Abstract CARPENTER NICKEL-COPPER ALLOY 400 combines high strength (comparable to structural steel) and toughness over a wide temperature range. It can be strengthened by cold working. It has excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. This alloy has excellent mechanical properties at sub-zero temperatures; also, it can be used at temperatures to 800 F(427 C) and as high as 1000 F(538 C) in sulfur-free oxidizing atmospheres. Alloy 400 is used widely in many fields, particularly marine and chemical processing. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ni-319. Producer or source: Carpenter.

Abstract CARPENTER NICKEL-COPPER ALLOY 405 is the free-machining grade of Carpenter Nickel-Copper Alloy 400, the result of a controlled amount of added sulfur. Like Alloy 400, Alloy 405 is a solid-solution alloy and therefore strengthed only by cold work. Its strength is comparable to that of structural steel and it has good toughness. It can be used from sub-zero to as high 800 F (1000 F in sulfur-free oxidizing environments). Its corrosion resistance (including virtual immunity to stress-corrosion cracking in chloride environments) is very good in reducing conditions but not in oxidizing atmosphere. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ni-338. Producer or source: Carpenter.
