Building Information Modeling (BIM) has revolutionized the construction industry. Currently, it is impossible to imagine the industry without this fundamentally new approach to building design and working with documentation. The integration of design, construction, approval and monitoring processes through BIM is an effective way to improve the economic, environmental and other key performance indicators of construction companies, and thus increase their competitive advantages. However, it is too early to talk about the widespread transition of industry organizations to BIM. This article describes the advantages of information modeling technologies and the complexity of their implementation in the workflow.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has made a considerable impact on the construction industry and the way in which building design information can be accessed and interrogated. This impact is now being seen in the Schools of Architecture in the UK. Academia is beginning to see the feasibility and benefits of converting to such a new technology; will this inevitably start to filter into teaching BIM to architecture students? The concern by many in academia is that design will become secondary to pedagogy of building design. This viewpoint is based on the impact of CAD, where the art of hand drawing was feared lost forever. The use of computers in schools of architecture has become the norm, and the creative moving of a pen across paper has been replaced, to a degree, by the cursor across the CAD screen. As academia moved to respond to this change, the need to teach CAD became increasingly important. Therefore, will the paradigm shift of BIM require the inevitable move to a new approach in the design and construction of buildings? There are many misconceptions of BIM and the dilemma is that those teaching within the schools need to understand how BIM can readily interface with the design process and allow interrogation of the design are far earlier stages of the concept. Will academia ensure that BIM is used to enhance the creative process not hinder it?

Green building is rapidly transforming the design and construction industry around the globe. Simultaneously, a growing numbers of industry practitioners are taking the advantages of building information modeling (BIM) to upgrade the sustainable performance of green building. BIM tools encourage an integrated lifecycle green building management from design, construction, and prefabrication to operation and maintenance. This paper represents using BIM technology to achieve green building objectives and sustainable performances.


To provide contractual framework for Design-BidBuild (DBB) contract as reference for construction industry in Jordan, this paper aims to discuss the best contractual framework to adopt Building Information Modeling (BIM) under (DBB) approach in construction sector in Jordan. To achieve this aim, scope of comprehensive literature divided in two frameworks is explored. First, the construction sector in Jordan and the others is the building information modeling framework. In this research, a qualitative approach is employed, where 13 semi-structured meetings were implemented with the largest construction companies in Jordanian construction field. The main research' findings revealed that improvements in the DBB contract, adopting BIM officially in contract and improving stakeholders ' relationship are obtained. The study concluded that to adopt BIM process correctly, earlier participation of major stakeholders is essential to enhance the coordination grade, discovering early disputes and decreasing the redesign processes. In the construction field, the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology is becoming increasingly predominant and the standardization of its use is now an essential operation. This method has become widespread in recent years, thanks to the advantages provided in the framework of project management and interoperability. Hoping for its complete dissemination, it is unthinkable to use it only for new construction interventions. Many are experiencing what happens with the so-called Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM); that is, how BIM interfaces with Architectural Heritage or simply with historical buildings. This article aims to deal with the principles and working methodologies behind BIM/HBIM and modeling. The aim is to outline the themes on which to base a new approach to the instrument. In this way, it can be adapted to the needs and characteristics of each type of building. Going into the detail of standards, the text also contains a first study regarding the classification of moldable elements. This proposal is based on current regulations and it can provide flexible, expandable, and unambiguous language. Therefore, the content of the article focuses on a revision of the thinking underlying the process, also providing a more practical track on communication and interoperability.

The emerging of new Information Communication Technology (ICT) technology namely Building Information Modeling been proven benefits toward construction industry. As a result, the list of BIM software available in the market is keep increasing in recent years. This has led to the selection problem among construction companies. Moreover, the selection BIM software also required high investment in term of software, hard ware and training expenses. These aforementioned issues have increased the complexities of decision process and the need of decision aid in BIM software selection. Thus, this paper has introduced a new approach in MCDMDSS web development by utilization of Web 2.0 application. The rapid development of Information technology has highly benefit to the development of web based DSS. The design and validation architecture of a web base DSS called topsis4BIM for Building Information Modeling (BIM) is presented.

