Authors of this report describe a Fukushima Type D(b) or Kawase Type ME2 trigeminal schwannoma involving the right maxillary division in a 59-year-old woman who presented with intermittent right-sided facial numbness and pain. This tumor was successfully resected via a right lateral orbitotomy without the need for craniotomy. This novel approach to a lesion of this type has not yet been described in the scientific literature. The outcome in this case was good, and the patient's intra- and postoperative courses proceeded without complication. The epidemiology of trigeminal schwannomas and some technical aspects of lateral orbitotomy, including potential advantages of this approach over traditional transcranial as well as fully endoscopic dissections in appropriately selected cases, are also briefly discussed.

AbstractThis study presents a bilateral variation in the formation of trunks of brachial plexus in a male cadaver. The right brachial plexus was composed of six roots (C4-T1) and the left brachial plexus of five roots (C5-T1). Both formed four trunks thus changing the contributions of the anterior divisions of the cervical nerves involved in the formation of the cords and the five main somatic motor nerves for the upper limb. There are very few case reports in the scientific literature on this topic; thus making the present study very relevant.

Herein we present a case of crossed renal ectopia with an unusual type of fusion, discovered incidentally in a 11-year-old girl presented with recurrent urinary tract infections. Both kidneys were located on the right side of the body fused in their upper poles only, forming an inverted U shape. After reviewing the published data on this topic, we found that most of the described anomalies were within the six well-known types of fusion anomalies. This child had an unusual clinical presentation of severe hydronephrosis of the orthotopic kidney. A unique surgical technique to correct the pathology to be able to preserve the residual mass of that kidney was performed.

Kaposi sarcoma is a tumour caused by human herpes virus 8, also known as Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpes virus. It usually affects the skin and oral mucosa; however, it can also sometimes affect the lungs, the liver, the stomach, the bowel, and lymph nodes. Several body sites may be affected simultaneously. The involvement of the tonsils is rare. We described an isolated localization of Kaposi’s sarcoma of the right tonsil in a HIV-positive patient.

Cavernoma is benign tumour of the orbit. It results in proptosis, visual disturbance, diplopia and ptosis of the eye. It is amenable to surgery and this results in complete after surgical removal without recurrence. We report a case of right orbital cavernoma in a female, who presented with non-pulsatile painless proptosis, slight ptosis and double vision while looking at the right side. Her MRI revealed that she had a cavernoma of the right orbit. She was operated by the lateral orbitotomy. This easily removed the tumour, cosmetically acceptable and she became symptom free. Bang. Abstract Trigeminal schwannoma is the second commonest intracranial schwannoma; they remain rare. A minority exhibit cystic changes, with even fewer an intracystic fluid level. We report a case of a 45-year-old man, presented with a progressive hearing loss, worsening right-sided facial spasms and facial numbness in the region of the right trigeminal nerve. Neurological examination revealed hypoesthesia in the right facial region and intermittent rights sided hemi-facial spasms, without signs of raised intracranial pressure or achieve the mixed nerves or neurological deficit. A Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed a cystic mass in the right cerebello-pontine angle with extension forward towards the cavum meckel. The patient was operated by retro sigmoid approach, with a total resection of the tumor. Intracranial cystic schwannomas constitute an uncommon subset of tumors with a distinct clinico-biological behavior. The presence of fluid–fluid levels within the tumors, although rare, confirms the cystic nature of the neoplasms. Cystic areas are usually secondary to the coalescence of mucinous or microcystic regions in Antoni B tissues. The treatment is surgical in the majority of cases and stereotactic radiosurgery has a clear role for adjuvant treatment of post-surgical recurrence of the tumor or residue.

Popliteal artery thrombosis may present as a complication of an osteochondroma located in the vicinity of the knee joint. This is a case report of a 26-year-old man with symptoms of the right lower extremity ischaemia without a previous history of vascular disease or trauma. Plain radiography, magnetic resonance angiography and Doppler ultrasonography documented the presence of an osteochondrous structure of the proximal tibial metaphysis, which displaced and compressed the popliteal artery, causing its occlusion due to intraluminal thrombosis..The patient was operated and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of osteochondroma.

Methodological and technical aspects as well as application and results of the precordial Xenon-residue-detection technique are critically reviewed. The results concern mainly normal flow in various regions of the heart esp. in the free wall of the right and left ventricle, poststenotic flow in patients with coronary artery disease in relation to the degree of proximal nar-rowings as well as wall motion of the corresponding LV segment, bypassgraft flow and flow after drug interventions esp. nitrates, betablockers, the calcium-antagonist Nifedipine and the coronary dilator Dipyridamole. In spite of its serious limitations (high affinity of Xenon for fatty tissue, geometrical problems in the assessment of flow and its relation to anatomy, gas exchange in situations of high flow etc.), the technique is found to be a usefull investigatory tool. Due to its technical display and the related high costs routine application is, however, prohibitive.
