Peter Diamond is one of the major contributors to economics during the last half century. His many contributions include research on growth, Social Security, public finance more generally, the economics of uncertainty, search theory, in particular, and economic dynamics, in general. This work has shaped the way we think about many economic problems, and the way in which we formalize them. Among his long list of honors and awards, he is a fellow of the Econometric Society, a Guggenheim Fellow, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, and a Nemmers Prize winner. The National Science Foundation has supported his work for the last 40 years. A recent check indicated 9 books and 132 published articles, and there are few signs of any slowdown.

The speech reveals the figure of Borys Paton as a scientific leader, outstanding organiser, and tireless defender of national science in Ukraine. The warm memories of personal communication with the world-renowned and well-known scientist are given. The key principles of Borys Paton activity are grounded; compliance with them made it possible to turn the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic into one of the most efficient scientific organizations in the country. Attention is drawn to the unique role of Borys Paton in the years of independent Ukraine, first of all, regarding the establishment of the national branch academies of sciences. Borys Paton initiatives on developing the Joint Activity Program of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine for 2020-2022, establishing and legislative consolidating the Council of the Presidents of the National Academies of Sciences of Ukraine are enlightened. The virtual exhibitions created in NAES of Ukraine are presented: “Borys Paton. His Life is an Era in Science” of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine, and “Borys Paton and the Ukrainian Humanities” of the Pedagogical Museum of Ukraine.

January 29 marks the 70th anniversary of the famous scientist in the field of theoretical physics, physics of kinetic phenomena, plasma theory, winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2005), Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (2012), winner of nominal prizes named after K.D. Synelnykov (1991), M.M. Bogolyubov (2012), O.S. Davydov (2019) of the NAS of Ukraine, President of the NAS of Ukraine (since 2020), Director of the Bogolyubov Institute of Theoretical Physics of the NAS of Ukraine (since 2003), foreign member of the RAS (2011), foreign Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2012), Honorary Doctor of the Karazin Kharkiv National University (2010), Mechnikov Odessa National University (2015), Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (2017), Institute of Condensed Matter Physics of the NAS of Ukraine (2008), Honorary Professor of the Jilin University (2017), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1990), Professor (1998), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2006) Anatoly G. Results of the 5-year geological experimental course at school are considered. Sources and qualification of workers from Geological Department at National Science Nature Museum of National Academy of Sciences were used for teaching. The museum space was used as a place for direct understanding and study of an examined geological sample. The course included theory, laboratory and field practice, academic competition and quizzes The dynamics of knowledge changes for learners was established. Some of them chose geology as their future scientific direction after the course. Problems of teaching were noticed to be connected with the lack of motivation among students. The tendency was observed both in obtaining of profound knowledge and in learning of geology in general. The key method of the problem’s solution is achieving of ultimate dynamic in lessons It can be realized by 1) active using of laboratory possibilities at museums and academic institutions; 2) work with rock templates\minerals collections; 3) field or rocks expeditions; 4) organizations of competitions; 5) contact with parents of learners. The obtained statistical and methodical material can become a basis for next similar experiments at schools.
