A review of the genus Chrastoblatta Saussure et Zehntner, 1895 (Dictyoptera: Ectobiidae: Blattellinae)

This paper gives a review of the insufficiently studied genus Chrastoblatta Saussure et Zehntner, 1895. The genus Chrastoblatta was described from Madagascar (environs of Antananarivo) and includes two species: Ch. tricolor Saussure et Zehntner, 1895 and Ch. dimidiata (Saussure, 1863). This contribution is based on the study of a series of paralectotypes of Ch. tricolor and syntypes of Ch. dimidiata from The Muséum d’histoire naturelle in Geneva. Additional specimens of Ch. tricolor were found in the collection of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg. Detailed morphological description of the type species, Ch. tricolor, is given. Particular attention is paid to the structure of the male and female genitalia, which are described for the first time. Chrastoblatta dimidiata is briefly described due to insufficient and damaged material, but it is probably closely related to the type species. The genus Chrastoblatta is characterized by a peculiar structure of the wide and flat head, hind tibiae with concavity at the apex, a distinctly reduced 4th segment of the tarsi, an asymmetrical hypandrium, and robust, curved styli. The presence of not inverted genitalia suggests the placement of Chrastoblatta in the subfamily Blattellinae. At the present time, the differential diagnosis of the genus Chrastoblatta based on characters of the male and female genitalia cannot be compiled due to insufficient knowledge of other Madagascan ectobiid.

Three species of the genus Wockia Heinemann, 1870, which are so far known in Russia are reviewed; their male and female genitalia are illustrated, and a key for identification is provided. Two species, W. koreana Sohn, 2008, and W. magna Sohn, 2014, which were recently described from East Asia, are for the first time reported from Russia. The investigation of the holotype of W. funebrella Heinemann, 1870, discovered in the collection of the Zoological Institute RAS (St Petersburg), confirmed that this species is a junior subjective synonym of W. asperipunctella (Bruand, 1851). The distribution of Palaearctic species of the genus is discussed shortly.

The Prabhasa Moore, 1878 genus-group is reviewed. The male and female genitalia of Prabhasa venosa Moore, 1878, the type species of the genus, are described and illustrated for the first time. Two new genera, Macohasa Dubatolov, Volynkin & Kishida, gen. nov. and Chinasa Dubatolov, Volynkin & Kishida, gen. nov. and two new species, Macohasa cernyi Dubatolov, Volynkin & Kishida, sp. nov. and Chinasa sapa Dubatolov, Volynkin & Kishida, sp. nov. are described for Prabhasa venosa sensu authors. Seven new combinations are established: Zadadra plumbeomicans (Hampson, 1894), comb. nov., Zadadra monastyrskyi (Dubatolov, 2012), comb. nov., Macohasa orientalis (Hampson, 1905), comb. nov., Macohasa tetraspila (Černý, 2009), comb. nov., Macohasa dimorpha (Hampson, 1918), comb. nov., Chinasa costalis costalis (Moore, 1878), comb. nov. and Chinasa costalis bicoloriceps (Strand, 1916), comb. nov.

The Afrotropical planthopper genus Centromeriana Melichar, 1912 (Hemiptera, Fulgoromorpha, Dictyopharidae, Dictyopharinae, Orthopagini) is revised. Four species are included: C. jocosa (Gerstaecker, 1895) (the type species, with confirmed records from Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon), C. lindbergae sp. nov. (described from Sierra Leone), C. rhinoceros sp. nov. (described from Togo) and C. simplex Melichar, 1912 (so far only known from Equatorial Guinea, Bioko island). Lectotypes are designated for C. jocosa and C. simplex and both species are redescribed including habitus photographs and detailed illustrations of the male and female genitalia which are published for the first time. A key for identification of the species of Centromeriana is provided. As far as known, the genus is endemic to the (Guineo-)Congolian region of western Africa.

Heterobranch specimens of the genus Roxania collected during the Russian expedition (1894) aboard the Turkish steamship Selânik to the Sea of Marmara are found in the collection of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Saint Petersburg). One of the aims of the expedition was investigation of the fauna of the Sea of Marmara including its deepest zone to compare with the Black Sea. In 1896 A.A. Ostroumoff published a report on the expedition. Heterobranch mollusks of the genus Roxania are represented in our material by two lots from the first voyage of the expedition to the archipelago of the Prince Islands. The specimens were identified by K.O. Milaschewitsch as Roxania utriculus (Brocchi, 1814) and “Cryptaxis imperforatus n. sp.”, but a description of the last taxon has not been published. In this study, the specimens labeled by Milachewitch as Cryptaxis imperforatus n. sp. were identified as belonging to Roxania monterosatoi Dautzenberg et H. Fischer, 1896. The species is recorded for the Sea of Marmara for the first time; the description and illustrations of the species are presented. Most species of gastropod mollusks collected during the expedition including all samples of Roxania were represented by empty shells. Taxonomical value of the columella morphology in Roxania species is discussed. Based on this character the species of the genus can be divided into two groups: R. utriculus species group (mouth channeled) and R. monterosatoi species group (mouth without a channel). Morphological and molecular phylogenetic investigations are needed to clarify the status of these two groups.

