There are several problems that can interfere with the performance of large-scale PV. One that enhances PV performance is shading on a PV module, that make interferes PV performance. This research studied about the effect of shading on the performance of large-scale PV systems through testing a 9 × 10 Wp miniature PV array and simulation using Matlab software. The use of diodes on a PV module can be done to prevent damage to the PV module due to shading. Through the power-voltage (P-V) and current-voltage (I-V) characteristic curves the effect of shading and the use of bypass and blocking diodes can be determined. Shading effect gave in a decrease in power in the PV module. From the results of this study note that the bypass diode and blocking diode output power generated by the PV module can be optimal.

The impact of partial shading on photovoltaic (PV) array is discussed in this paper. The partial shading on PV array can significantly decrease the power generation of PV array. This study examines the modeling of PV module which relates with solar irradiation, temperature, and shading pattern. There are different shading patterns on PV array, such as one-string shading, two-strings shading, and much more. The characteristics of current-voltage (I-V) and voltage-power (V-P) curves for each individual the PV array can be different dependent on the multiple MPPs, maximum power points (MPPs). These multiple MPPs are basically lower than the MPP in case of no shading. Therefore, the total generated energy in an interested time period is usually reduced. As a result, this paper proposes the appropriate arrangement of PV modules in a PV array in order to mitigate the impact of partial shading. Finally, the proposed arrangement of PV modules is tested in a testing system. All the obtained results confirms that the proposed arrangement of PV modules is effective and can be applied in practice.

In vast Photovoltaic (PV) power plant the output power production decreases significantly due to the fact of non-uniform aging of PV modules. The non-uniform aging of PV modules increases current-voltage (I-V) mismatch among the array modules and causes mismatch power loss (MPL). There are different interconnection topologies of the PV module in an array to minimize MPL and thus maximize the array output power. This paper investigates four different interconnection topologies experimentally on a 4×4 nonuniformly aged PV array. Three different patterns of PV module rearrangement are used to investigate the performance of each interconnection topology in terms of array output power and MPL. The experimental results show that the proposed interconnection topology is yields about 3.28% (average) higher output power than that of the most commonly used series-parallel array topology. Abstract The concept of coal-fired power generation aided with solar energy uses stable fossil energy to compensate the instability and intermittently of solar power and reduces the cost of concentrated solar power (CSP) by decreasing the large-scale heat storage and turbine systems of CSP. In this study, trough solar collector system (TSCS) was integrated into the low-pressure heater side of a 660 MW coal-fired power generation system. In the system in which the 6# LP heater is completely replaced by TSCS, the variation value of the steam extraction flowrate of the LP heaters and the turbine output power decrease with the reduction in loads from 100% to 60% THA, and the output power increases by approximately 1 MW under 100% THA. When TSCS completely replaces the 6# LP heater under the load of 75%, the effects of direct normal irradiance (DNI) increase and flow ratio decrease on the main operating parameters of solar-aided coal-fired power plant (SCPP) were studied. Results show that the step increase of DNI decreases the 5# steam extraction flowrate and increases the output power by nearly 3 MW. When the flow ratio decreases by 139.87 kg/s, the output power decreases by around 0.35 MW. The dynamic characteristics of SCPP under different parallel situations with the load of 75% were also studied. As the number of parallel stage increases, the decrement in 5# steam extraction flowrate and the increment in output power decrease. The response time also decreases. Our study aims to provide detailed references for the control system design and optimization of coal-fired power units aided with solar energy.

The electrical power generation from solar photo voltaic arrays increases by reducing partial shading effect due to the deposition of dust in modules, shadow of nearby buildings, cloud coverage leads to mismatching power losses. This paper gives the detailed analysis of modeling, simulation and performance analysis of different 4x4 size PV array topologies under different irradiance levels and to extract output power of panels maximum by reducing the mismatching power losses. For this analysis, a comparative study of six PV array topologies are Series, Parallel, Series-Parallel, Total-Cross-Tied, Bridge Linked and Honey-Comb are considered under various shading conditions such as one module shading, one string shading, zigzag type partial shading and total PV array partially shaded cases. The performance of above six topologies are compare with mismatching power losses and fill-factor. For designing and simulation of different PV array configurations/topologies in MaTLab/Simulink, the LG Electronics LG215P1W PV module parameters are used in all PV modules.

Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques are used in photovoltaic (PV) systems to maximize the PV array output power by tracking continuously the maximum power point (MPP) which depends on panels temperature and on irradiance conditions. In this work we have made a comparison between P & O algorithm with proposed adaptive reference algorithm. It has been concluded that The power output with adaptive reference algorithm at the load terminal is coming to be 6.5 kilo Watts approximately where as with P & O it is calculated to be 1.5 kilo watts approximately. Hence it is a better proposed algorithm as compared to traditional P & O technique

There are a large number of photovoltaic (PV) arrays in large-scale PV power plants or regional distributed PV power plants, and the output of different arrays fluctuates with the external conditions. The deviation and evolution information of the array output are easily covered by the random fluctuations of the PV output, which makes the fault diagnosis of PV arrays difficult. In this paper, a fault diagnosis method based on the deviation characteristics of the PV array output is proposed. Based on the current of the PV array on the DC (direct current) side, the deviation characteristics of the PV array output under different arrays and time series are analyzed. Then, the deviation function is constructed to evaluate the output deviation of the PV array. Finally, the fault diagnosis of a PV array is realized by using the probabilistic neural network (PNN), and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified. The main contributions of this paper are to propose the deviation function that can extract the fault characteristics of PV array and the fault diagnosis method just using the array current which can be easily applied in the PV plant.

Abstract Although crystalline silicon PV technology has been in use for more than 30 years, PV has remained a "cottage industry" until the recent expansion. This paper provides an introduction to the issues of reliability in the photovoltaic (PV) field, and the work the Department of Energy's Solar Energy Technologies Program is focused on to address these issues. In particular, the works of the Reliability Programs at both Sandia National Laboratories and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory are reviewed with several examples of results included and sited. Expanding reliability assessment and failure analysis techniques for components and systems can enhance the reliability of PV systems, which is necessary for large-scale deployment of PV as a power generation source.

Photovoltaic systems are designed to feed either to grid or direct consumption. Due to global concerns, significant growth is being observed in Grid connected solar PV Plants. Since the PV module generates DC power, inverter is needed to interface it with grid. The power generated by a solar PV module depends on surrounding such as irradiance and temperature. This paper presents modelling of solar PV arrays connected to grid-connected plant incorporated with irradiance and temperature variation, to design simulator to study and analyse effect on output power of solar PV arrays with irradiance and temperature variation, also to estimate the output power generated by PV arrays. The mathematical model is designed implemented separately on simulator for each PV components connected in PV systems, which are PV cell, Module, sting, array and field of arrays. The results from simulation based on model are verified by the data collected from power plants and experiments done on solar PV cell.
