Background: Evidence-based nursing care guidelines are important tools for increasing the quality of nurses’ clinical work. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of implementing evidence-based nursing care guidelines on the quality of care of patients admitted to the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Units (NICUs). Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study on 54 nurses in NICUs of hospitals affiliated to Qazvin University of Medical Sciences selected using a convenience sampling technique and divided into two groups of intervention and control. The intervention included the teaching of evidence-based nursing guidelines and their implementation by the nurses. Before and two months after the intervention, the demographic characteristics and the quality of nurses’ patient care in both groups was evaluated by using a demographic form and a standard checklist with 37 items designed based on the standards of practice for All Registered Nurses (ANA). Data were analyzed in SPSS software using descriptive statistics (Mean±SD), and paired t-test, independent t-test and chi-square test. Findings: The mean score of nursing care quality in the two groups was not significantly different before intervention (P>0.05). After intervention, the mean score was 25.11±6.2 in the intervention group and 20.29±5.3 in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Implementation of evidence-based nursing care guidelines can improve the quality of nursing care. Therefore, it is recommended that the teaching of evidence-based nursing care guidelines should be on the agenda of the hospitals’ education unit and related departments.

Background and objective: The new trend that widely accepted in health care institutions is to implement an evidence-based practice. Health facilities frequently integrate standards of practice that reveal current best evidence to increase patients’ outcomes and consequently decrease hospital cost. Transfusion of blood is a cornerstone in managing many critically ill children. However, nurses have a chief role in transfusing blood and their knowledge and performance are important for them to transfuse blood safely and efficiently. Aim: Evaluate the effectiveness of implementing evidence based nursing practices guidelines on quality of nursing care and patients' safety as regards blood transfusion to improve transfusion practices and ensure safety.Methods: A quasi-experimental design. Settings: This study was conducted at Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, Medical and Surgical Wards, Hematology/Oncology Units in Children Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. Sample: A convenience sample composed of 95 pediatric nurses, whom were willingness to participate in the study and 78 children whom were receiving blood transfusion. Tools: I. A Self-Administered Questionnaire Sheet to assess nurses’ knowledge regarding blood transfusion; II. Child’s Medical Record to collect data about child’s health status; III. An Observational Competence Checklist to assess the quality of actual nurses’ practices about Blood Transfusion; and IV. Evidence Based Nursing Practices Guidelines of Blood Transfusion that was described the EBNP guidelines that provide a standardized approach for transfusion (before and after).Results: The studied nurses’ knowledge and practices regarding to blood transfusion were improved and reflected a highly significant differences before and after guidelines implementation.Conclusions: The present study concluded that studied nurses showed an improvement in their knowledge and practices regarding blood transfusion after implementation of evidence based nursing practices guidelines. Recommendation: It is essential that all nurses who administer blood transfusion for children should complete periodic in-services training programs to keep them up to date regarding to safe and efficient administration of blood transfusion.

Background and aims: To know that how emotional intelligence and general health are related, can play a crucial role in the quality of nurses’ performance. The present study was conducted to compare the relationship of emotional intelligence and general health in nurses of intensive care units with other units in Qazvin city, Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among nurses working in hospitals of Qazvin in 2018. To this end, 250 nurses were selected by random sampling. Data collection tool was Goldberg General Health Standard Questionnaire (GHQ) and Shearing’s Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (EIQ). Data were analyzed by SPSS statistical software version 18.0 using the statistical tests of Pearson correlation, t test, ANOVA, chi-square, and liner regression. A P value less than 0.05 was also considered statistically significant. Results: The mean score of general health was 21.33 ± 10 and the mean score of emotional intelligence was 122.8 ± 11.5. The findings showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and general health and all general health components (P <0.05). Level of depression in Intensive Care Unit was higher than that in other units (P <0.05). Moreover, according to linear regression coefficient, there was a statistically significant association between general health and emotional intelligence (P <0.05), to such a degree that increasing emotional intelligence caused an increase in general health. This model identified 5.6% of health variance, emotional intelligence, and body mass index (BMI) variables as predictive variables. Conclusion: Considering the fact that nursing is a stressful profession, attention to emotional intelligence is very effective and valuable in improving mental health and as a result, in reducing job stress, increasing the quality of nursing care, reducing burnout, and ultimately increasing patient satisfaction from nursing care.