ABSTRACT In order to solve the affinities of the species of Isotes Weise, 1922, a detailed morphological comparative study was carried out based on type-species of Isotes and its junior synonym,Synbrotica Bechyné, 1956. Isotes tetraspilota (Baly, 1865) and Isotes borrei (Baly, 1889) had their morphology of mouthparts, endosternites, wings and both male and female genitalia compared by the first time. A new synonymy is established between Isotes borrei (Baly, 1889) and Isotes crucigera (Weise, 1916) syn. nov. based on external and genitalia morphology. New structures for Section Diabroticites Chapuis, 1875 are presented and discussed.

The Philippine leafhopper genus Iposcopus Baker is redescribed. The male and female genitalia of I. breviceps and I. distanti are described and illustrated for the first time.        Baker (1915) established the genus Iposcopus and included two new species, I. breviceps and I. distanti (the type species) from the Philippines. Previously, only the external morphology and color have been described, not the genitalia. Here we first give a more complete description of the species, including male and female genitalia.

A second species of the genus Amazobenna Penny, 1980, Amazobenna pennyi sp. nov., is described from the Brazil. The new species can be distinguished from Amazobenna reticulata Penny, 1980, the type species of the genus, by the coloration of the body and wing and by the characters of the male genitalia. The description of male of Amazobenna reticulata is also provided and morphology of male and female genitalia of the genus is discussed for the first time.

The fourteen described South American species of Heilus (Curculionidae, Molytinae, Molytini, Hylobiina) are reviewed for the first time. Eleven species are redescribed based on specimens (almost exclusively from Brazil) examined by us: H. bistigma (Hustache, 1938), H. faldermanni (Boheman, 1836), H. fasciculatus (Boheman, 1843), H. freyreissi (Boheman, 1836), H. inaequalis (Boheman, 1836) [= type species of the genus], H. iniquus (Kirsch, 1874), H. myops (Boheman, 1836), H. ochrifer (Boheman, 1843), H. pupillatus (Olivier, 1790), H. rufescens (Boheman, 1836), and H. tuberculosus (Perty, 1832). Diagnoses of one additional Brazilian species, Heilus admixtus (Hustache, 1938), and two additional South American species, H. asperulus (Erichson, 1847), and H. inornatus (Kirsch, 1874), are presented based on the literature and by examination of images of the type material. Integument texture and the variations in the patterns of maculation are the main characteristics used for species identification. Geographic distribution, descriptions of male and female genitalia are provided for eleven redescribed species, together with habitus photographs, and an identification key to the fourteen described South American species.

The type species of the genus Planovalvata Dubatolov & Kishida, 2012, previously incorrectly identified as Eugoa roseivena Hampson, 1894, is described as new: Planovalvata confusa Volynkin, Dubatolov & Kishida, sp. nov. Taxonomic placement of the genera Planovalvata and Pseudomiltochrista Dubatolov & Bucsek, 2016 is clarified. The combination is revised: Stigmatophora roseivena (Hampson, 1894), comb. rev. Pseudomiltochrista is synonymized with Stigmatophora and downgraded to a subgenus level. One new combination is established: Stigmatophora (Pseudomiltochrista) zolotuhini (Dubatolov & Bucsek, 2016), comb. nov. Male and female genitalia of S. roseivena are illustrated and described for the first time.

Type species of three poorly known Arctiinae genera, Paraplastis Hampson, 1901, Migoplastis Felder, 1868 and Dondera Moore, 1877 are examined. All three taxa are transferred here from the subtribe Arctiina to the subtribe Nyctemerina of the tribe Arctiini. Paraplastis and Migoplastis (= Pachyphilonia Butler) are synonymized with the subgenus Deilemera Hübner, [1820] of the genus Nyctemera Hübner, [1820]. Dondera is synonymized with the subgenus Arctata Roepke, 1949 of the genus Nyctemera, and recognized as the older name for the subgenus. Three new combinations are established: Nyctemera (Deilemera) hampsoni (Swinhoe, 1889), comb. nov., Nyctemera (Deilemera) correcta (Walker, [1865]), comb. nov. and Nyctemera (Dondera) alba (Moore, 1877), comb. nov. The check-list of the subgenus Dondera is presented. Male and female genitalia of N. correcta and N. alba and female genitalia of N. hampsoni are described and illustrated for the first time.
