thrice. Observations were taken on weed, plant growth and yield attributing, yield, and socio-economic parameters. The weed density, dry weed weight and weed control efficiency resulted significantly different as influenced by integrated weed management practices. Low weed population density, low weed index and highest weed control efficiency resulted by pendimethalin followed by 2, 4- D followed by one hand weeding were at par with weed free check. Highest yield resulted from weed free plot followed by pendimethalin followed by two hand weeding and pendimethalin followed by 2, 4- D followed by one hand weeding. However, the net return per unit investment resulted highest in pendimethalin followed by 2, 4- D followed by one hand weeding. This proved that amid increasing wage rate and labour scarcity integrated weed management through pendimethalin 30 EC (Stomp) @1 kg a. i. /ha as pre- emergence herbicide application followed by 2, 4- D sodium salt 80 WP @ 0.5 kg a. i. /ha followed by one hand weeding or stale seed bed followed by pendimethalin 30 EC (Stomp) @1 kg a. i. /ha followed by bispyribac (Nominee gold) @25 g a. i. /ha 10% @200 ml/ha at 20 days of seeding resulted best alternative for manual hand weeding practices giving higher net return per unit investment. A field experiment was conducted during Kharif seasons of 2014 and 2015 at Udaipur (Rajasthan) to find out the effect of weed management on productivity of clusterbean under varying fertility levels. The results revealed that among various weed management practices, two hand weeding 20 and 40 DAS recorded significantly lower weed dry matter, higher weed control efficiency, higher values of yield attributes, seed, haulm and biological yield during both the years over rest of the treatments except sequential application of pendimethalin fb imazethapyr which was statistically at par. Further, application of Imazethapyr fb hand weeding and pendimethalin fb hand weeding also gave comaparable results with pendimethalin fb imazethapyr in terms of weed control efficiency and yields. Among the fertility levels application 20 Kg N + 40 Kg P2O5 ha-1 significantly increased pods plant-1 (24.04), seeds pod-1, (7.12), test weight ( 25.33 g), seed ( 1035 kg ha-1), haulm (2161 kg ha-1) and biological (3196 kg ha-1 ) yield and harvest index ( 31.98 %) of clusterbean over 10 Kg N + 20 Kg P2O5 ha-1 however, it was found statistically at par with fertility level 30 Kg N + 60 Kg P2O5 ha-1. Therefore, clusterbean should be fertilized with 20 Kg N + 40 Kg P2O5 ha-1 and weeds must be controlled with pendimethalin (PE) fb imazethapyr 0.1 kg ha-1 20 DAS .

A field experiment was conducted at Forage Research and Management Centre, NDRI, Karnal during <italic>rabi</italic> season in 2013-14 to study the effect of nitrogen application and weed management on growth and yield of fodder turnip (<italic>Brassica compestris</italic> var. rapa) with four levels of nitrogen (0, 50, 100, and 150 kg N/ha) and four weed management practices (pendimethalin @ 1.0 kg a.i./ha, hand weeding, isoproturon @ 0.75 kg a.i./ha and weedy check) in split plot design. Among the nitrogen treatments 150 kg nitrogen/ha gave the highest growth, yield and better quality of fodder turnip. Application of pendimethalin @1.0 kg a.i. proved better in terms of growth and yield of turnip. Weed control efficiency was 65% with 150 kg N/ha and 83.23% with pendimethalin 1.0 kg a.i./ha.

A field experiment entitled, “Integrated weed management in Kharif maize (Zea mays L.)” was conducted during Kharif, 2020 at Post Graduate Research Farm, RCSM College of Agriculture, Kolhapur. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) having three replications and twelve treatments. The soil of the experimental plot was medium black clay (vertisol) with 90 cm depth, low in available N (250 kg ha-1), high in available P2O5 (30.60 kg ha-1) and medium in available K2O (290.67 kg ha- 1). The status of organic carbon content (0.34%) was low. The electrical conductivity and pH values were 4.2 dSm-1 and 7.10, respectively.Weed free check and tank mixure application of Tembotrinone 42 SC @ 120gm a.i.ha-1 + Atrazine 50 WP @ 500 gm a.i.ha-1 + surfactant @ 2ml/l of water EPoE At 20-25 DAS + fb hand weeding at 40 DAS were on par with each other and recorded significantly the higher growth and yield contributing characters viz., plant height (cm), number of functional leaves plant-1, leaf area plant-1(dm2), dry matter plant-1(g), length of cob (cm), diameter of cob(cm), number of grains, weight of grains cob-1and test weight resulting into significant increase in grain and straw yields of maize as compared to remaining weed management treatments. Tank mixure application of Tembotrinone 42 SC @ 120gm a.i.ha-1 + Atrazine 50 WP @ 500 gm a.i.ha-1 + surfactant @ 2ml/l of water EPoE At 20-25 DAS + fb hand weeding at 40 DAS recorded minimum dry weight of weed, highest weed control efficiency (86.94 %) and lowest weed index (1.79%).Significantly lowest values for growth, yield and yield attributes as well as weed control efficiency was observed in weedy check treatment.

