Abstract Croloy 16-13-3 is a molybdenum-containing 18-12 type austenitic stainless steel having better corrosion resistance than the 18-8 type stainless steels. It is recommended for corrosion resisting applications in the chemical and oil refinery industries, paper pulp processing, etc. In addition to corrosion resistance, this alloy is characterized by superior resistance to creep at elevated temperatures. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as creep. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SS-202. Producer or source: Babcock & Wilcox Company.

Abstract CARPENTER STAINLESS TYPE 317 is a modified version of the conventional 18% chromium-8% nickel stainless steel made by adding molybdenum (3-4%) and more nickel (nominally 13%). Molybdenum is added to improve resistance to corrosion by certain specific corrodents. The extra nickel is added to keep the steel austenitic by offsetting the well-known effect of molybdenum in promoting the formation of ferrite. Type 317 has higher tensile and creep strengths than the 18-8 stainless steels at elevated temperatures. Its many uses include equipment to handle paper pulp and high-temperature applications. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as creep. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-423. Producer or source: Carpenter.
