Innovative Concepts for Preventive Maintenance

The Michigan Department of Transportation is committed to the successful implementation of a preventive maintenance program to protect pavement and bridge structures, slow the rate of deterioration, and correct minor pavement deficiencies using surface treatments that primarily target pavement surface defects caused by the environment and deficiencies in pavement materials. Structural deficiencies of the pavement structure caused by traffic-loading are generally not corrected by this program. Many innovative concepts were incorporated in the Michigan Preventive Maintenance Program. The business processes were simplified, and more responsibility was given to the private sector. All preventive maintenance projects used standard specifications and contained a limited number of pay items. But perhaps the most substantial concept was the introduction of warranty specifications for all surface treatments. The implementation of warranty specifications involved mutual trust and cooperation between the department and private enterprise. All contracting industries, suppliers, and bonding and insurance companies were invited to participate in this innovative venture. Introducing new and untested concepts required significant hours of discussion and negotiation by all groups represented. The final results gave the contractors greater flexibility in selecting the materials and application methods used for warranted surface treatments. The department gained higher quality and longer-lasting surface treatments with a smaller workforce.

Reliability Based Maintenance (RBM) programs are commonplace in the Aviation, Power Generation and Chemical / Petrochemical industries. In these sectors, Equipment Failure is not an option. The Industrial / Manufacturing sector(s) have not fully embraced the RBM concept and for the most part routinely suffer loss of production output and the subsequent loss of revenue associated with equipment failures. Two of the Key Elements to the successful implementation of the RBM process in the Industrial / manufacturing sector(s) is the establishment of Reliability and Maintainability Specification and a viable Machinery / Equipment Lubrication and General Preventive Maintenance Program. This Paper will outline procedures for establishing an RBM Program. Methods to evaluate the results will be outlined as well.

Цифровые технологии существенно влияют на мировой рынок, внося коррективы в расстановку сил на нем. Используемые ранее подходы к управлению бизнес-процессами становятся не актуальными в современных условиях. Без цифровизации наукоемкие производства будут не способны выдержать конкурентную борьбу, и вынуждены будут уйти с рынка. В то же время современные условия хозяйствования диктуют необходимость постоянного совершенствования бизнес-процессов наукоемких предприятий, их оптимизации. Данные принципы являются основой концепции бережливое производство, реализация которых становится более эффективной при условии использования цифровых технологий. В статье рассмотрены вопросы интеграции концепции бережливое производство и цифровых технологий на наукоемких предприятиях. Показан пример успешной реализации принципов данной концепции с использованием цифровых подходов к оптимизации бизнес-процессов наукоемкого производства. В современных условиях важнейшим активом любого предприятия, в том числе и наукоемкого производства, являются данные. Реализация принципов бережливого производства требует обработки значительного объема информации. Цифровые технологии позволяют анализировать информационные потоки в режиме реального времени, моделировать бизнес-процессы и тем самым, способствуют более качественному и оперативному принятию решений по оптимизации бизнес-процессов наукоемких производств. Только объединив принципы концепции бережливое производство и возможности, которые дает цифровизация, наукоемкие предприятия смогут не просто удержать свои конкурентные позиции на рынке, но и перейти на более качественный уровень своего развития. Previously used approaches to business process management are no longer relevant in modern conditions. Without digitalization, high-tech industries will not be able to withstand competition and will be forced to leave the market. At the same time, modern business conditions dictate the need to constantly improve the business processes of high-tech enterprises and optimize them. These principles are the basis of the concept of lean manufacturing, the implementation of which becomes more effective when using digital technologies. The article deals with the integration of the concept of lean manufacturing and digital technologies in high-tech enterprises. An example of successful implementation of the principles of this concept using digital approaches to optimizing business processes in high-tech production is shown. In a market economy, there are a significant number of shipping companies that compete with each other and fight for maximum profits in a highly competitive environment. Competitive advantages lie in the plane of organization of the fleet, which relate mainly to the management of shipping companies. Operators of shipping companies establish tactical and strategic cooperation with freight forwarders and other participants in the logistics chain for the successful implementation of business processes and subprocesses. The study of the water transport of Ukraine from 2002 to 2020 revealed that in this period there were significant structural changes in freight turnover and traffic, which indicates the presence of serious systemic problems in management. If current trends continue, the national economy may lose such a strategically important sector. The shortcomings in the field of international maritime transport are caused, among other things, by inefficient management of business processes of Ukrainian shipping companies. The business process of a shipping company is a set of interdependent tasks and works aimed at creating a product or service to meet the needs of their customers. The business processes of shipping companies are due to the characteristics of staff and the processes of international trade. Thus, the personnel of shipping companies, concentrated in the operational units, provide a range of services that ensure the movement of goods and passengers with the required level of quality. The complex of such services is described by many business processes and represents the main processes of the shipping company. Improving the business processes of these companies must be viewed through the prism of the field of logistics, the main factors in the development of which are staff and international trade trends. Research and study of international experience in the field of business process management and its implementation in the activities of shipping companies of Ukraine to some extent will improve the declining trends in freight traffic and water transport, which have been observed in recent years.

