Objective: to understand Family Health Strategy nurses’ perceptions on counseling and rapid testing for sexually transmitted infections. Methods: this is a qualitative study, with data triangulation. Data collection was conducted through a semi-structured interview with seven nurses from Family Health Strategy. For systematization and data processing, content analysis was adopted in the thematic modality. Results: after analysis, four categories emerged: Rapid test training; Counseling conduction; Ease in rapid testing offer; and Challenges offering rapid testing. Conclusion: nurses’ perceptions were related to difficulties in the face of pre and posttest counseling, requiring improvement, permanent education and training for professional preparation, and the logistics of inputs and materials, in addition to changes in the physical structure of the units.

Background: Meta-analysis of international literature indicate high frequencies of aggression in a mental health setting. Several studies indicate that among professional health workers, nurses are more likely than other staff members to experience aggressive incidences from patients. Furthermore, based on cause, nurses apply a range of interventions in managing aggression, however, despite the perceived value of their intervention in managing aggression, no single intervention is sufficient for handling aggressive patients to stay in control in wards. Despite high priority placed on patient aggression management, insufficient research studies have been conducted on nurses perceptions regarding current skills in minimizing patient aggression. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to describe nurses perceptions regarding current assessment skills in minimizing patient aggression at a selected Psychiatric hospital. Methodology: Non-experimental, exploratory, descriptive research design was used to guide the research process. An all-inclusive sampling method was used with 119 nurses as respondents. Data was collected by means of a questionnaire, analyzed using SPSS version 25. Descriptive statistics procedure was used to present the findings of the study. Results: A minority of respondents, (n=27) 22.7% agreed that their current assessment skills for minimizing patients aggression were good compared to the majority of respondents, (n=92) 77.3%, who expressed a different opinion. This suggests that there are limited current assessment skills in identifying high-risk aggressive patients in a selected Psychiatric hospital. Conclusion: The findings of the study indicate that there are limited current assessment skills in minimizing patients aggression at selected Psychiatric hospital. Therefore, there is a need to provide comprehensive information on nurses current skills in minimizing patients aggression to obtain richer information.

BACKGROUND: The practice environment influences the quality of care and the nursing outcomes achieved in their workplaces. OBJECTIVE: To examine the perception of the clinical practice environment among nurses working in mental health units in the context of their participation in an action research study aimed at improving the nurse–patient relationship. METHOD: An explanatory sequential mixed methods study was designed. The data were collected in three phases in 18 mental health units ( n = 95 nurses). Quantitative data were collected through the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index, and qualitative data were collected through reflective diaries and focus groups in the context of participatory action research. RESULTS: The nurses’ assessment of their practice environment shifted from positive to negative. Nurse manager leadership was the aspect that worsened the most. In addition, the perception of their participation in the affairs of the center and nursing foundations for quality of care decreased. The nurses considered it essential to be able to influence decision-making bodies and that the institution should promote a model of care that upholds the therapeutic relationship in actual clinical practice. CONCLUSIONS: Nurses perceived that they should be involved in organizational decisions and required more presence and understanding from managers. Furthermore, nurses stated that institutions should promote nursing foundations for quality of care. This study contributes to understanding how nurses in mental health units perceive their work environment and how it affects the improvement of the nurse–patient relationship in clinical practice.

Compassion is a basic approach to medical practice and is the core component of health care. The purpose of the present study was to explore nurses' perceptions of compassion-based care (CBC) for COVID-19 patients. In this qualitative study, the participants were selected using purposeful sampling. Individual and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 nurses, and conventional content analysis was used to categorize the data. In the care of COVID-19 patients, CBC consisted of three categories including pro-social behaviors, paying attention to the beliefs and values ​​of patients, and concern for family members. The first category had three subcategories including empathy, altruism, and helping in critical situations. The second category included the subcategories of the spiritual approach to care and respect for cultural aspects. The third category, concern for family members, had one subcategory: the need to consider the patient's family. Our findings may help to develop a comprehensive model in COVID-19 care according to which, in addition to routine patient care, nurses will consider concepts such as empathy, altruism, helping in critical situations, spirituality, cultural values, ​​and the family’s needs at the end of the patient's life.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to understand the perceptions of ethics and bioethics and how to be ethical and bioethical in daily life of Primary Health Care, from the perspective of nurses. Methods: this is a Holistic-qualitative Multiple Case Study, based on Comprehensive Everyday Sociology, with 54 participants. Results: two subcategories and the category Being ethical and bioethical in daily life of PHC: nurses’ perceptions emerged. The ethical and bioethical being permeates a subjective and abstract self, whose fears, anxieties and concerns are intertwined with the human and professional dimensions in daily work and in personal-professional relationship. Ethics and bioethics perceptions emerge from subjectivity, established relationships, lived experiences and daily actions of nurses essential to the profession, professionals and individuals to be cared for. Final Considerations: ethical and bioethical perceptions and attitudes are essential to care, management and organizational actions, health care, and the safety of users and professionals.

Caring in acute and critical care rooms has a more complex and dynamic nature due to unstable patient conditions and requires more attention from nurses. Nurses' technological competence represents their caring based on nursing science practice. This study aimed to find out how nurses’perception of caring based on technology in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room in Jember Region. This study used a quantitative method based on a descriptive survey. This study used a total sampling, with a total of 47 nurses as respondents. The researcher used a demographic questionnaire and modification of caring attribute, professional self-concept, and technological influence scale to collect data. In this study, univariate analysis was applied to analyze the data. The median score was 68, as the scores approach the maximum score of 76. This study demonstrates that nurses have a good perception toward caring based on technology. The conclusion on this study is nurses perception of caring based on technology are generally positive. To further improve nurses' perceptions of caring expressed through technological competence, the researcher advises the managerial department to facilitate education and training on technological competence in order to provide better care and caring to patients.
