In a market economy, there are a significant number of shipping companies that compete with each other and fight for maximum profits in a highly competitive environment. Competitive advantages lie in the plane of organization of the fleet, which relate mainly to the management of shipping companies. Operators of shipping companies establish tactical and strategic cooperation with freight forwarders and other participants in the logistics chain for the successful implementation of business processes and subprocesses. The study of the water transport of Ukraine from 2002 to 2020 revealed that in this period there were significant structural changes in freight turnover and traffic, which indicates the presence of serious systemic problems in management. If current trends continue, the national economy may lose such a strategically important sector. The shortcomings in the field of international maritime transport are caused, among other things, by inefficient management of business processes of Ukrainian shipping companies. The business process of a shipping company is a set of interdependent tasks and works aimed at creating a product or service to meet the needs of their customers. The business processes of shipping companies are due to the characteristics of staff and the processes of international trade. Thus, the personnel of shipping companies, concentrated in the operational units, provide a range of services that ensure the movement of goods and passengers with the required level of quality. The complex of such services is described by many business processes and represents the main processes of the shipping company. Improving the business processes of these companies must be viewed through the prism of the field of logistics, the main factors in the development of which are staff and international trade trends. Research and study of international experience in the field of business process management and its implementation in the activities of shipping companies of Ukraine to some extent will improve the declining trends in freight traffic and water transport, which have been observed in recent years.

In the modern business scenario, organizations are vesting high efforts in managing process sustainability as part of their operations management practices. The global environmental concerns for the welfare of the society have facilitated this change. Research studies have reported Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as one of the prerequisites in developing and maintaining efficient business processes. The process sustainability related initiatives and various processes related regulatory compliances have created the need for sophisticated IT tools like BPM (Business Process Management) and BI (Business Intelligence) in organizations. Thus with the advancement of ICT, a strong desire to enhance the business process performance through BPM and BI applications is felt across organizations. However, there is scant research available on leveraging the advantages of these applications in sustainability development. Therefore, this paper aims to present a conceptual architecture framework using an integrated BPM and BI solution to develop an orientation among practitioners and academicians towards the inclusion of ICT in attaining a sustainable, energy efficient business operations or processes. The framework is based on the literature pertaining to the role of BPM and BI in process sustainability as well as from the inputs of practitioners involved in the field of BPM and BI.

The sustainable development of an organisation requires a holistic approach to the evaluation of an enterprise’s goals and activities. The essential means enabling an organisation to achieve goals are business processes. Properly managed, business processes are a source of revenue and become an implementation of business strategy. The critical elements in process management in an enterprise are process monitoring and control. It is therefore essential to identify the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that are relevant to the analysed processes. Process monitoring can be performed at various levels of management, as well as from different perspectives: operational, financial, security, or maintenance. Some of the indicators known from other fields (such as personnel management, finance, or lean manufacturing) can be used in mining. However, the operational mining processes require a definition of specific indicators, especially in the context of increasing the productivity of mining machines and the possibility of using sensor data from machines and devices. The article presents a list of efficiency indicators adjusted to the specifics and particular needs of the mining industry resulting from the Industry 4.0 concept, as well as sustainable business performance. Using the conducted research and analysis, a list of indicators has been developed concerning person groups, which may serve as a benchmark for mining industry entities. The presented proposal is a result of work conducted in the SmartHUB project, which aims to create an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform that will support process management in the mining industry.

Information support of production processes and production is becoming an unchangeable condition for their efficiency, in terms of importance comparable to the provision of material, technical, financial, labor and other resources. The paper is based on the methods of a systematic approach, analysis and synthesis of world trends in national and international theory and practice of interaction between digital technologies and business. It was found that innovations in the field of digital technologies for land reclamation do not meet the requirements of management automation implemented in the developed sectors of national and global economy. The factors of competitiveness of business processes, which are successfully integrated into management decisions using digital systems, are identified. The influence of managerial innovations on the strategic development of the business structures of an enterprise is characterized. In addition, the authors revealed the reasons for the unsatisfactory implementation of high-tech innovations by enterprises of traditional industries. The authors proposed the transfer of digital technologies from a high-tech sector of production to a low-tech one as a priority measure, representing the important condition for the growth of competitiveness of both traditional and high-tech sectors of economy.

