The coordination polymer, namely, [Cd(H2L)(nobda)]n (1) was prepared by the reaction of Cd(NO3)2·4H2O with 4-amino-1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2nobda) and 1,4-di(1H-imidazol-4-yl)benzene (H2L), and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). The carboxylic acid of H2nobda ligands was completely deprotonated to be nobda2− anions, which act as tridentate ligand to connect the Cd2+ to form two-dimensional (2D) network, while the neutral H2L ligands serve as a linear didentate bridge to connect two adjacent Cd2+ ions upper and down the 2D layer. The adjacent 2D layers were further linked into the three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular polymer by the weak interactions such as hydrogen bonds and π−π stacking interactions. The ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectra and luminescent properties in the solid state at room temperature have been investigated.

A new coordination polymer, namely, [Cd(L)(frda)(H2O)]·0.5L·H2O (1) was synthesized by hydrothermal reaction based on mixed multi-N donor 1-(4-(1H-imidazol-5-yl) phenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole (L) and O-donor 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid ligands (H2frda) with CdCl2·2.5H2O. Compound 1 was characterized by single-crystal x-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, and IR spectroscopy. In 1, both the multi-N donor and O-donor frda2− ligands act as linear two-connectors to bridge Cd(II) atoms, forming a two-dimensional (2D) layer. Interestingly, the parallel 2D layers stack in an AAA···mode, and the infinite one-dimensional (1D) channels formed along the a-axis direction, where the uncoordinated L molecules were embedded in the void. Furthermore, the weak interactions including the rich hydrogen bonding and π−π stacking interactions progress the 2D structure into a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular polymer. Diffuse reflectance spectra and the luminescent property were also investigated.

A new compound, namely, [Zn(L)2]n (1) was obtained by the reaction of 2-methyl-4-(4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl) benzoic acid (HL) with ZnSO4·7H2O, and the compound was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric analysis. The linear HL ligands were deprotonated to be L− anions and act as two-connectors to link Zn2+ to form a two-dimensional (2D) lay structure with (4, 4) topology. The large vacancy of 2D framework allows another layer structure to interpenetrate, resulting in the formation of 2D + 2D → 2D parallel interpenetration in 1. The weak interactions, such as hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking interactions, connect the adjacent 2D layers into a three-dimensional (3D) coordination polymer. The solid-state UV-visible spectroscopy and luminescent property have also been studied.

A new Ag(I) coordination polymer [AgL(NO3)]n 1 (L=4-(pyridine-2-yl)methyleneamino-1,2,4- trizaole) has been synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The Ag(I) atom has a seesaw environment with an N3O donor set from three N atoms of two ligands and one O atom of one NO-3 anion. Each twisted tridentate ligand is bound to two silver centers, and each silver atom is coordinated by two ligands thereby generating a zigzag chain structure. The chains interact with each other featuring a three-dimensional supramolecular network through multiple weak C-H···π interactions and C-H···O hydrogen bonds. The luminescence properties of the polymer 1 were investigated in the solid state at room temperature.

The design and synthesis of coordination polymers with a self-penetrating architecture has attracted much interest not only due to their interesting structures but also due to their potential applications. 5,5′-Bis(pyridin-4-yl)-2,2′-bithiophene (bpbp), as a conjugated bithiophene ligand, can exhibit trans and cis conformations and this can lead to the construction of a self-penetrating architecture. In addition, the semi-rigid ancillary ligand 4,4′-oxybis(benzoic acid) (H2oba) can adopt different coordination modes, resulting in coordination polymers with high-dimensional skeletons. A new CdII coordination polymer based on mixed ligands, namely poly[diaquapentakis[μ-5,5′-bis(pyridin-4-yl)-2,2′-bithiophene-κ2 N:N′]bis(nitrato-κ2 O,O′)tetrakis(μ3-4,4′-oxydibenzoato)-κ10 O:O,O′:O′′,O′′′;κ6 O:O′:O′′-pentacadmium(II)], [Cd5(C14H14O5)4(NO3)2(C18H12N2S2)5(H2O)2] n , (I), has been synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction indicates that there are three crystallographically independent CdII cations, three bpbp ligands, two deprotonated oba2− ligands, one nitrate ligand and one coordinated water molecule in the asymmetric unit. One CdII centre is seven-coordinated, exhibiting a distorted {CdN2O5} pentagonal bipyramidal geometry, while the other two Cd centres are both six-coordinated, showing slightly distorted {CdN2O4} octahedral geometries. The most interesting feature is the co-existence of trans and cis conformations in a single net, allowing structural interpenetration via self-threading and yet the expected self-penetrating structure was obtained. Topological analysis shows that the whole three-dimensional framework can be classified as a 3-nodal (4,6,6)-c net with Schläfli symbol {613.82}2{66}, which is a new topology. Furthermore, the luminescence properties of (I) were examined in the solid state at room temperature.

