The study aimed at examining the relationships among family environment, depression and self-concept of adolescents in Hong Kong. A multi-domain perspective was adopted. The study involved a total of 2706 adolescents. Subjects were group administered a questionnaire containing the multi-domain Family Environment Scale (Moos & Moos, 1981), the multi dimensional depression scale – Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale (Reynolds, 1987) and the Multi-domain Multi-Perspective Self-Concept Inventory (Cheung & Lau, 1996). Results showed that all the three domains of family environment (relationship, personal growth, and system maintenance) correlated significantly with the three depression aspects (emotionality, lack of positive experience, and physiological irritation). The relationship domain of FES appeared to correlate more strongly than the other two domains with the depression aspects. The FES domains also correlated strongly and positively with the four domains of self-concept: academic, appearance, social, and general. Both the relationship domain and system maintenance domain correlated more strongly than the personal growth domain with the self-concept domains. Regression analyses showed that family relationship was most predictive of various aspects of depression and self-concept. Sex difference was found in the prediction of both boys' and girls' depression and self-concept. With boys, system maintenance was predictive only of self-concept. With girls, personal growth was predictive of depression, and personal growth and system maintenance were predictive of self-concept. Analysis of variance showed that students high on family relationship, personal growth, and system maintenance were low in different depression aspects, but high in various self-concept domains. It was concluded that a cohesive, orderly, and achieving family environment is conducive to more positive development in adolescents, in terms of lower depression and higher self-concept.

The study design applied cross-sectional using a questionnaire, and sampling was done by purposive sampling. Respondents were people who used antibiotics without a doctor's prescription. The survey was conducted in Yogyakarta in September-October 2018. The data were analyzed descriptively and used multivariate logistic regression. As many as 44.2% of the total 670 respondents used antibiotics the last time more than a year ago; 69.5% received information about antibiotics from previous treatments; 93.4% received antibiotics from pharmacies, and 69.2% stated that the most used antibiotic was amoxicillin. More than half (62.2%) of respondents were still willing to become customers at a pharmacy that had refused to provide antibiotics without a prescription. Respondents with high school education or lower as the latest education degree (OR = 1.513; 95% CI 1.017-2.252); from family income below the regional minimum wage (OR = 1.858; 95% CI 1.302-2.651), and from Sleman Regency (OR = 1.457; 95% CI 1.016-2.089) became a predictor of the unwillingness of respondents to become customers at a pharmacy who had refused to provide antibiotics without a prescription. Supervision of antibiotic (especially amoxicillin) in pharmacies and education to the community needs to be used as part of a strategy against irrational use of antibiotics. In addition, education needs to be given to pharmacists to reduce fears of decreased in the number of their customers because they refuse to deliver antibiotics without a prescription.

This article discusses the relationship of humanistic psychology to what the author perceives as the dangerous leadership and rhetoric of United States President Donald Trump, in particular in regard to the severe crisis of the coronavirus pandemic. President Trump’s divisive political and racist rhetoric is described with an emphasis on it quite possibly being linked to a rise in xenophobic violence against Asian Americans, which is related to Asian Americans being unfairly blamed for the spread of the coronavirus. Core values of humanistic psychology consisting of genuine and empathic human relationships, personal growth and transformation, and creativity are offered as antidotes to the severe world of lockdowns, social distancing, and remote interactions becoming the norm that we are currently witnessing in the existential crisis of the coronavirus pandemic. The author utilizes his own experience in the Resisting Trump progressive politics movement as an additional antidote and focuses on the extreme urgency of doing so in our current coronavirus pandemic existential crisis. Finally, the author conveys the importance of working through humanistic psychology cofounder Abraham Maslow’s lower and higher levels simultaneously in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, to survive the coronavirus pandemic.

The Experiential Theory of Bereavement was derived from open-ended, telephone interview data provided by thirty-four adults who had experienced the death of a loved one. Strengths of this grounded theory study are that it was developed with nonclinical persons, it encompasses the illness and dying course, taking into account the full context of illness survivors grief, and it encompasses personal growth as a vital component of the grieving process. Regardless of the cause of death, the timeliness of the person's death, or the relationship of the survivor to the deceased, the process of bereavement follows a consistent overall pattern. Illness survivors were not found to have an ameliorated or foreshortened bereavement process as predicted by the anticipatory grief hypothesis.
