Abstract Objective To investigate whether the General Educational Development (GED) certificate should be considered equivalent to a standard 12-year high school education when performing demographic corrections on neuropsychological performance levels. If the GED certificate and high school diploma reflect comparable levels of educational achievement, then performance on the Test of Premorbid Function (TOPF) and selected WAIS-IV indices should not differ between groups. Method Archival neuropsychology data were reviewed to identify patients who either (1) did not complete high school and did not subsequently obtain a GED, (2) did not complete high school but subsequently obtained a GED, or (3) completed high school and did not obtain any further formal education. Most patients were programmatic referrals for epilepsy surgery evaluation, although referrals from the general neurology clinic were also included. The primary dependent measures were the TOPF and WAIS-IV Full Scale IQ (FSIQ). Results High school graduates obtained higher scores on the TOPF (p < .01, partial η2 = 0.16) and FSIQ (p < .01, partial η2 = 0.14) as compared to both GED subjects and subjects withdrawing from high school with no GED. The non-GED group and the GED group did not differ from each other. Conclusions These findings demonstrate that the GED is not equivalent to a standard 12-year high school education when characterizing educational background. Although these data do not address what the appropriate year equivalent should be for the GED when adjusting performance for educational background, using 12 years will likely identify more areas of neuropsychological weakness simply by suggesting higher levels of premorbid ability.

Objectives: This study determined the nurses’ performance and the clients’ delight of Ward 8 of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines. The findings of the study were the basis for a proposed Client Service Seminar of the Nursing Service. Specifically, the study answered the following queries:1.What is the profile of the patients in terms of:1.1.age; 1.2.gender; 1.3.civil status;1.4.highest educational attainment;1.5.religion; and1.6.monthly income?2.What is the profile of the staff nurses in terms of:2.1.age; 2.2.gender; 2.3.civil status;2.4.highest educational attainment;2.5.religion;2.6.client service seminars attended; and2.7.years of experience?3.What is the performance of the staff nurses in terms of:3.1.assessment;3.2.planning;3.3.implementation;3.4.evaluation;3.5.documentation; and3.6.work behavior/professional values?4.What is the level of clients’ delight in terms of:4.1.assurance;4.2.responsiveness;4.3.empathy;4.4.reliability;4.5.tangibility?5.Is there a significant relationship between the profile and performance of staff nurses?6.Is there a significant relationship between the profile and clients’ delight?7.What client service seminar can be proposed based on the findings of the study? Methods:The descriptive-correlational design was utilized as research design. The study included 90 patients who had at least 2 weeks stay in the hospital, with ages between 18-50 years old, literate and conscious. The study also includes 9 staff nurses. The study was conducted at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Ward 8, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines. The utilized a modified tool of SERVQUAL which measures service quality.Findings and Conclusion:Majority of the patients are male, married, high school graduates, 31-40 years old, and has a monthly income below P5,000.00. They were highly delighted in terms of assurance, reliability, and tangibility. However, they were moderately delighted in terms of responsiveness and empathy.Majority of the staff nurses are 31-40 years old, married, with 1-4 years of work service, with units in a Master’s degree program, and has attended in at least 2 clients’ delight seminar in a year. The staff nurses were very satisfactory in terms of performance. Only two pair of variables have significant relationships: civil status and empathy; and income and responsiveness. 10562 Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cause of cancer-related death and morbidity among young women in Latin America. This group has a higher prevalence of advanced disease stages at diagnosis compared to their older counterparts. Thus, strategies aimed at detecting BC at early stages are imperative. Breast self-examination (BSE) remains a useful strategy for BC detection, especially in women who do not routinely undergo screening with imaging studies. This study aims to evaluate factors related with BSE practice in Mexican young women with BC and assess its association with earlier disease stages. Methods: Women aged ≤40 newly diagnosed with BC from 2014 to 2020 at three cancer referral centers in Mexico accrued in the Joven & Fuerte cohort were included and asked to complete a socio-demographic survey. Fisher’s exact and Mann-Whitney U tests were used to evaluate associations between BSE and socio-demographic characteristics, as well as disease stages. Results: A total of 554 patients with a median age at diagnosis of 36 years (range: 19-40) were analyzed. Most patients (65%) were married or in a domestic partnership, and the majority were housewives (63%). Regarding educational background, 64% had completed at least high school, and up to 84% had a monthly income < 11,600 Mexican pesos (US$ 581). Overall, 85% of patients had public insurance, 6% had private insurance, and 9% were uninsured. The distribution of clinical stages at diagnosis was: 0 (2%), I (11%), II (45%), III (32%), and IV (10%). BC detection methods were: 85% by self/partner exam, 11% by an imaging study, and 4% by a healthcare professional. A total of 443 (80%) patients practiced BSE, of which 50% did it on a monthly basis, 18% every 2-3 months, and the remaining 12% every 4-12 months. Notably, a higher educational level (≥ high school v ≤ middle school) was positively associated with BSE practice (RR: 1.28; 95%CI 1.06-1.54; p= 0.005). No significant association was found between BSE and age (≤35 v > 35), marital status (in a relationship v no), occupation (housewive v other), monthly income ( < 11,600 v ≥11,600) or medical coverage (public/uninsured v private). Patients that performed BSE were more likely to be diagnosed with early BC (stages 0-II) compared to those that did not (61% v 45%; p= 0.003). No association was found between BSE frequency and stage at diagnosis. Noteworthy, patients with private insurance were more likely to be diagnosed with stages 0-II compared to those with public or no insurance (80% v 56%; p= 0.007). Conclusions: The significant association between BSE and earlier stages at diagnosis found in this study highlights the need to raise awareness and promote this practice among young women with the objective of downstaging BC diagnoses. Public health interventions such as educational and social media campaigns that aim to improve the correct practice of BSE might be particularly useful in settings with inadequate screening programs.

The dynamics of several demographic indicators of Russia - child and teenage cohorts in 1970-2000, life expectancy in 1995-2000, migration flows among federal districts in the period between two censuses of 1989 and 2002 - are considered in the article. The author puts forward the hypothesis about the influence of these indicators on the level of education in narrow and broad senses - in educational institutions and the society as a whole. He estimates the perspectives of regional higher educational institutions under conditions of absence of plan distribution of graduates and the double cyclical fall in the number of high school graduates. The agenda for the development of a two-stage system of higher education corresponding with international integration processes is formulated.
