The study's motivation is to gauge the effects of remittances on openness: financial and economic openness and financial stability in least developed countries (LDCs) for the period spanning 1975–2018. The study applies Generalized Moment of Methods (GMM) and System-GMM to detect the magnitude of remittances, gross capital formation, and government debt on openness and financial stability, and their directional association is established by performing a Granger causality test with System-GMM specification. The results of cross-sectional dependency ascertain the presence of a common dynamic among the research units; on the other hand, both first, and second-generation unit root tests establish that variables are integrated either at level or after the first difference, neither variables are exposed to order of integration after second difference. A panel co-integration test based on error correction confirms the availability of the long-run association among variables. Study findings with GMM and System-GMM estimation expose positive statistically significant effects of remittance inflows to economic and financial openness and financial stability. In LDCs, remittance inflows positively augment economic and financial openness; moreover, financial stability remittances play a critical role. The study implemented the Granger causality test with System-GMM specification, and results disclosed the feedback hypothesis that is bidirectional causality availability in the tested empirical causal model.JEL Classifications: F24, F43, P34.

This chapter examines the relationship between stock market indices of the biggest six economies of the European Union and BIST 100. In this context, this study used the daily time series regarding indices of DAX for Germany, CAC 40 for France, FTSE MIB for Italy, IBEX 35 for Spain, AEX for Holland, FTSE 100 for United Kingdom, and BIST 100 for Turkey from 2014 to 2018. To test whether there is a co-integration relationship among indices, Johansen co-integration test was used. Since a co-integration relationship was not found between series, causality relationship between the European stock market indices and Turkey was tested with Granger causality test by establishing standard VAR model. As a result, a unidirectional Granger causality relationship was found from DAX, FTSE 100, CAC 40, IBEX 35, and AEX to BIST 100 according to lag length 1 and 2. However, a unidirectional Granger causality relationship was only found from FTSE MIB to BIST 100 for lag length 1. For lag length 1 and 2, no causality relationship was found from BIST 100 to the selected European stock market indices.

This paper empirically examines the relationship between carbon emissions and economic growth by applying the co-integration analysis and Granger causality test to the time series data of carbon emissions and gross domestic product (GDP) of the world’s top 20 emitters from 1990 to 2015. Co-integration analysis shows that there is a long-term equilibrium relationship between carbon emissions and economic growth in most countries; Granger causality test verifies a one-way causal link between carbon emissions and economic growth in most major emitters. In developed countries, economic growth is the Granger cause of carbon emissions, while the opposite is true in developing countries. The results reflect different characteristics regarding carbon emission reduction in developed and developing countries as they are at different developing stages. Carbon emission reduction exerts much greater adverse effects on the economic growth of developing countries than it does on that of developed countries. Based on the results of the Granger causal analysis, it is found that the requirements for developing countries to substantially reduce emissions are not in line with the characteristics in their current developing stage and therefore may pose obstructions. Developed countries should take the lead in carrying out emission reductions due to their accountability for historical emissions as well as their development stages and capabilities. In addition, they should aid developing countries in their efforts for transforming and upgrading development and reducing dependence of economic growth on carbon emissions. International climate governance should take into account the needs and characteristics of different countries for future development, and build a mechanism for international cooperation to achieve synergy between social economic development and global climate governance.

Research background: Although macroprudential instruments increase financial stability, it is necessary to test how they affect the overall economic recovery after a global financial crisis. In the post-crisis period, the real sector needed a strong injection of capital in order to be able to start recovery and to encourage economic growth. At the same time, most of the countries introduced strict regulatory measures that strengthen bank capital and the liquidity base. From the standpoint of the financial sector stability, these measures contributed to the overall financial stability, but at the same time, these measures hold up the bank credit activity. Purpose of the article: This paper analyses the impact of macroprudential instruments on the bank credit activity toward the non-financial sector. The analysis is made by using the Granger Causality Test and the ARLDS Bounds Test. Methods: The research was conducted for the period of 2000 – 2019, based on the data of the Croatian National Bank and the Croatian Bureau of Statistics using logarithmic quarterly data. The analysis is made by using the Granger Causality Test and the ARLDS Bounds Test. Findings & Value added: The results confirm the thesis that additional macroprudential measures decrease the bank credit activity toward the real sector, which slows down the real sector recovery and extends the downturn in the business cycle. On the other hand, the macroprudential measures increase the financial stability of the whole economy, which is positive for future investments and recovery of the real sector.

