Transporting quantum information is an important prerequisite for quantum computers. We study how this can be done in Heisenberg-coupled spin networks using adiabatic control over the coupling strengths. We find that qudits can be transferred and entangled pairs can be created between distant sites of bipartite graphs with a certain balance between the maximum spin of both parts, extending previous results that were limited to linear chains. The transfer fidelity in a small star-shaped network is numerically analysed, and possible experimental implementations are discussed.

Hope and life courage in illness narratives after stroke This essay illuminates the meaning of hope and life courage in the narratives of Tomas and Maria, a couple who had experienced the life changing consequences of Maria’s stroke. Hope is supported by the couple’s strong and loving relationship and by empathy and caring in their relationships with professional caregivers. In this way, the relational component of hope is revealed as the most important prerequisite for maintaining hope. The analysis demonstrates that life courage and hope are strongly needed for trust in the future and rehabilitation efforts. However, careless and unprofessional attitudes and practices of clinicians may lead to loss of control, poorer self-image and hopelessness. To support the hope of patients and relatives, clinicians must show caring attitudes and use both medical and humanistic knowledge. They should not devalue the phenomenon of hope as unrealistic.

In the recent years, the design and analysis of the security of e-commerce protocol has become a hot scheme. The confidentiality and fairness are important properties to measure the security of the e-commerce. It's also the important prerequisite of the successful protocol. Confidentiality and fairness are the basic properties of the secure e-commerce protocol. But the certified e-mail protocol as one of the e-commerce protocol can't satisfy these properties. This paper points out some drawbacks of teh CMP protocol, and analyses the protocol and makes improvements. The improved CMP protocol satisfies the confidentiality and fairness.

AbstractIn recent years, more and more technical systems dispose of some form of intelligence which allows to control and diagnose the processes and states in such systems. One important prerequisite for both control and diagnosis is monitoring, i.e. a systematic observation, surveillance or recording of entities of a technical product or its surroundings by any technical means. Current investigations were able to clarify that the design of a technical system can ease the control and diagnosis of this system. The same is true for monitoring; this fact will be demonstrated in this paper on the example of a research vehicle which is intended to foster the development of mapping systems and algorithms. In a sense, the main objective of this vehicle is also a kind of monitoring. Due to its unique design, this vehicle is able to navigate on all kind of terrains. It is equipped with several forms of sensors, which are consciously mounted at certain positions on the vehicle in order to allow a detailed detection of the surroundings. The investigation, how design can ease monitoring, was supported by a well-known model of product concretization and concrete insights could be found on all levels.

Career paths of South African Managers. The changing nature of work results in upward mobility within organisations becoming increasingly limited. This requires individuals to rethink their careers. An important prerequisite for this is adequate self-knowledge. Preferred career paths are often related to the "career culture" of an organisation, which is often not aligned with individual motives and needs. The aim of this study was to determine the match between career preferences and career motives. The results on the whole indicate a poor match between these constructs. Recommendations are made on the basis of these findings. Opsomming Die veranderende aard van werk veroorsaak dat opwaartse mobiliteit in organisasies meer beperk raak. Dit verg dat individue opnuut oor hulle loopbane sal moet besin. 'n Belangrike voorvereiste hiervoor is voldoende selfkennis.

The article deals with the issues of renovation (renewal) of the agricultural machinery and tractor fleet by developing models for developing an optimal strategy for its technical re-equipment. The optimal service life of machines in operation is considered as the most important prerequisite for the scientific management of such an update. The main criterion for the optimal strategy is the effectiveness of replacing a particular machine with a new one. The relevance of solving this problem is determined by the urgent need to plan the pace of technical re-equipment of the MTF, taking into account the presence of various economic restrictions.

Precise timing of muscle contractions is an important prerequisite for motor control and one to which the cerebellum contributes. Braitenberg et al.'s detailed timing hypotheses relate only to a subset of the known features of the organisation of the cerebellum. However, the cerebellar architecture clearly supports the “tidal waves” that are central to the authors' proposal and such tidal waves are very likely to contribute to its functions.

In design-based stereology, fixed parameters (such as volume, surface area, curve length, feature number, connectivity) of a non-random geometrical object are estimated by intersecting the object with randomly located and oriented geometrical probes (e.g. test slabs, planes, lines, points), [4], [5], [8], [11], [12]. Estimation accuracy may in principle be increased by increasing the number of probes, which are usually laid in a systematic pattern, [1], [2], [3], [7], [9], [10]. An important prerequisite to increase accuracy, however, is that the relevant estimators are unbiased and consistent. Our purpose is therefore to give sufficient conditions for the unbiasedness and strong consistency of design-based stereological estimators obtained by systematic sampling.

This paper describes application examples of RAMSIS, a 3-D CAD human model for ergonomic truck evaluations, to truck design. RAMSIS realistically simulates truck driver postures and locations, an important prerequisite to having confidence in subsequent ergonomic analyses. We show examples of how visibility evaluations compare to traditional SAE methods, arm reach and force evaluation; and an example for entry/exit evaluations.
