Abstract Background Urogenital small foreign bodies (FBs) have rarely been reported in children, and their management is still challenging. This study aimed to describe the characteristics and treatment of spherical FBs no larger than 0.6 cm in the children’s genitourinary tracts.  Methods The clinical data of spherical FBs removed in our hospital from June 2013 to June 2020 were recorded and retrospectively analyzed, including demographics, location, symptoms, imaging examinations and treatment methods. Results A total of 10 patients were enrolled: 6 girls and 4 boys. Their ages ranged from 5.1 to 16.8 years old, with a mean age of 9.2 years. The course of the disease ranged from 3 h to 1 year, and symptoms recurred in some cases. Their imaging characteristics were reviewed and analyzed, 6 patients underwent color Doppler ultrasonography, 1 patient was suspected to have an FB in the vagina, 7 patients underwent an X-ray examination, and FBs were revealed in 6 patients. All FBs were removed under endoscopic minimally invasive surgery. Six vaginal FBs were successfully retrieved via vaginoscopy, and in the other four cases, removal by transurethral cystoscopy failed because of mutual attraction, which was eliminated by laparoscopy under pneumovesicum. Postoperative recovery was uneventful; in a follow-up of 3 months to 2 years, there was no perforation or fistula formation, and there were no urethral strictures in boys. Conclusion Small spherical FBs are clinically rare; they are sometimes difficult to detect by imaging examinations and can be easily overlooked. Minimally invasive endoscopy remains the first-line approach for the diagnosis and removal of genitourinary spherical FBs.

Introduction. Currently, dentists are increasingly detecting changes in the temporomandibular joint in patients with chronic inflammatory periodontal disease.Aim of the study. To carry out a comprehensive dynamic assessment of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) condition and the registration of regional blood flow using two-dimensional ultrasound scanning to improve the efficiency of diagnostics of inflammatory periodontal diseases.Materials and methods. The study included 2 groups of patients: group 1 (control) consisted of 20 volunteers aged 20–25; Group 2 consisted of 52 people aged 25–45 years with moderate chronic periodontitis. For TMJ ultrasound and Doppler ultrasound, a portable ultrasound scanner LogicScan  128 with an HL-10  linear ultrasound transducer  with an operating frequency of 5     to 12 MHz was used.Results and discussion. During ultrasound examination of the temporomandibular joint and measuring the size of the joint space in patients with moderate chronic periodontitis in a state of relative physiological rest, the following  values were obtained:   in the anterior region – 2.3 ± 0.5 mm; in the upper section – 1.6 ± 0.6 mm; in the posterior section – 1.8 ± 0.3 mm. We also measured the area of the temporomandibular joint disc in various positions. According to ultrasound data, an increase in the size of the joint space from 12.2 to 16.1% and an increase in the area of the articular disc by 17.1 to 36.7% were found in patients with chronic periodontitis. When assessing the trajectory of the articular track, motion delay and joint wedging are determined. In addition, in the color Doppler mapping (CDM) mode, the speed and index indicators of Doppler ultrasonography of the external carotid and temporal arteries were calculated.Conclusions. Modern diagnostic methods of ultrasound and Doppler mapping, assessing the hemodynamics and functional state of the TMJ, allow early diagnosis of changes in order to prevent the development of TMJ disorders in patients with chronic inflammatory periodontal diseases.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between ovarian blood flow, folliculogenesis and sex-steroid production during normal menstrual cycle and in women with ovarian failure. Ten healthy women and 40 patients with ovarian failure underwent hormonal assays (follicle-stimulating, luteinizing hormones, estradiol, progesterone, prolactine, testosterone) and ultrasound examination of the uterus and ovaries with color Doppler ultrasonography of the uterine and ovarian vessels on the 3 -5th, 11- 13th, 17- 19th and 21 -23rd days оf menstrual cycle. Intraovarian blood flow of the ovary carrying the predominant follicle in healthy women appeared more active than in conrdlateral ovary on the 3-5th days of the cycle. Inpatients with ovarian failure no difference was detected between the ovaries during the periods in question. Ovarian and uterine blood flow inpatients with the ovarian failure was less intensive comparingwith healthy women. Positive correlation between uterine blood flow and estradiol concentration in serum was revealed.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the importance of ischemia changed albumin, in foreseeing fetal asphyxia and comparing it between normal and preeclamptic pregnant. Method: We planned our study as a prospective case-controlled study between May 2011 and June 2013. We recruited 104 pregnant women complicated by preeclampsia and 110 healthy pregnant women in the study. Doppler ultrasonography, non-stress test and fetal biometric measurements were performed. Venous blood samples taken to measure ischemia modified albumin (IMA). The presence of fetal hypoxia/acidosis was analyzed by conducting post-natal cord blood gas examination and 1.-5. minutes APGAR scoring. Results: Women with preeclampsia had higher IMA compared to controls. The correlations between umbilical artery doppler systolic/diastolic (S/D) ratio, brain sparing effect, non stress test and IMA analyzed. We have found IMA statistically high when S/D ratio is above 2 standard deviations (preeclampsia; 11.83±1.33 vs 19.62±1.56 p<0.001, control; 10.28±1.57 vs 18.09±2.13 p<0.001) or brain sparing effect started (preeclampsia; 25.59±2.48 vs 9.16±1.99 p<0.001, control; 16.37±1.97 vs 6.72± 1.53 p<0.001) or abnormal NST findings occurred (preeclampsia; 10.69±1.92 vs 20.72±1.15 p<0.001, control; 7,42±1,94 vs 9,72±2,19 p<0.001). Conclusions: Maternal IMA levels are found high in preeclamptic pregnant women and it can be used as a biomarker for determining fetal wellbeing.