This review article is devoted to the study of innovative strategies for managing the activities of insurance companies. In the condi-tions of risky environment, rather high probability occurrence of threats of natural and technogenic character, problems concerning the necessity of a scientific substantiation of the process of the insurance market stakeholders’ interaction aggravate. It is established that insurance in the world economic space is an indispensable financial and economic tool for neutralizing a variety of risks, especially given today’s the socio-economic, financial, epidemiological dangers. It is proved that despite the key parameters’ positive dynamics of the Ukrainian insurance market development for 2009-2019, there is a need to intensify business and investment activity of its participants. The competitive environment of the insurance market requires insurance companies to implement innovative management strategies focused primarily on solving two interrelated problems: firstly, the expansion of property risks’ insurance coverage, as well as risks related to citizens’ life, health and ability to work, secondly, the formation of the insurers’ solvency and ensuring an acceptable level of insurance operations’ profitability in terms of certain types of insurance. It is determined that one of the primary tasks of the insurance company’s management is the management of its business processes aimed at forming a model of customer-oriented behaviour in relation to potential customers. The article emphasizes the need to use a variety of innovative management strategies to achieve medium-term and long-term goals of the company in the insurance market. In particular, the expediency of diversification and the use of alternative pricing strategies for insurance services for long-term and general types of insurance is argued. Proposals aimed at digitalization of the insurance market and wide application of FinTech technologies in the field of insurance services are formulated: automated underwriting, IOT-technologies; blockchain in insurance. Summarizing the results of the study, the author’s vision of the further insurance relations’ functioning of in society is specified. Статтю присвячено дослідженню інноваційних стратегій управління діяльністю страхових компаній. В умовах ризикогенного середовища, досить високої ймовірності виникнення загроз природного та техногенного характеру загострюються проблеми щодо необхідності наукового обґрунтування процесу взаємодії стейкхолдерів страхового ринку. Аргументовано, що страхування у світовому економічному просторі є незамінним фінансово-економічним інструментом нейтралізації найрізноманітніших ризиків, особливо зважаючи на соціально-економічні, фінансові та епідеміологічні небезпеки сучасності. Визначено, що одним із першочергових завдань менеджменту страхової компанії є управління її бізнес-процесами, спрямованими на формування мо-делі клієнтоорієнтованості відносно потенційних клієнтів. Наголошено на необхідності використання різноманітних інноваційних стратегій управління для досягнення середньострокових та довгострокових цілей компанії на страховому ринку. Зокрема, аргу-ментовано доцільність здійснення диверсифікації та використання альтернативних стратегій ціноутворення на страхові послуги з довгострокових та загальних видів страхування. Сформульовано пропозиції, спрямовані на цифровізацію страхового ринку та широке застосування FinTech-технологій у сфері страхових послуг: автоматизований андерайтинг, ІОТ-технології; блокчейн у страхуванні. Supply chain is a network of firms interacting in a linear fashion to produce, sell and deliver a product or service to a predetermined market segment. It links all the chain partners within and across organization to work competitively by forming the partnerships together with the integration of business processes, technical and organizational aspects. The successful implementation of supply chain management depends on many soft issues (strategic/behavioural). The soft issues of supply chain models can be dealt through proper information sharing, communication and coordination between the stages of supply chain. Vendor managed inventory is a proven concept for successful collaborative and cooperative agreements in supply chain. This chapter reviews some of the soft issues in two-echelon supply chain models and proposes a classification schema. This chapter surveys the theoretical background and application of vendor managed inventory systems based on environment, operational issues and solution approaches. Hence it is concluded that the framework presented in this chapter would aid supply chain managers and researchers to further look into the soft issues while modeling supply chain with information technology enabled vendor managed inventory systems.

It is now believed that success of ERP systems is largely dependent on not only the successful evaluation, selection, implementation and post-implementation of ERP systems, but also on integrating it with the organizational business processes. On the other hand, nearly all business processes are collaborative in the sense that multiple human agents or actors interact with one another for achieving one or more process goals. As a result, one can claim that one major factor in successful implementation of the ERP systems is development of appropriate conceptual models of the ERP process from various perspectives. In this chapter the writer, being a member of the CSCW (computer supported cooperative work) research community, introduces a conceptual model for ERP which has an emphasis on the collaborative nature of ERP process that explicitly addresses the “awareness” and “knowledge-sharing” issues within the ERP process. This conceptual model demonstrates collaboration requirements of the actors behind individual business processes as well as the relationships among these business processes. This chapter is intended to introduce to the ERP community a relevant piece of work in conceptual modelling from the perspective of CSCW with the aim of attracting research collaborators for further investigation in these fields.
