Pasar Modern Plaju is a modern market, which was relocated from the traditional market Pasar Plaju so that there is a change in management of the market. Vegetables are the most widely sold commodity in the market, one of which is potatoes. Potatoes harvested area and production in South Sumatra had fluctuated in the past five years. Producer and consumer prices also fluctuated but have positive trends. Changes in market management and potato prices are always fluctuating, which would affect the market structure. The study aimed at determining the buying and selling activities and the structure of the potato market in Pasar Modern Plaju. The data came from 10 potato retailers. The data collected is daily data from buying and selling activities during January 2020 and was analyzed quantitatively. The analysis used was market concentration ratio (CR) and HHI (Herfindal-Hirschman Index). The result showed the diluent traders bought potatoes from a collector at a maximum of 600 kg per purchase, did not do grading, and the payment system was in cash. The market concentration ratio showed 59,18% CR4 and 93,27% CR8 was indicated that the structure of the potato market in Pasar Modern Plaju was oligopsony. HHI value 1.313 also showed that the potatoes market structure trend to word oligopsony market. These findings imply that the structure market can be influenced by the type of market.

One of the leading potato-producing areas of Indonesia is the Batur sub-district in Banjarnegara, Central Java. The Batur sub-district has potential for potato cultivation and business. However, most farmers in this area still follow the wholesaler's price. According to farmers, they must obey the policies of wholesalers after they get credit from wholesalers through collectors. Moreover, farmers can also not know the potato market with certainty due to the limited mastery of market information, especially prices and added value to various actors in the potato supply chain. This study aims to: (i) describe how the potatoes supply chain in Batur, Banjarnegara; furthermore, the comparison of potato prices and value-added by distribution channel, (ii) discuss and analyze the causes of differences in potato market prices and value-added in distribution channels, (iii) recommend the appropriate potato distribution strategy. The data required include secondary and primary data. Secondary data were obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Department of Agriculture. Meanwhile, primary data was obtained through a questionnaire from 20 potato farmers and traders from Wonoyoso, Sumberejo, Batur, and Grogol villages. Interviews were conducted with six potato farmer groups. The results showed that potato farmers were weak compared to other potato supply chain actors such as wholesalers, collectors, wholesale market traders in other provinces, retailers, MSMEs, factories, and exporters. The dependence of farmers on local wholesalers is quite substantial because wholesalers control potatoes' marketing network from upstream to downstream. The study recommendations are restructuring and improving cooperation performance and providing business loans with lower interest rates and fast processing. The Agro Cooperative will shorten the potato distribution channels and provides potato farmers with important information such as market information and business conditions.

Abstract This study was aimed to analysis potato market participation, market surplus and market outlet choice in Lemo woreda of Hadiya zone southern Ethiopia. In this study, primary and secondary data source were employed. Data were obtained from a sample of 202 farm household. To take 202 sample farm household simple random sampling techniques were used. For data analysis, Heckman second stage and multivariate probit models were employed to identify factors that determine potato market participation decision and potato sale volume of the farm households, and potato farmer market outlet choice respectively. The Heckman's first stages (probit) indicates that education level, sex, membership in the cooperative, distance to the nearest market, remittent from family members, own transportation facilities, seed types, frequency of extension contact, lagged market price and amount of credit that farm household used for potato production determine potato market participation. Heckman the second stage (OLS) result shows that education level, cooperative membership, family size, total cropland, oxen owned, types of seed, and lagged market price were significantly determine potato marketed surplus. On the other side; the multivariate probit results showed that the probability of choosing wholesalers, retailers, collectors, and consumers market outlet choice significantly affected by age, educational level, sex, farm experiences, distance to near market, family size, remittance, land size, product supplied to the market, own transport facility and extension service. Based on the findings of the study, we recommend that the government and concerned stakeholders should focus on promoting improved potato seed, encouraging education, promoting farmers’ cooperatives, empowering females, strengthening rural-urban infrastructure, and protecting informal labor trading.

Studying the competitiveness of potato production in the Komi Republic is important for a deeper understanding of ways to ensure a stable financial state of the region's agriculture and an uninterrupted supply of local food to the population of the region. Purpose of the article: identification of the strengths and weaknesses of potato production in the Komi Republic, determination of market opportunities for the development of potato growing as a branch of specialization of agriculture in the region. Research hypothesis: there are four types of suppliers (agricultural organizations, farmers, personal subsidiary plots, importers) and five types of consumers (retail market, education and health care, public catering, wholesale trade, export) in the potato market of the Komi Republic. Market equilibrium is determined by the choice of win-win strategies by market participants. The article analyzes the main groups of potato producers in the Komi Republic, identifies the main groups of relations between them. A SWOT-analysis of potato production in the region was made. The main trends in the potato market in the Komi Republic are formulated. A decrease in consumption of fresh potatoes determines the development of its processing in the region and to complement the animal husbandry, logging etc. with potato growing. The authors recommend improving and creating new types of products and medicinal plants in the region for integration with potato growing. The article shows that in the potato market of the Komi Republic relations of cluster interaction, market division, mutual displacement, creation of value chains, strengthening of interaction and coordination on the part of local municipal and regional governments are formed. The practice of organic technologies and the brand of local products have a positive effect on the competitiveness of potatoes produced in the Komi Republic. The scope of the research results: state authorities and administrations of the Komi Republic, enterprises and organizations that sell and buy potatoes on the market of the Komi Republic.

‘Fabula’ is a potato variety that is commonly grown for the fresh potato market. The variety was selected from progeny of a cross between ‘Monalisa’ and ‘Hudson’. It was released in 2005 by D. Biedmond B.V. of the HZPC in the Netherlands. In Florida, ‘Fabula’ demonstrates good tuber characteristics and high yield superior to its commercial standard ‘LaChipper’. Tuber production and quality results  are summarized from various trials conducted by the UF/IFAS Hastings Agricultural and Extension Center from 2001 to 2016.This is a minor revision with a new author added. Potato is an important commodity for livelihood in many parts of Ethiopia. Potato producers in Ethiopia face sophisticated marketing challenges, including inadequate access to market and low amount of marketed surpluses due to subsistence-oriented production of potato. The study aimed to identify factors that determine the market participation and its extents. About 136 potato producers were selected randomly from peasant association found in Dedo Districts of Ethiopia. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected from primary sources. Descriptive and econometric methods of data analysis were used to analyze data from the survey. A double hurdle model was applied to investigate factors affecting market participation and its extents. Results of descriptive statistics revealed that out of the total sample producer, 87.5 % of sample household has participated in the potato market. Age, sex, education, land size allocated for potato, and non-farm income were significantly influencing potato market participation. Age, sex, education (years of schooling), non-farm income, active labor and land allocated for potato influenced smallholder farmers level of market participation.

‘Adirondack Blue’ is a potato variety commonly grown for the specialty potato market. It was selected from progeny of a cross between N40-1 and NY96 and tested under the pedigree S45-5 by Cornell University and released in 2003. Tuber production and quality results provided in this spotlight are summarized from variety trials conducted at the UF/IFAS Hastings Agricultural and Extension Center from 2011 to 2019.
