Bird survey was conducted in Phulchoki hill during two different seasons in January 2018 and April 2018. The objective of the study was to identify seasonal avian diversity, and to determine relative abundance and species richness. Fixed radius point- count method was used to evaluate the bird diversity and their number. Shannon-Weiner Diversity Index was used to calculate the diversity of species during two different seasons. A total of 78 species of birds belonging to 7 orders and 24 families were recorded. Passeriformes was the most dominant order with 58 species and Sylvidae was the most dominant family with 14 species. 59 bird species were recorded in winter and 50 in spring seasons. The analysis of data on residential status revealed that 64 species were residents, 10 species winter visitors and 4 species summer visitors. The relative abundance of species was Very Common (n= 16), Common (n= 38), Uncommon (n= 9) and Rare (n= 15). Higher Shannon- Weiner Diversity Index (H'= 1.488) was recorded during the winter season and low during the spring season (H'= 1.169). Evenness index showed that birds were evenly distributed in winter season (E= 0.253) than spring season (E= 0.207). Maximum birds were seen in Mining area during both winter and spring season and minimum birds in the bus park area of Phulchoki due to habitat destruction and human disturbances.

There exists limited information on biodiversity including avifaunal diversity and habitat condition in community forests (CF) of Nepal; thus we aimed to fulfill such gaps in Tibrekot CF of Kaski district. We used the point count method for assessing bird diversity and laid out a circular plot size of radius 5-m within 15-m distance from each point count station for recording the biophysical habitat characteristics. Bird species’ diversity, richness and evenness were calculated using popular indexes and General Linear Model (GLM) was used to test the respective effect of various biophysical factors associated with the richness of bird species. In total, 166 (summer 122, winter 125) bird species were recorded in 46 sample plots. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index was calculated as 3.99 and 4.09, Margalef’s richness index as 16.84 and 17.53 and Pielou’s evenness index as 0.83 and 0.84 for summer and winter, respectively. The influencing factors for richness of bird species were season (χ21, 90= 112.21; P= 0.016) with higher richness in the summer season and low vegetation cover (χ21, 89= 113.88; P= 0.0064) with higher richness in lower percentage cover. Thus, community managed forest should be protected as it has a significant role in increasing bird diversity, which has potential for attracting avifaunal tourism for the benefit of the local communities.

Riparian is a riverbank area that has unique characteristics. It is a combination of terrestrial with aquatic habitats so that riparian ecosystems have high biodiversity values. Riparian is included in a protected area that is naturally designated for vegetation, but in reality, riparian areas, especially in urban areas, have a lot of conversion of land functions by humans so that it can disrupt diversity of tree and bird species. This study aims to identify the diversity of tree and bird species and the correlation between the two. Riparian length of Cisadane River, South Tangerang City is 20.15 km. The method used was plot line with size of 20 m x 20 m for tree data and line transect for bird data by systematic sampling with a random start then analyzed using Shannon Wiener index. The results obtained were found 22 tree species included in 11 families with species diversity index (H') of 2.707 and 40 bird species belonging to 25 families with species diversity index (H') of 2.794. The diversity of tree and bird species is classified as medium. The results of the analysis using the Pearson correlation between the diversity of tree with bird species obtained that there was no relationship between the two. Based on these results, riparian zones in urban areas need to be maintained and improved in quality so that the diversity of tree and bird species increases so as to create a stable ecosystem.

Lowland Forest at the complex of Bulusaraung mountain  in the Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park is one of important habitat of birds in South Sulawesi. This study aimed to identify bird’s diversity in the Lowland Forest of Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park for ecotourism purposes. This research was carried out for 2 months between April and May 2018. The data were gathered by using line transect method. The data were analyzed by using Shannon-Weiner diversity index, Evenness index, Margalef species richness index, and Sorensen Similarity index. The result of the study showed that, there were 23 species of birds found in the three lines of observation tracks. There were 19 species  found in Balleanging, 12 species  in Kattokaddaro and 15 species  found in Tompobulu.The highest value of bird diversity index was found in Tompobulu (H '= 1,73) followed by Balleanging (H' = 1,54) and Kattokaddaro routes (H '= 1,43). Therefore, the diversity of bird species in the three observation pathways can be used as objects and attractions in the development of ecotourism based on bird watching in wildlife conservation efforts.

