‘Adirondack Blue’ is a potato variety commonly grown for the specialty potato market. It was selected from progeny of a cross between N40-1 and NY96 and tested under the pedigree S45-5 by Cornell University and released in 2003. Tuber production and quality results provided in this spotlight are summarized from variety trials conducted at the UF/IFAS Hastings Agricultural and Extension Center from 2011 to 2019. ‘Fabula’ is a potato variety that is commonly grown for the fresh potato market. The variety was selected from progeny of a cross between ‘Monalisa’ and ‘Hudson’. It was released in 2005 by D. Biedmond B.V. of the HZPC in the Netherlands. In Florida, ‘Fabula’ demonstrates good tuber characteristics and high yield superior to its commercial standard ‘LaChipper’. Tuber production and quality results  are summarized from various trials conducted by the UF/IFAS Hastings Agricultural and Extension Center from 2001 to 2016.This is a minor revision with a new author added. ‘Marcy’ is a white-flesh and white-skinned fresh-market potato variety released from the Cornell University Potato Breeding program in 1990. The cultivar was selected from a cross between ‘Atlantic’ and Q155-3 (De Jong et al. 2006). In trials conducted at the University of Florida, ‘Marcy’ demonstrated high yield and good tuber characteristics compared to its matched commercial standards, ‘Atlantic’ and ‘La Chipper’. After its release, ‘Marcy’ has been cultivated in several trials in Florida. Production and quality results provided here are from variety trials conducted by the University of Florida Hastings Agricultural and Extension Center in 2002 and from 2011 to 2019. ‘Snowden’ is a potato variety that is commonly grown for the potato chip market. It was selected from a cross of ‘Le-nape’ and ‘Wischip’ by Dr. Stan Peloquin and Mr. Donald Kichefski at the University of Wisconsin. It was named and released in 1990 from the University of Wisconsin’s Lelah Starks Potato Breeding Farm in Rhinelander, WI. Tuber production and quality results are summarized from various variety trials conducted by the University of Florida’s Hastings Agricultural and Extension Center from 1998 to 2019. ‘LaChipper’ is a potato variety that is commonly grown for the fresh potato market in Florida. Under different growing conditions ‘LaChipper’ is suited for chip processing. It was selected from progeny of a cross between ‘Green Mountain’ and ‘Cayuga’ and tested under the pedigree L91-78. It was released by the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, Baton Rouge, LA in October of 1962. ‘LaChipper’ demonstrates high yield and good tuber characteristics compared to the commercial standard ‘Atlantic’. Tuber production and quality results provided in this spotlight are from Florida Potato Variety Trials conducted at the UF/IFAS Hastings Agricultural Extension Center between 1998 and 2016.

‘Goldrush’ is a russet potato variety commonly grown for the fresh potato market particularly for baking and boiling. It was selected from the progeny of a cross between ND450-3Russ and Lemhi Russet at North Dakota State University (Johansen et al. 1993). It was released in 1992 from the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. ‘Goldrush’ demonstrates high yield and good tuber characteristics compared to its commercial standard ‘Atlantic’. ‘Yukon Gold’ is a fresh market potato variety selected from the progeny of a cross between W5279-4 and ‘Norgleam’ and tested under the pedigree G6666-4Y. It was released jointly by Agriculture Canada and Ontario Agricultural College, University of Guelph, Canada in 1981. In Florida, ‘Yukon Gold’ demonstrates high yield and good tuber characteristics compared to the commercial standard ‘La Chipper’. Tuber production and quality results provided in this publication are from Florida Potato Variety Trials conducted at the UF/IFAS Hastings Agricultural Extension Center between 1999 and 2019.

‘French Fingerling’ is a fresh potato variety that is commonly grown for the specialty potato market. Formerly known as ‘Roseval’. The cultivar was selected from a progeny of a cross between ‘Vale’ and ‘Rosa’. It was released in 1950 by SICA Bretagne Plants, a member of the National Federation of Producers of Potato Plants in France. ‘French Fingerling’ demonstrated adaptability to Florida growing conditions by producing high yield and good tuber characteristics. Tuber production and quality results provided in this spotlight are from the Florida Potato Variety Trials conducted at UF/ IFAS Hastings Agricultural Extension Center between 2010 and 2018.

‘Atlantic’ is a white-skinned potato, being the standard variety for chiping commonly cultivated in Florida (Figure 1). The cultivar was released as a white mutant of the USDA breeding program. It was selected from a cross of Wauseon and Lenape (UDSA seedling B5141-6). ‘Atlantic’ was released in July 1976 by the Agricultural Research Service of the USDA, the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, the Virginia Truck and Ornamentals Research Station, the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Maine Agricultural Experiment Station (Webb et al. 1978). ‘Elkton’ is a white-flesh potato variety suitable for chipping directly from the field (Figures 1 and 2). ‘Elkton’ was selected from the USDA-ARS breeding program in Beltsville, Maryland, by Dr. Haynes in 1997. In 2003, seed of ‘Elkton’ was made available for field evaluation under Florida growing conditions. In 60 trials conducted between 2003 and 2018, ‘Elkton’ yielded 112% in comparison with ‘Atlantic’ (Table 1). In these trials, ‘Elkton’ demonstrated resistance to internal heat necrosis and hollow heart, which are common tuber physiological disorders under high temperature growing conditions.https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/hs1237 This is a minor revision.
