The importance of clinical information related to specimens is increasing due to the research on human biological specifications being conducted worldwide. In order to utilize data, it is necessary to define the range of data and develop a standardized system for collected resources. The purpose of this study is to establish clinical information standardization and to allow clinical information management systems to improve the utilization of biological specifications. The KBN CDM, consisting of 18 tables and 177 variables, was developed. The clinical information codes were mapped in standard terms. The 27 diseases in the group were collected from 17 biobanks, and all disorders not belonging to the group were standardized and loaded. We also developed a system that provides statistical visualization screens and data retrieval tools for data collection. This study developed a unified management system to model KBN CDM that collects standardized data, manages clinical information, and shares the information systematically. Through this system, all participating biobanks can be integrated into one system for integrated management and research.

Human-derived materials are a crucial element of research in the life sciences. The Korea Biobank Network (KBN) portal is a shared open platform that provides the nationʼs most extensive disease resources, possessed by Human Bioresource Unit Banks of the KBN, to the public, including those in the fields of industry, academia, and research. This platform was developed to increase the efficient use of national disease resources. In the KBN portal, the current status of disease resources collected in Korea can be checked online. Human bioresources and clinical information are provided to consumers through systematic search and efficient distribution programs. Additionally, by simultaneously operating the KBN Distribution Support Center, we are working to support the rapid and convenient distribution of human resources in response to the needs of consumers. To effectively utilize the open human bioresource sharing platform, it is necessary to introduce an integrated clinical information management system. Currently, the KBN is in the process of establishing standard terminology for data and applying a common data model for the integrated management of various clinical information held by the KBN. We provide communications through the KBN portal, which is interconnected with the distribution support center, regional biobanks, and consumers. In conclusion, the KBN portal will provide open innovation by creating a business or service model by delivering shared open data and internalizing external innovative capabilities.

Information systems collect and disseminate information within organizations based on information technology, while management systems formalize business processes following the standards requirements. Since management standards proliferate, their integrated adoption into a holistic overarching system has emerged as an effective and efficient approach. In this context, this chapter aims to explore the potential synergies among information management and integration. Firstly, a focused literature review is conducted and survey data on the relevant standards evolution are processed in order to provide the information and management practitioners with a clear and oriented depiction of the available norms and their adoption possibilities. Furthermore, a framework is proposed consolidating management sub-systems into an integrated structure including information management and supported by information systems. Finally, the concept of internalization of management systems standards is understood in association with information and knowledge diffusion within an integrated management system.

AbstractStandardizing clinical information in a common data model is important for promoting interoperability and facilitating high quality research. Semantic Web technologies such as Resource Description Framework can be utilized to their full potential when a clinical data model accurately reflects the reality of the clinical situation it describes. To this end, the Open Biomedical Ontologies Foundry provides a set of ontologies that conform to the principles of realism and can be used to create a realism-based clinical data model. However, the challenge of programmatically defining such a model and loading data from disparate sources into the model has not been addressed by pre-existing software solutions. The PennTURBO Semantic Engine is a tool developed at the University of Pennsylvania that works in conjunction with data aggregation software to transform source-specific RDF data into a source-independent, realism-based data model. This system sources classes from an application ontology and specifically defines how instances of those classes may relate to each other. Additionally, the system defines and executes RDF data transformations by launching dynamically generated SPARQL update statements. The Semantic Engine was designed as a generalizable RDF data standardization tool, and is able to work with various data models and incoming data sources. Its human-readable configuration files can easily be shared between institutions, providing the basis for collaboration on a standard realism-based clinical data model.

Employers seek people that match particular qualifications and graduates seek jobs that match their qualifications. This market is currently managed primarily using paper certificates and heterogeneous university management systems that capture achieved learning outcomes as well as corporate information systems that capture required qualifications. In light of trends toward increased student mobility, employability and lifelong learning, this situation is less than satisfactory. Therefore, in this paper, the authors propose a schema that facilitates interoperable storage and management of Personal Achieved Learning Outcomes (PALO) based on a common data model. This paper presents use case scenarios and implementations addressing these challenges and demonstrating the added value of using such a common model.

The relevance of creating integrated management systems for enterprises in a digital transformation environment is proved. New approaches to improving the management system in accordance with the new European excellence model (EFQM 2020) and international standards for achieving sustainable success and risk management are described. Approach to the development of integrated management system model based on the new EFQM 2020 model and international standards such as ISO 9004:2018 and ISO 31000:2018 is offered.