The trees of parks and gardens support many species, the survival of urban-dwelling species mainly bird species. Birds amongst other species provide a wide range of environmental and social functions to cities and urban dwellers. The present study aims to know bird diversity in two parks as bioindicator of automobile air pollution exposure, landscape changes and/or human interactions. The study areas were selected as per heavily-populated neighborhoods, nearby office buildings, nearby roads and continuous vehicular movements, human interactions as visitors, where high levels of human disturbance are common. The study was carried out at 2 sampling stations viz (i) Elliot park and (ii) Agri-horticulture Society. The bird species diversity was studied by qualitative and quantitative assessment. Indices were Species richness, Index of Dominance, Relative abundance, Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index and Evenness Index for birds for all selected sites were calculated using the statistical formulae. The present results as bioindicators bird species clearly indicate that the bird species are very few in numbers in both the parks. When comparison made between both the parks, it was observed less number of bird varieties (16 types) in Elliot park than varieties (9 types) more less in number in Agri-horticulture society. This study is a preliminary assessment of bird diversity but further researches are needed in relation to biochemical and genetic damage study as well as air pollution load by using instruments. In the present study it was concluded that the less numbers of birds and their different diversity indices were found a decreasing trends, though there no attempt has been made on physico-chemical properties of present air pollutants. The less number of varieties of bird species are as tolerant bioindicators, which may be due to the vehicular pollution and/or human interference and/or landscape changes due to nearby neighborhood blocks, office and residential buildings, continuous movement of vehicles etc

Tropical forests have undergone extensive transformation because of increasing tourism development, in addition to historic clearing for agricultural and cattle grazing activities. Altogether, these activities have had an important effect on bird diversity, reducing the habitat available to many species. In this study, the role of tropical forest remnants located between different land use types was evaluated for species diversity, composition, and distribution of the bird community at Akumal region in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Point counts were used to quantify the avifauna by habitat, and Shannon´s and Simpson´s diversity index were used to determine bird diversity. Additionally, bird species were classified according to seasonality and trophic guild by type of habitat. A total of 160 species and 50 families was recorded, of which 100 species were permanent residents, 47 winter visitors and 11 transients. Mature tropical forest and tropical forest remnants had higher species richness than those of modified environments. This study supports the importance of tropical forest remnants as shelters for bird species in landscapes with tourism developments, and the relevance of these remnants to maintaining high bird diversity. The avian diversity of Oak mixed forest in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand was studied during October 2019 to March 2020. Two strands of oak mixed forest located at different sites at 29º 22’-29º 75’ North and 78º, 10’ -78º,80’ East (1750 masl) were selected. Regular field survey was carried out during the morning and evening hours at each site. A total of 63 species of birds belonging to 07 orders and 31 families were recorded. The average bird diversity index H ¯was 3.202. The species richness was observed around 7.27 and species evenness was 0.72. The highest number of species was recorded at Ransi Oak mixed forest (63) and lowest number of bird species were recorded in Teka Oak mixed forest (60).

The study (2007-08) was carried out in Phewa Lake which is one of the largest lake systems in Nepal to evaluate seasonal diversity and population status of waterbirds. A total of 39 waterbird species belonging to 17 families of 5 orders was recorded. The highest number of species (31 species) was found in December and January. Winter was the most diverged season in terms of number of species (35 species) and summer and autumn by 17 species. January had the highest (1584) and September the lowest (345) waterbird population. Out of 39 species, 15 species were winter visitors, 10 resident, and 4 rare winter visitor. The highest diversity ( H =2.6228) was found in February and lowest ( H =1.2014) in June. The value of evenness (Jacob's coefficient) was higher (0.8485) in February and lowest (0.4555) in June. During June, 69.92% (616 individuals) of the total population (881) constituted only Cattle Egret. The dominancy was found highest (C=0.5058) in June and lowest (C=0.1020) in February. The bird communities of summer and autumn were more similar (S=0.7059) than the summer and winter (S=0.5). The fluctuation in number of individuals of bird species was found unrelated to seasons (months) (F=1.71, df = 8, 342, P ≤ 0.05). The species richness was found different in different seasons (months) (Χ2=29.34, df = 8, P ≤ 0.05). Detail study of bird diversity and population status with periodic monitoring in Phewa Lake is recommended for their conservation and management as a whole. AbstrakKawasan kampus Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) sedang mengalami perkembangan fisik yang pesat, seperti pembangunan gedung perkuliahan, laboratorium, asrama, juga embung untuk sumber air. Informasi mengenai keanekaragaman hayati di ITERA sendiri belum banyak diteliti, salah satunya adalah keanekaragaman burung. Burung merupakan hewan besar yang cukup sensitif dengan perubahan lingkungan. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendapatkan data mengenai keanekaragaman burung di ITERA untuk memberikan informasi dasar. Metode yang digunakan adalah teknik point count, diterapkan pada lima stasiun utama yang dipilih berdasarkan pusat aktivitas pembangunan. Analisis yang digunakan adalah indeks keanekaragaman, kemerataan, juga kelimpahan. Selain itu, status konservasi dan tipe pakan jenis burung dianalisis menggunakan data sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 19 jenis burung dari 16 famili. Keanekaragaman jenis burung berdasarkan indeks Shannon-Wiener tergolong sedang dan kemerataan jenis merata. Dari kategori kelimpahan yang digunakan terdapat dua jenis burung yang umum ditemukan. Bersumber pada PP No. 7 tahun 1999, terdapat empat jenis burung di ITERA yang termasuk ke dalam kategori dilindungi dan satu jenis termasuk kategori Appendix II di CITES. Feeding guild burung di ITERA didominasi tipe omnivora dan insektivora. AbstractInstitut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) campus area is undergoing rapid physical development, such as the construction of lecture buildings, laboratories, dormitories, as well as reservoirs for water sources. Information on biodiversity in ITERA has not much studied, one of which is bird diversity. Birds are large animals that are quite sensitive to environmental changes. This study aims to obtain data on bird diversity at ITERA to provide the baseline information. The method used is a point count technique, applied to five main stations selected based on the center of development activities. The analysis used is an index of diversity, evenness, and abundance. Besides, the conservation status and feed type of bird species were analyzed using secondary data. The results showed that there were 19 species of birds from 16 families. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index classified the bird community as a moderate, and the community evenness index was stable. From the abundance category, two types of birds commonly found. Based on PP No. 7 of 1999, there are four species of birds in ITERA, which included in the protected category and one species, including the Appendix II category in CITES. Omnivorous and insectivorous types dominate bird guild feeding in ITERA.

