In this work, we focus on the document visualization strategy to support the access to information in the digital era. First, we discuss the dynamics of the document visualization approach and the ability to generate innovations with a direct impact in the digital transformation competitive scenario. Second, we discuss the visualization and computational intelligence methods such as data mining and knowledge discovery as important tools to improve decision making process. Then we present the knowledge organization systems concept and the main challenges related to document visualization strategy. Finally, we discuss the digital and visual literacies have become common to how we read and view information and communicate with others to meet the demands of the transformations of the digital age.

The quality of a given water body can be assessed through the analysis of a number of indicators. Mathematical and computational models can be built to simulate the behavior of these indicators (observable variables), in such a way that different scenarios can be generated, supporting decisions regarding water resources management. In this study, the transport of a conservative contaminant in an estuarine environment is simulated in order to identify the position and intensity of the contaminant source. For this, it was formulated an inverse problem, which was solved through computational intelligence methods. This approach required adaptations to these methods, which had to be modified to relate the source position to the discrete mesh points of the domain. In this context, two adaptive techniques were developed. In one, the estimated points are projected to the grid points, and in the other, points are randomly selected in the iterative search spaces of the methods. The results showed that the methodology here developed has a strong potential in water bodies’ management and simulation.

For most professionals to succeed in the current job market, they need some entrepreneurial skills (ES). This study aimed to describe and systematize these skills, considering the current globalization and digital transformation phenomena. The documental analysis and the critical reflection on the collected data allowed us to identify the socio-economic and socio-cultural reasons for the relevance of this problem. Consequently, to elaborate a frame of reference intended to be adequate to the needs of the professionals of the current global and digital era. The results pointed to a tripartite ES model—to be open to novelty, to create solutions to emerging problems, and to communicate effectively—which integrates the following skills: Creativity and innovation, the spirit of initiative, self-efficacy and resilience, strategic planning, and evaluation, resolution of problems and decision-making, transformational leadership, clear and visual communication, teamwork and networking, and digital communication. In the continuation of this study, an ES scale will be created and validated according to this model, which will make it possible to measure the degree of development of these competencies.

In the digital era, organizations are increasingly tasked with creating and utilizing new content, applications, and/or services through the use of advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) to sustain a competitive advantage. Indeed, sustainability is now an embedded and overarching feature of organizations’ strategic planning. Research has shown that information technology (IT) departments are vital to organizations’ digital transformation. However, the role of IT departments in non-ICT-oriented organizations undergoing digital transformation has yet to be explored. Our study reveals that although the IT departments of non-ICT-oriented organizations play an important and proactive role in the early stages of organizational transformation and a dominant role in developing ICT capabilities, they will be unable to assume a leadership role within the organizations after transformation is complete.

One of the critical issues in managing information within an organization is to ensure that proper controls exist and are applied in allowing people access to information. Passwords are used extensively as the main control mechanism to identify users wanting access to systems, applications, data files, network servers or personal information. In this article, the issues involved in selecting and using passwords are discussed and the current practices employed by users in creating and storing passwords to gain access to sensitive information are assessed. The results of this survey conclude that information managers cannot rely only on users to employ proper password control in order to protect sensitive information.
