ABSTRACT In 2015, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued an Exposure Draft (ED) as part of its first significant project in over 20 years on financial reporting by Not-for-Profit organizations (NFP). In this study, we categorize the 264 letters received on the ED by the type of respondent and analyze the responses using ANOVA, multiple comparisons tests, and multidimensional scaling. Ultimately, as Phase 1 of its NFP project, FASB issued accounting standards update (ASU) 2016-14 containing proposed changes supported by a majority of the respondents to the ED. The Board deferred recommended changes with less support from respondents to Phase 2 of the project. Although constituents often accuse accounting standard setters of standards-overload and for being unresponsive to their comments (Herz 2003), our findings indicate otherwise. In Aceh, Indonesia, zakat is included as a locally-generated revenue (Pendapatan Asli Daerah – PAD) and it is managed by a government body called Baitul Mal. As a government institution, Baitul Mal is obligated to present financial statements according to Government Accounting Standards (Standar Akuntansi Pemerintah - SAP). This article reports the findings of the accounting treatment for zakat financial statements in Baitul Mal Aceh. Baitul Mal Aceh as the government zakat institution is annually required to disclose two different financial statements, both financial statements based on Government Accounting Standards (SAP) and based on a statement of financial accounting standards 109 (PSAK 109). Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the compliance of Baitul Mal Aceh with SAP dan PSAK 109 in zakat financial reporting. This research is a descriptive study from the data obtained through field study. The results showed that Baitul Mal Aceh has implemented both SAP and PSAK 109 in presenting the financial statements regardless of some items that might not be in accordance with the standards. In financial statements based on SAP, a variance was found in the presentation of information related to the procurement of assets and the details of the depreciation. As for the financial statements based on PSAK 109, it has been presented from 2012 to 2017. From the available data, there are some differences in the disclosure compared to PSAK 109. Amil funds and non-halal funds were not disclosed in the balance sheet as well as there was no statement of changes in assets under management. Moreover, these financial statements were not presented in the last two years due to limited supporting facilities/devices and human resources.========================================================================================================Zakat sebagai Pendapatan Asli Daerah: Perlakuan Akuntansinya pada Baitul Mal Aceh.

ABSTRACT This instructional case requires students to provide advice to a client who is currently the sole owner of a for-profit company that reconditions and sells used electronics. The client is considering purchasing a similar company with the vision of expanding into the sales and service of emerging technologies. The target company's unaudited financial statements contain questionable accounting choices and judgments that appear to enable the company to meet external financial reporting constraints. In their role as financial advisers, students are expected to use critical thinking skills to identify and evaluate questionable choices in the target company's financial statements. This case is suitable for use in introductory and intermediate financial accounting as well as introductory auditing and assurance courses, and can be used as a context for in-class discussion, as a basis for exam questions, and/or as a writing assignment. Assessment rubrics and Teaching Notes accompany the case for use by instructors.

Het oorspronkelijke Framework for the preparation and presentation of financial statements (framework 1989) was aan een fundamentele herziening toe.
