To utilize maximum solar energy, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control is much important for PV system. The paper presents a new MPPT method based on adaptive predictive algorithm which is superior to traditional Perturbation and Observation (P&O) method. PV output power is predicted to improve the tracking speed and deduce the possibility of misjudgment of increasing or decreasing the PV output voltage. Because PV output power can be obtained directly, close loop can be established so as to achieve a precise prediction. Simulations and experiments prove that proposed MPPT control can track the maximum power point rapidly, and the system can operate steadily with this MPPT method.

A dual-mode MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) method is proposed in this paper. When external conditions or loads change suddenly, the P&O (Perturb and Observe) method is used to adjust the operating point of the PV (Photovoltaic) array close to the MPP (Maximum Power Point) for fast tracking; meanwhile, the INC (Incremental Conductance) method is combined with the P&O method to optimize the steady-state characteristic. Moreover, to improve the control precision, the golden section point is used to adjust the disturbance step on line. Simulation results show that the proposed method tracks the MPP (Maximum Power Point) quickly, reduces the oscillation around the MPP effectively and improves the energy conversion efficiency of the PV system availably.

In this article, on the basis of studying the mathematical model of a PV system, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique with variable weather conditions is proposed. The main objective is to make a full utilization of the output power of a PV solar cell operating at the maximum power point (MPP). To achieve this goal, the incremental conductance (IC) MPPT technique is applied to an off-grid PV system under varying climatic conditions, in particular, solar irradiance and temperature that are locally measured in Northern Morocco. The output power behavior and the performance of the system using this technique have been analyzed through computer simulations to illustrate the validity of the designed method under the effect of real working conditions.

A proposed algorithm MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) is proposed in this paper. When the insolation change rapidly, the P&O (Perturb and Observe) algorithm is used to adjust the operating point of the PV (Photovoltaic) array close to the MPP (Maximum Power Point) for fast tracking; also, the INC (Incremental Conductance) algorithm and the fuzzy controller skip drawbacks of the P&O algorithm by decreasing oscillations around the MPP and the underestimated. In addition, to improve the control precision, the effectiveness of proposed algorithm is validated by simulation using Matlab/Simulink, the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm tracks the MPP quickly, reduces the oscillation around the MPP effectively and improves the energy conversion efficiency of the PV panel.

The output of photovoltaic (PV) array is affected by the environmental factors such as irradiation and temperature, so an effective maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method of PV array is necessary. In this paper, a modified perturb and observe (MPO) method is proposed to achieve MPPT for a PV system and to improve the shortcomings of prior methods. Comparing with a typical perturb and observe (P&O) MPPT method, the MPO efficiency is improved in transient state by the proposed MPPT as theoretical prediction.

Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques are a fundamental part in photovoltaic system design for increasing the generated output power of a photovoltaic array. Whilst varying techniques have been proposed, the adaptive neural-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is the most powerful method for an MPPT because of its fast response and less oscillation. However, accurate training data are a big challenge for designing an efficient ANFIS-MPPT. In this paper, an ANFIS-MPPT method based on a large experimental training data is designed to avoid the system from experiencing a high training error. Those data are collected throughout the whole of 2018 from experimental tests of a photovoltaic array installed at Brunel University, London, United Kingdom. Normally, data from experimental tests include errors and therefore are analyzed using a curve fitting technique to optimize the tuning of ANFIS model. To evaluate the performance, the proposed ANFIS-MPPT method is simulated using a MATLAB/Simulink model for a photovoltaic system. A real measurement test of a semi-cloudy day is used to calculate the average efficiency of the proposed method under varying climatic conditions. The results reveal that the proposed method accurately tracks the optimized maximum power point whilst achieving efficiencies of more than 99.3%.

This work comprehensively demonstrates the performance analysis of Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) algorithm on a stand-alone Photovoltaic (PV) applications systems. A PV panel, DC-DC Boost converter and resistive load was utilized as PV system. Three different MPPT algorithms were implemented in the converter. The result obtained from the converter was analyzed and compared to find the best algorithm to be used to identify the point in which maximum power can be achieve in a PV system. The objective is to reduce the time taken for the tracking of maximum power point of PV application system and minimize output power oscillation. The simulation was done by using MATLAB/Simulink with DC-DC Boost converter. The result shows that FLC method with PSO has achieved the fastest response time to track MPP and provide minimum oscillation compared to conventional P&O and FLC techniques.

To harvest maximum amount of solar energy and to attain higher efficiency, photovoltaic generation (PVG) systems are to be operated at their maximum power  point (MPP) under both variable climatic and partial shaded condition (PSC). From literature most of conventional MPP tracking (MPPT) methods are able to guarantee MPP successfully under uniform shading condition but fails to get global MPP as they may trap at local MPP under PSC, which adversely deteriorates the efficiency of Photovoltaic Generation (PVG) system. In this paper a novel MPPT based on Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) is proposed to analyze analytic modeling of PV system considering both series and shunt resistances for MPP tracking under PSC. The proposed algorithm is tested on 6S, 3S2P and 2S3P Photovoltaic array configurations for different shading patterns and results are presented. To compare the performance, GWO and PSO MPPT algorithms are also simulated and results are also presented.  From the results it is noticed that proposed MPPT method is superior to other MPPT methods with reference to accuracy and tracking speed.Article History: Received July 23rd 2016; Received in revised form September 15th 2016; Accepted October 1st 2016; Available onlineHow to Cite This Article: Kumar, C.H.S and Rao, R.S. In this paper, a novel incremental conductance (INC) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method based on extension theory is developed to make full use of photovoltaic (PV) array output power. The proposed method can adjust the step size to track the PV array’s maximum power point (MPP) automatically. Compared with the conventional fixed step size INC method, the presented approach is able to effectively improve the dynamic response and steady state performance of a PV system simultaneously. A theoretical analysis and the design principle of the proposed method are described in detail. Some simulation results are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed MPPT method.
