A series of photopolymers based on ethylene glycol phenyl ethyl arylate (EGPEA) monomers and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix with varying initiator concentrations and sample thicknesses have been synthesized and their optical performance characterized in this study. The advantages of lowering the initiator concentration, including a rather short initiation time within a few seconds; a sharp rising optical response; and a stable saturated diffraction efficiency are demonstrated. The variation in the diffraction efficiency and response time with the exposure energy under various sample thickness and initiator concentrations is examined; a diffraction efficiency as high as 80% and a relatively short response time of 12–39 s are attainable. The dependence of the normalized optical parameter “sensitivity” on the exposure time is depicted, and the peak value of S ranges vastly from about 0.2 to 1.2 × 104 cm/J within a period of 15 s or so, with a maximum value of nearly 1.2 × 104. Favorable evidence of low initiator concentration can further be found when the dependence of the saturated diffraction efficiency with the exposure energy is examined. The data from this study using a low initiator concentration cover a range of exposure energy from 100 to 800 mJ/cm2 and a saturated diffraction efficiency from about 15% to 80%. The successful image reconstruction of 6-membered-ring metal nuts on a hologram based on this EGPEA/PMMA photopolymer system using a reflective holographic recording setup is demonstrated to verify its applicability to holographic storage.

Doping different concentration of ZrO2in Mn:Fe:LiNbO3crystals, a series of Zr:Mn:Fe:LiNbO3crystals were grown by the Czochralski method. The infrared transmission spectra and the photo-damage resistant ability of the crystals were measured. The OH-absorption peak of Zr (2mol%):Mn:Fe:LiNbO3crystal shifts to ultraviolet. The photo-damage resistant ability of Zr (3mol%):Mn:Fe:LiNbO3crystal is about three orders of magnitude higher than that of Mn:Fe:LiNbO3crystals. The diffraction efficiency, response time of Zr:Mn:Fe:LiNbO3crystals were measured by two-wave coupling experiment. The response time of Zr (3mol%):Mn:Fe:LiNbO3crystal is only one tenth of that of Mn:Fe:LiNbO3. The mechanism of OH-absorption peak shifting and improvement of holographic storage properties was discussed.

Background: Due to the low water solubility of Docetaxel (DTX), it is formulated with ethanol and Tween 80 with lots of side effects. For this reason, special attention has been paid to formulate it in new drug nano-carriers. Objective: The goal of this study was to evaluate the safety, antitumor activity and tissue distribution of the novel synthesized Raloxifene (RA) targeted polymeric micelles. Methods: DTX-loaded RA-targeted polymeric micelles composed of poly(styrene-maleic acid)- poly(amide-ether-ester-imide)-poly(ethylene glycol) (SMA-PAEE-PEG) were prepared and their antitumor activity was studied in MC4-L2 tumor-bearing mice compared with non-targeted micelles and free DTX. Safety of the micelles was studied by Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining of tumors and major organs of the mice. The drug accumulation in the tumor and major organs was measured by HPLC method. Results: The results showed better tumor growth inhibition and increased survival of mice treated with DTX-loaded in targeted micelles compared to the non-targeted micelles and free DTX. Histopathological studies, H&E staining of tumors and immunohistochemical examination showed the potential of DTX-loaded RA-targeted micelles to inhibit tumor cells proliferation. The higher accumulation of the DTX in the tumor tissue after injection of the micelles compared to the free DTX may indicate the higher uptake of the targeted micelles by the G-Protein-Coupled Estrogen Receptors (GPER). Conclusion: The results indicate that RA-conjugated polymeric micelles may be a strong and effective drug delivery system for DTX therapy and uptake of the drug into tumor cells, and overcome the disadvantages and side effects of conventional DTX.