AbstractLindu Enclave area is an area that cannot be separated from the Lore Lindu National Park (TNLL) because it is situated in the TNLL area. Lore Lindu National Park is located in the Wallacea area with high level diversity especially for the bird diversity. The existence of TNLL has an important role as habitat for 80% of Sulawesi endemic birds. This study aimed to determine the diversity of birds in the Lindu Enclave. Data was collected using PIA (Point Index of Abundance) method with 14 observation points which were scattered in two villages: Tomado Village and Anca Village. The results of bird watching analysis showed that as many as 51 species of birds from 25 families were found in the Lindu Enclave. Out of 51 birds, there were 14 species categorized in the protected birds and 15 species were endemic birds. Out of 15 species endemic bird, 4 species were categorized in the protected bird species. The most common bird species was intermediate egret (Egretta intermedia), as many as 86 individuals. Keberadaan TNLL mempunyai peranan yang penting sebagai habitat burung karena 80% burung endemik Sulawesi terdapat di kawasan  ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui keanekaragaman jenis burung di kawasan Enclave Lindu. Pengambilan data menggunakan metode IPA (Indeks Point of Abundance) dengan 14 titik pengamatan yang tersebar di dua desa yaitu Desa Tomado dan Desa Anca. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebanyak 51 jenis burung dari 25 famili berhasil ditemukan di kawasan Enclave Lindu. Dari 51 jenis burung tersebut, terdapat 14 jenis yang termasuk dalam jenis burung dilindungi dan 15 jenis burung endemik. Dari 15 jenis burung endemik tersebut terdapat 4 jenis burung yang termasuk dalam jenis burung yang dilindungi. Jenis burung yang paling umum ditemukan adalah Kuntul perak (Egretta intermedia), sebanyak 86 individu. Indeks keanekaragaman jenis burung di kawasan Enclave Lindu adalah 3,23 dengan tingkat keanekaragaman yang tergolong tinggi.Kata kunci: Enclave Lindu, biofisik, keanekaragaman burung, Taman Nasional Lore Lindu

In Malaysia, the current status of birds inhabiting agarwood Aquilaria malaccensis plantations has not been specifically studied, and little research has been conducted to investigate birds in other agricultural areas (e.g., rubber, acacia, and oil palm plantations) and disturbed areas.  This study was conducted to assess bird species richness and relative abundance, as well as feeding guilds, in two agarwood plantation sites: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris in Tanjong Malim (UPSI), and Slim River (SR).  The presence of birds was recorded using a combination of techniques (mist-nets and point count), while various sources were used to compile feeding information.  This study recorded 364 birds from 36 species in 24 families.  Shannon diversity index (H’) values for the UPSI and SR sites were 2.896 and 2.492 respectively, indicating high bird diversity.  The Bray-Curtis index was 0.29, indicating these sites share few species.  Insectivorous and omnivorous birds were dominant in UPSI (31%), and omnivores at SR (32%).  The commonest insect order at both sites was Orthoptera (UPSI 48%, SR 25%).  While agarwood plantations are relatively homogeneous, they provide a variety of food sources and shelter for a wide range of birds.