Objective - This study examines the causal relationship between government expenditure and economic growth in West Kalimantan between 2009 and 2015. This research resulted in the enactment of Wagner's Law and/or Keynes's Theory in West Kalimantan leading the local government to take the right policies as an effort towards improving economic development. Methodology/Technique - By using panel data that combines time series data and cross-site data, it will be estimated by the Granger causality test which begins with a stationary test and co-integration test. Based on the co-integration tests, the results suggest that there is a long-term relationship between government expenditure and economic growth. Meanwhile, based on the Granger causality test, there is no reciprocal relationship between government expenditure and economic growth. Findings - A direct relationship in the form of the influence of government expenditure on economic growth in West Kalimantan. Novelty - These results are in line with the Keynes's Theory through its national income function. Abstract This study primarily seeks to evaluate the influence of financial system stability on economic growth in Nigeria from 1986 to 2016. Employing the use of Principal Component Analysis (PCA), this study constructs a Financial System Stability Index (FSSI) as measurement for financial stability. The indicators used in building the index capture three sectors of the Nigerian Financial System (NFS). The three sectors cover the banking sector, the capital market, the external sector and include a fourth component representing financial depth. The resulting index serves as a single qualitative measure for evaluating the level of stability in a nation’s financial system and proves capable of warning of an eminent financial crisis. Employing the use of four macroeconomic indicators, the index is then regressed against the Nigerian economic growth rate with an aim of discovering the short-run and long-run dynamics existing between both variables. The granger causality test, Johansson Co-integration test and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) are the estimation techniques employed in achieving the objectives of this research. The granger causality test revealed a uni-directional causality between financial stability and economic growth in Nigeria. The Johansson Co-integration test showed that long-run co-integration relationship exists between financial stability and economic growth. Finally, the VECM results find that financial stability displays a negative relationship with economic growth and bears no significant effect on economic growth in Nigeria. The findings disclose that financial stability in Nigeria may be high and has resulted in the underutilization of financial assets thus hampering sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. In conclusion, the outcome of the findings shows that while financial stability may be necessary for initiating economic growth, it is not sufficient for sustaining economic growth in Nigeria. This research work recommends that the FSSI be employed as an additional tool for measuring the condition/state of financial stability in Nigeria and in predicting the onset of a potential financial crisis. The study further recommends that financial authorities must give attention to other aspects of financial development to facilitate sustainable economic growth in Nigeria.

This paper explored whether the tourism-led growth (TLG) hypothesis is empirically relevant to Malaysia based upon both full sample and rolling sample analyses. Data from January 1995 to December 2010 have been utilised for the purpose. Instead of relying upon aggregated data of tourist arrivals, disaggregated data of arrivals from 12 major tourism markets are relied upon for more insightful and accurate findings. The empirical results suggest that there was cointegration between Malaysia's economic growth and tourist arrivals from these tourism markets. However, the results of the full sample Granger causality test indicate that only 2 out of 12 tourism markets contributed to economic growth in the short-run. The TLG hypothesis is only supported in the long run by tourist arrivals from 10 out of the 12 tourism markets. The rolling-based Granger causality test shows that it is also these 10 markets situated mostly in developed countries that could provide a stable support for the TLG hypothesis.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the long-run association and short-run causality among oil price, exchange rate and stock market in Norwegian context. Design/methodology/approach This work uses auto regressive distributed lag (ARDL) bound co-integration test to examine the long-run association among international crude oil, exchange rate and Norwegian stock market. Further to test the causality, Toda–Yamamoto Granger causality test is used. Daily data ranging from 1 January, 2011 to 31 December, 2018 is used in this study. Findings Findings of this study suggest the existence of long-run equilibrium relationship among oil price, exchange rate and Norwegian stock market when oil price is taken as dependent variable. Further, this study observes the bi-directional causality between Norwegian stock market and exchange rate and unidirectional causality between oil and Norwegian stock market (from oil to stock market). Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this the first study in context of Norway to explore the long-run association and causal relationships among international crude oil price, exchange rate and stock market index. Particularly, association of exchange rate and stock market largely remains unexplored for Norwegian economy. Further, majority of studies conducted in Norwegian setup have considered the period up to year 2010 and association of these variables is found to be time varying. Finally, this study uses ARDL bound co-integration test and Toda–Yamamoto Granger causality test. These methodologies have been used in literature in context of other countries like India and Mexico but not yet applied to study the Norwegian case.