Background: Field experiments/ On Farm Trial (OFT) were conducted at Farmers field in village Hasanchak and Agwanpur under the ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barh, Patna during the winter season (Rabi). The basic aim of experiment was to find out the effective method of weed control in Zero- tilled wheat through the application of herbicide. Methods: The experiment was laid in Randomized Block design (RBD) in 2014-2015, replicated 4 times (Farmers field) with 5 treatments viz., 2,4-D, ethyl ester 2.00 kg ha-1 at 25 days after sowing (DAS) fb one hand weeding (Conventional tillage-Farmer practices) at 55 DAS, Sulfosulfuron 75% WP 25 g ha-1, Metsulfuron 20% WP @ 20 g ha-1 at 25 DAS, Sulfosuluron 75% WP + Metsulfuron 20% WP @ 40 g ha-1 at 25 DAS and control (Unweeded). Result: Sulfosuluron 75% WP + Metsulfuron 20% WP @ 40 g ha-1 at 25 days after sowing provided effective control of grassy and broadleaf weeds and recorded less dry weight and highest (91%) weed control efficiency (WCE). Herbicide Sulfosulfuron 75% WP 25 g ha-1 and Metsulfuron 20% WP @ 20 g ha-1 controlled only grassy and broadleaf weeds, respectively. 2,4-D, ethyl ester 2.00 kg ha-1 fb one hand weeding (Conventional tillage-Farmer practices) recorded higher weed dry weight and less weed control efficiency (WCE). Significantly higher grain yield (4280 kg ha-1) was recorded under Sulfosuluron 75% WP + Metsulfuron 20% WP @ 40 g ha-1 at 25 days after sowing followed by Metsulfuron 20% WP 20 g ha-1, Sulfosulfuron 75% WP 25 g ha-1, 2,4-D, 2.00 kg ha-1 fb one hand weeding (Farmer practices). Significantly higher net return (Rs. 48145 ha-1) and B:C ratio (2.93) were recorded under Sulfosuluron 75% WP + Metsulfuron 20% WP @ 40 g ha-1 at 25 days after sowing.

A field experiment was carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Paramakudi, Tamil Nadu during 2017- 18 to study the interaction between weed ecology, competition and management strategies in semi-dry Direct Seeded Rice. The fieldexperiment was laid out in split- plot with irrigation in main plot and weed management in sub plot. The results revealed that least weed density was recorded after irrigation when water level droped to 10cm below soil surface. Among weed management practices hand weeding twice at 20 and 40 days after sowing (DAS)has recorded the lowest weed density with highestweed control efficiency. Among the interactions, lowest weed density and highest weed control efficiency was recorded when water level droped to 10 cm below soil surface with combination hand weeding twice at 20 and 40 DAS.

The field experiments were carried out at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Nadia, West Bengal, India during summer seasons of 2012 and 2013, to study the effect of weed management on growth and yield of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) in gangetic plains of West Bengal. Weed biomass, weed control efficiency as well as the pods plant-1, 100-seed weight, seed yield were significantly affected due to weed control treatments. Treatment receiving hand weeding twice recorded lowest weed biomass (3.44 g m-2) and highest WCE (85.09 %). Highest seed yield (1025 kg ha-1) was also recorded with hand weeding, which was significantly higher over other treatments. The results also showed that oxyfluorfen and chlorimuron-ethyl treatment applied at recommend rate were also effective in reducing the dry weight of weeds. Further the tested herbicides did not have significant effect on the crude protein and oil content in seeds.

Field investigation was carried out during <italic>kharif</italic> season of 2012 the results showed that unchecked weeds caused a reduction of 66.67% in black gram yield. Two hand weeding at 25 and 50 DAS recorded maximum number of pods /plant, number of seeds /pod, 1000 seeds weight, seed yield and higher weed control efficiency followed by Imazathapyr+Imazamox (premix) @ 50 g/ha PoE at 20 DAS. Imazathapyr+Imazamox (premix) @ 50 g/ha at PoE 20 DAS registered highest net return and B:C ratio followed by Imazathapyr +Pendimethalin (premix) @ 1000 g/ha PE.

The field experiments were conducted during two consecutive seasons of kharif (June to October), 2016 and 2017 at the Experimental Research Farm, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, Nagaland, India. The treatments consisted of four planting geometries i.e. maize+black gram (1:1), maize+black gram (2:2), maize+soybean (1:1) and maize+soybean (2:2) and three weed management practices i.e. weedy check, pre-emergence application of pendimethalin @ 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1+one hand weeding (1HW) at 30 DAS and two hand weedings (2HW) at 20 and 40 DAS. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with two factors comprising twelve treatment combinations and replicated three times. The results revealed that among the planting geometry, maize+soybean (2:2) recorded the highest weed control efficiency (WCE) and reduced the weed population, fresh weight and dry weight of monocot and dicot weed at 60 DAS and gave the maximum maize equivalent yield (4374.96 kg ha-1). Among the weed management, 2HW at 20 and 40 DAS recorded the lowest weed population, fresh weight, dry weight and the highest weed control efficiency (WCE) of monocot and dicot weed at 60 DAS and the maximum maize equivalent yield as 4591.10 kg ha-1 which was at par with the pre-emergence application of pendimethalin @ 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1+1HW at 30 DAS as 4461.80 kg ha-1. The highest net return (` ha-1), return per rupee invested and B: C ratio were recorded from the pre-emergence application of pendimethalin @ 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1+1HW at 30 DAS with ` 36624.05 ha-1 which was closely followed by 2HW at 20 and 40 DAS with Rs. 35428.81 ha-1.