BACKGROUND The integration of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) into the nursing care plan and documentation systems aims to translate evidence into practice, improve safety and quality of care, and standardize care processes. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate nurses’ perceptions of the usability of a nursing care plan solution that includes 234 CPGs. METHODS A total of 100 nurses from 4 adult intensive care units (ICUs) responded to a survey measuring nurses’ perceptions of system usability. The survey included 37 rated items and 3 open-ended questions. RESULTS Nurses’ perceptions were favorable with more than 60.0% (60/100) in agreement on 12 features of the system and negative to moderate with 20.0% (20/100), to 59.0% (59/100) in agreement on 19 features. The majority of the nurses (80/100, 80.0% to 90/100, 90.0%) agreed on 4 missing safety features within the system. More than half of the nurses believed they would benefit from refresher classes on system use. Overall satisfaction with the system was just above average (54/100, 54.0%). Common positive themes from the narrative data were related to the system serving as a reminder for complete documentation and individualizing patient care. Common negative aspects were related to duplicate charting, difficulty locating CPGs, missing unit-specific CPGs, irrelevancy of information, and lack of perceived system value on patient outcomes. No relationship was found between years of system use or ICU experience and satisfaction with the system (P=.10 to P=.25). CONCLUSIONS Care plan systems in ICUs should be easy to navigate; support efficient documentation; present relevant, unit-specific, and easy-to-find information; endorse interdisciplinary communication; and improve safety and quality of care.

Background: Chronic Obstruction Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is disease characterized by obstruction air flow in the breath not wholly reversible. One treatment can be done on improving exercise tolerance is exercise respiration as pursed lip breathing ( PLB ). Purse lip breathing is a techniques of breathing carried out to expelling air by creating power through  in move closer /pursed lips. Purpose: provide an illustration of the application of the practice of evidence based nursing of pursed lip breathing in patients COPD in RSUP Persahabatan Jakarta. Method:  the implementation of the practice of evidence based nursing pursed lip breathing is applied to 12 people sample ( 10 men and 2 women ) diagnosed with COPD exacerbation. Result: the majority of sex respondents is man as many as 10 ( 83,3 % ) persons and women as many as 2 ( 16,7 % ) a person .mean the age of respondents is 61,5 years ± 10.4 .mean the value of PEF ( Peak Expiratory Flow ), the value of the saturation oxygen , the value of respiratori rate before the intervention in a consecutive manner is 131.6 ±  44.6; 92.1 ± 2.44; 31.5 ±  2 . While value after the intervention is 175.0 ±  60.0; 97,1 ± 1.6; 22,6 ± 1.7 with P value = 0.001, α = 0.05. Conclusions: there are significant influence the application of pursed lip breathing between before and after the intervention in patients COPD. Advice: Intervention evidence based nursing can be applied to all patients COPD so reached the quality of care of nursing based on research

Background and Purpose: Quality of nursing care measurement is essential in critical care units. The aim of this study was to develop a scale to measure the quality of nursing care in intensive care units (ICUs). Methods: The 68 items of nursing care standards in critical care settings were explored in a literature review. Then, 30 experts evaluated the items’ content validity index (CVI) and content validity ratio (CVR). Items with a low CVI score (<0.78) and low CVR score (<0.33) were removed from the scale. Results: The 50 items remained in the scale. The Scale level-CVI and Scale level-CVR were 0.898 and 0.725, respectively. Conclusion: The nursing care scale in ICU (Quality of Nursing Care Scale-ICU) that was developed in this research had acceptable CVI and CVR.