Improving the competitiveness of Russian industrial enterprises (including the construction industry) is a priority task at the current stage of development of the country’s economy. The purpose of this study is to develop methodological tools that would allow building strategic plans for the development of a construction company using a dynamic method for assessing its competitiveness. The hypothesis is that the target parameters of the development of a construction company, which take into account the influence of competitive factors, inevitably increase its level. This article provides an analytical review of existing methods for assessing the competitiveness of enterprises, identifies their advantages and disadvantages. The authors have chosen the dynamic approach to assessing the competitiveness of an enterprise; they propose certain aspects of its modernization, taking into account the specifics of construction production; the main indicators and algorithms used in this approach are presented. The competitiveness of the PIK group, Russia’s largest construction company, was evaluated in comparison with the Swedish development company Skanska Group, which is successful on the world market. The most problematic performance indicators of the Russian company that have a negative impact on its competitiveness are identified. Modeling of the dependence of the company’s competitiveness level on these indicators is performed. The results show that the key tool for eliminating these shortcomings can be the introduction of integrated information modeling based on big data for the entire development cycle: building information modeling — BIM (Building Information Modeling), augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies, and customer relationship management systems (CRM), among some others. The authors show how the key performance indicators of the company change after the introduction of integrated information modeling of the entire development cycle and what the forecast level of the company’s competitiveness can be expected at the end of 2020.

Bridge Information Modeling (BrIM) is considered an innovation in bridge engineering and construction industry. This paper presents a methodology for using BrIM as an assisting tool in performing detailed cost estimates. The methodology depends on integrating visualization feature of BrIM with specific attributes of the BrIM model intelligent components. A program developed using C# language is used to extract the visualization conclusions and other components’ attributes to MS Excel spreadsheet. This sheet assists in performing detailed cost estimate, and reviewing the estimate. The paper also presents a methodology for generating cash flow and required payments. This methodology depends on integrating the developed program with 4D feature of BrIM.

The application of Building Information Modeling has become a trend in construction industry, it is our duty to accelerate BIM application in recent years. Firstly, the paper generally introduced the concepts and characteristics of BIM, and pointed out the problems that existed in Chinas Project Management of Construction Enterprises, and theoretically, technically discussed the solutions to these issues with BIM technology in a qualitative way. At last, the paper proposed some suggestions and outlooks for the development and promotion of BIM technology in China.

Since the expression "Building Information Modeling" (BIM) was initially presented in the Engineering and Construction AEC industry in the most recent decade; it has changed numerous parts of the design, construction, and operation of a building. BIM is a middleware connector that represents the advancement and utilization of PC. BIM has various frameworks which have been conducted by the pioneers in the BIM industry to enhance the BIM process. There is a study of the reflection of those frameworks on the Egyptian AEC industry to overcome the threats that prevent Egypt from applying BIM technology more broadly. In addition, a comparison is conducted between the successful countries which implemented BIM in their projects and managed to enhance their adoption by examining the local challenges and targets. The countries then made strategies and standards to overcome the aforementioned obstacles. Furthermore, successful actions were applied that can match with the Egyptian industrial requirements. This paper is expected to define the challenges which are facing the Egyptian industry to apply BIM and the potential capabilities of solving those problems. To acquire the vital information to carry on this paper, a questionnaire was created and distributed in the AEC community. The reason for the study was to see how experts consider BIM as a device in the fields of design and construction in general and in the Egyptian industry particularly. The aim of this paper is to propose a framework through several case studies which are discussed, analyzed and compared. The purpose of the analysis is to explore the importance of using BIM. Additionally, exploring the effect of different parameters on implementing BIM helped significantly during the process. It starts with proposing its framework with evaluating matrix that contains attributes to measure its success, moreover, it serves as a great help to the Egyptian companies that make real business decisions about enhancing BIM implementation through this framework.