<span lang="EN-US">In this research paper, the quarter data has been collected from Turkish Central Bank in order to determine the relationship between economic growth, FDI and participation banks of Turkey over the periods of 2002 - 2014. Several econometrical models have been implemented to reveal this relation among variables. In this context, it has been found that there is a long-term linkage between economic growth, FDI and breakdown of participation funds in Islamic banking by implementing Johansen co-integration test. On the other hand, according to Granger causality test (GCT), when the lag number is 3, there is a bidirectional relationship between GDP and participation funds in Islamic banking. According to results of both Johansen co-integration and Granger causality test, the contribution of Islamic banking to*the economic growth of Turkey is so vital. The linear regression analysis has to be used to reply the research questions. The results indicated that there is the considerable impact of GDP on Islamic bank deposits in Turkey which is founded 0.0006.</span>

Islamic Capital Market is important part of Financial System in ASEAN countries especially in the context of AEC. The objective of this paper is to investigate interconnection long run equilibrium of Islamic Capital Market in ASEAN Countries. Using daily closing price for from September 2007 to October 2012, this study examine five Islamic Capital markets in ASEAN namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. This study examines on Integration among these Islamic Capital markets by relies a simple correlation test, Granger causality test and co-integration test using error correction model. This research documents some interesting finding. First, Using Johansen estimation technique, there is co-integration between the considered Islamic indices namely; Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Second, Since the co-integration exists, granger causality test shows that there is three bi-directional causalities namely; between Malaysia Islamic Capital Market and Singapore Islamic Capital Market; between Thailand Islamic Capital Market and Singapore Islamic Capital Market; and between Singapore Islamic Capital Market and Philippines Islamic Capital Market. However, there is a unidirectional between Indonesia Islamic Market (MCIINA) and Malaysia Islamic Market (MCIMY), MCIINA and Philippines Islamic Market (MCIPhil), MCIINA and Thailand Islamic Market (MCITHAI), it implies that MCIINA affects MCIMY, MCIPhil, and MCIThai but not vice versa. Third, based on VECM suggest that all Islamic indexes are inter-related in the long run that can be explained due to the similarity of structure bring about by its stock as required by shariah in the process stock screening.

It is interesting to get inside and draw a meaningful inference by studying the movement of various stock indices. Portfolio managers, analysts, and investors are very keen to know about the technical pattern of indices. They consider the stock market is one of the economic barometers or market indicators of an economy. Indian financial market has undergone radical and vital change during the past few years. The purpose of this study is to check stochastic movements in selected indices and to signify nexus and interdependency among one another by the virtue of econometric analysis. The study comprises of daily closing value from 1st April 2014-1st April 2018, including major indices i.e. S&P-BSE 100; S&P-BSE-200, S&P BSE-500, S&P-BSE:Large cap, S&P-BSE:Mid-cap, S&P-BSE:small-cap, and BSE-SENSEX. Moreover, typical econometrics tool Augmented Dickey-Fuller Test, Granger Causality Test, and Johansen Co-integration Test were implemented to conclude the result. The study is one of its kinds to analyze the static and pair wise relationship among seven BSE indices along with the direction of their expected future movement that would help practitioners, policy makers and investors in anticipating the future movement of the indices. The Dickey-Fuller and Johanson test administered to analyze unit root and co-integration among the series in long run, followed by Granger causality test to observe the route of the short term relationship among various indices. The tests reveal uni-directional and in some cases bi-directional causality in selected indices. Further, it has been observed that due to co-integration, prices of different indices can’t move far away from one another [1]. This stochastic study delves volatility pattern of some major indices of Bombay stock exchange with the help of econometric tools. It clearly delineates nexus of all the indices and provided an explanation to appreciate concrete conduct of one series into a mutual relationship. Hence, investors or analyst may predict the movements, interdependency and their relationship in a significant manner.
