This study investigated the planning, allocative and administrative efficiency of school facilities as correlates of academic performance of Senior Secondary School (SSS) students in Adamawa State, Nigeria. Correlational research design was adopted for the study. A sample of 153 school principals, 377 teachers and 19 staff of Adamawa State Ministry of Education Planning Division was randomly drawn from 248 SSS principals and 6,450 teachers using Proportionate sampling technique from five education zones of Adamawa State.School Facilities Planning and Allocation Questionnaire (SFPAQ) and Management of School Facilities Questionnaire (MSFQ), Students’ Academic Performance Proforma and Checklist were used for data collection. The reliability coefficients for SFPAQ and MSFQ were 0.82 and 0.74 respectively using Cronbach alpha. Four research questions and three null hypotheses were answered and tested at 0.05 levels of significance using mean, standard deviation and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. From the analysis, the study revealed efficient level of school facilities planning in Adamawa State, while level of school facilities allocative and administration efficiency were not efficient. The level of students’ academic performance in WAEC/SSCE May/June 2013 – 2015 was found to be poor. The study equally revealed a significant relationship between school facilities planning efficiency, allocative efficiency, administrative efficiency and students’ academic performance in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The study recommended that adequate equipping of all Senior SSS in the State should be done using appropriate and efficient procedures for allocation by government, and school principals should frequently carry out comprehensive assessment of facilities in their schools to determine areas of need.

The authors of this study have attempted to understand whether study habits affect academic achievement among secondary and senior secondary school students of Mysore. It is also attempted to know whether students at secondary level differ from senior secondary level on their study habits. The study was conducted on the sample of 625 students of Mysore City in India using stratified random sampling technique. Results indicated that the study habits facilitate higher academic achievement. Further, it was also found that secondary school students are significantly better than senior secondary students on study habits. The findings are analyzed and explained. Thus, study habit is found to be an important correlate of academic achievement.

The investigator conducted a survey to measure the attitude of senior secondary school students having Science, Art and Commerce subjects towards the use of Internet in relation to their levels of intelligence from the district Sonepat, Haryana. The Stratified Random Sampling Technique was used to draw the sampling and was administered a self-standardized Likert Type Attitude Scale. Group Intelligence Test by Dr. S. Jalota was also used. The findings revealed that Science and Art students were not significantly different at both levels of significance in relation to their levels of intelligence. It was also revealed that Commerce students were significantly different at both levels of significance.

This study aimed at investigating the effect of parenting styles on social adjustment of senior secondary school students in Kebbi State Nigeria. Ex-post facto research design was employed to collect the data. The study was carried out on a sample of 291 senior secondary school students drawn from 1,252 SS II students of six (6) selected senior secondary schools, using stratified random sampling technique. Parenting Style Questionnaire (PSQ) was used to assess three (3) parenting styles, while Modified Social Adjustment Scale (MSAS) was used to assess the social adjustment level of the students. One (1) hypothesis was formulated and tested in the study. The results of data analysis using One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) indicate that parenting styles (Democratic, Autocratic and Permissive) have significant effect on social adjustment of senior secondary school students. It is recommended that since parenting styles effect the social adjustment of students, parents should endeavour to adopt a style such as the democratic one that ensures or guarantees the development of some measure of positive self-concept, self-confidence, and self-esteem in the students.

This study investigated the effect of cooperative learning strategy on senior secondary school students’ performance in Mathematics. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design. The sample for the study consisted of one hundred and forty-four (144) Senior Secondary School two students, selected from Awka Education, Anambra State, Nigeria. The instrument for data collection was Mathematics Performance Test (MPT). The instrument was validated by three experts and had a reliability index of 0.89 obtained through the use of Pearson product moment correlation. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The collected data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while t-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 alpha levels. The result of the study showed among others that senior secondary school students performed highly when taught Mathematics concepts using cooperative learning instructional strategy; both the male and female students benefitted equally from the cooperative learning strategy. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that Mathematics teachers should adopt cooperative learning strategy as an effective learning strategy in order to improve senior secondary school students’ academic performance. Also, school management boards should organize workshops, seminars and conferences to expose teachers and students constantly to the use of the strategy for maximum academic output.

India, one of the fast growing and developing nations of the world, is doing well in growth, but it is not up to the mark in some fields. In science and technology, it is doing at par with other developed nations, and markable achievements are being touched. But in health or human growth, most of the population is not clear about the importance of health and human potentials. Many portions of the population are not aware of the positive aspects of human beings that can help them to flourish. The study has been done to find the psychological well-being of academic achievement and gender. For the study, a sample of 519 senior secondary school students from different senior secondary schools of Kulgam and Anantnag districts of Kashmir valley were selected. The sample was drawn by using a multi-stage stratified sampling technique. The tools of data collection were Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) developed by Dr. Devendra Singh Sisodia and Ms. Pooja Choudhary (2012) and academic achievement as the marks obtained by senior secondary school students in the board examination conducted by JKBOSE. The data obtained from these students were then analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques with the help of SPSS version 22. The paper also makes some suggestions, keeping the findings of the study in mind to enhance the psychological well-being of our budding human resource.

This study employed survey design in investigating the influence of mobile phone usage on academic performance among secondary school student in Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria. The sample for the study was 300 respondents selected from the total population of 6,482 respondents. Stratified sampling technique was employed to select the sample. The Mobile Phone Usage Questionnaire (MPUQ) adapted from Twum (2011), Mathematic Achievement Test (MAT) and English Language Achievement test (ELAT), were the instrument used for this study. Data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA to answer the research questions and hypotheses. The finding of this study, revealed that mobile phone usage significantly influence academic performance among male and female senior secondary school students (t = 6.113, P = 0.02), age difference was not a significant factor in mobile phone usage on academic performance among senior secondary school students (f = 6.431, P = 0.022), parent’s occupation was not a significant factor in mobile phone usage on academic performance among senior secondary school students (f = 9.005, p= 0.031) and that the frequency of mobile phone usage does not significantly influence academic performance among male and female senior secondary school students (t = 8.131, p = 0.02). It was recommended that, School psychologists, teachers, school administrators, parents and students should be sensitized on the influence of mobile phone usage on academic performance among secondary school students irrespective of gender and age differences.