Successful change management in economic systems of various levels presupposes the adoption and implementation of management decisions, which makes a sufficient condition for obtaining the desired result and achieving goals, taking into account the resources at the disposal of integrated education. The change management process involves not only efficiency, but also the efficiency of resource use. The purpose of the study is to identify approaches and methodological tools for managing changes in integrated entities in the face of fierce competition in the global market. Since, in order to improve the efficiency of functioning, integrated entities must purposefully and regularly carry out changes in both business processes and the organization of their implementation. The article uses such methods as: content analysis of scientific publications; a critical analysis of the available approaches to the definition and study of the problems under study; comparative analysis and synthesis. The methodological basis of the study was the works of foreign and Russian authors devoted to the concept of change management in economic systems of various levels. It has been substantiated that the development of integrated formations is due to many factors. This is influenced by changes in market trends, increased competition, improved forms of ownership, functions and management methods. In the course of the study, modern models of change management were analyzed, and the list of tools given in the article is certainly not exhaustive, but the work presents the most common approaches and models today. It should also be noted that there are no universal tools, and the effectiveness of their use directly depends on how the applied method corresponds to a specific situation and the characteristics of the organization. It has been determined that integrated entities planning organizational transformation, first of all, need to focus on economic trends and challenges posed by both the global market and modern realities. It was revealed that the top management of integrated education lacks the appropriate competencies and skills that could contribute to the successful implementation of innovations and changes. As a response to the described challenges, it is necessary to develop a toolkit that would represent a comprehensive solution for the development of flexible skills among company managers, which, firstly, would meet scientific forecasts and together would form a unique model of competencies, and secondly, would contribute to improving the efficiency of the change management process in organizations.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to focus on how entrepreneurs anticipate and change their company’s business process management after developing a radical innovation. The paper is based on a critical approach to business process modelling (BPM) that posits that – in spite of all the claims, guides and tools that companies employ to help them modelise their processes – business processes are developed and improved (or at least changed) by individuals who negotiate, anticipate and compromise to make these changes occur. Thus, BPM is more a matter of “bricolage” (Levi-Strauss) than an established and defined plan. Based on this position, the paper analyses how a business process model emerges in the early phases of a high-tech new venture when the entrepreneur lacks a valid template to form a conceptual representation of the firm’s business processes. Design/methodology/approach – The authors adopt a perspective based on the concept of bricolage. By analysing and comparing the discourse of 40 entrepreneurs – involved in an activity based on a radical innovation and 20 involved in an activity based on a more incremental concept – the authors are able to answer the two research questions. Findings – Entrepreneurs who develop a new activity based on any radical or incremental innovation generally base the BPM of their company and the evolution of this process on existing models. However, BPM generally differs based on the nature of the innovation. Thus, entrepreneurs who develop a new activity based on a radical innovation do not design a single BPM for their company but a portfolio of BPMs. The process by which such entrepreneurs develop such a portfolio is mainly conducted in a step-by-step and iterative approach that utilises “whatever is at hand” (Levi-Strauss, 1966). Originality/value – First, this study extends existing methods for and approaches to considering BPM. Second, this research partly answers the call for integration among different theoretical backgrounds and approaches that consider BPM.

Current practices of BPM suffer from the several fundamental problems, including difficulty with automatic discovery and the integration of business processes across organizations. Many studies uncovered that the main cause of these problems lies in insufficient semantics on business processes and suggested semantic business process management (SBPM) as a solution. Although building semantic business process space (SBPS) must be at the core of the SBPM approach to resolving the problems, most research on SBPM hardly deal with it seriously. Thus, this research shows how to build SBPS by incorporating semantics with business processes. The authors first illustrate the idea of building SBPS by defining a variety of generic and specific business process ontologies for the limited area of sales order process. They then explain how the SBPS satisfies the requirements for successful implementation of SBPM and demonstrate with a scenario how SBPM can be realized in the environment of SBPS for the agile and efficient BPM.