Three new inorganic–organic coordination polymers based on a versatile linking unit 2-(1H-imidazole-1-yl)acetate (Hima) and divalent Mn(ii), Ni(ii), and Cu(ii) ions, exhibiting two kinds of two dimensionalities with different topological structures, have been prepared in water medium and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Reaction of MnCl2·4H2O and Ni(NO3)2·6H2O with Hima yielded neutral two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymers [M(ima)2]n, M = Mn(ii) 1, and Ni(ii) 2 with isostructural 2D coordination polymers possessing (3,6) topology structures, which further stack into three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular networks through C–H···O weak interactions. However, when Cu(NO3)2·4H2O was used, a neutral 2D coordination polymer [Cu(ima)2]n 3 consisting of rhombus units was generated, which showed a 3D supramolecular network through C–H···O weak interactions. Among these polymers, the building block ima anion exhibits different coordination modes. These results indicate that the versatile nature of this flexible ligand, together with the coordination preferences of the metal ions, plays a critical role in construction of these novel coordination polymers. Spectral and thermal properties of these new materials have also been investigated.

The title coordination polymer, poly[bis[μ3-4-(3,2′:6′,3′′-terpyridin-4′-yl)benzoato]cadmium(II)], [Cd(C22H14N3O2)2] n or [Cd(3-cptpy)2] n , (I), has been synthesized solvothermally and characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction. The structure is composed of 3-cptpy− ligands bridging Cd atoms, with each Cd atom coordinated by six ligands and each ligand coordinating to three Cd atoms. Each Cd atom is in a slightly distorted trans-N2O4 octahedral environment, forming a two-dimensional layer structure with a (3,6)-connected topology. Layers are linked to each other by π–π stacking, resulting in a three-dimensional supramolecular framework. The strong luminescence and good thermal stability of (I) indicate that it can potentially be used as a luminescence sensor. The compound also shows a highly selective and sensitive response to 2,4,6-trinitrophenol through the luminescence quenching effect.

Abstract Based on a semirigid tricarboxylate ligand 5-((4-carboxyphenoxy)methyl)benzene-1,3-dioic acid (H3L), a new Pb(II)-based coordination polymer formulated as [Pb(HL)(H2O)](H2O) (1) was synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray structural analysis, power X-ray diffraction, and elemental analysis. Compound 1 is a two-dimensional layered structure formed by the connection of the one-dimensional Pb(II)-based secondary building unit chains with the partly deprotonated HL ligands, which are further extended into three-dimensional supermolecular structures through the H-bonds. Furthermore, the size of the as-prepared 1 could be downsized into the nano region through a simple ultrasonic method. Finally, the antilung cancer activities of 1 and the nanosized 1 have been probed via the MTT assay against three human lung cancer cell lines (A549, H1299, and PC9).

Two new coordination polymers, namely, {[Cd3(bpt)2(bimb)2]·2(H2O)}n (1) and [Zn3(bpt)2(bimb)2]n (2) (bpt = biphenyl-3,4′,5-tricarboxylate, bimb = 1,4-bis(1-imidazol-yl)-2,5-dimethyl benzene), have been obtained under hydrothermal conditions. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterised by elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy. Complex 1 exhibits a trinodal (4,4,4)-connected topology with Schläfli symbol of (4.62.83)4.(64.82). Complex 2 is also a three-dimensional structure and displays a (3,4,6)-connected topology with Schläfli symbol of (4.62)2.(42.66.85.102).(64.82). It is shown that the asymmetrically tricarboxylate can bear diverse structures regulated by metal ions. The photoluminescence behaviours of compounds 1 and 2 were also discussed.

AbstractIn this work, a coordination polymer formed from 4,5-diamino-3-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ium chloride (DAMT·HCl) and HgCl2 formulated as [Hg5(μ-DAMT)2(μ-Cl)6(μ3-Cl)2Cl2]n has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis of the complex revealed an organic-inorganic hybrid coordination polymer containing three different mercury atoms with coordination numbers of 4 (HgN(μ-Cl)2(μ3-Cl)), 5 (Hg(μ-Cl)3(μ3-Cl)Cl), and 6 (HgN2(μ-Cl)2(μ3-Cl)2) and seesaw, octahedral, and square pyramidal geometries, respectively. The polymeric chains are extended to a three-dimensional (3D) array by C–H···Cl and N–H···Cl interactions. In addition to these hydrogen bonds, there are Hg···Cl interactions with the mercury atoms with coordination numbers 4 and 5 to complete their pseudo-square planar and -octahedral geometries, respectively.

A new coordination polymer (CP), namely, poly[[diaquatris[μ2-1,4-bis(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene]bis[μ6-4-(2,4-dicarboxylatophenoxy)phthalato]tetracobalt(II)] hexahydrate], {[Co4(C16H6O9)2(C12H10N4)3(H2O)2]·6H2O} n , has been synthesized by solvothermal reaction. The CP was fully characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It presents a three-dimensional (3D) structure based on tetranuclear CoII secondary building units (SBUs) with a tfz-d net and point symbol (43)2(46·618·84). The 4-(2,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)phthalic acid (H4dcppa) ligands are completely deprotonated and link {Co4(COO)4}4− SBUs into two-dimensional (2D) layers. Furthermore, adjacent layers are connected by 1,4-bis(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene (bib) ligands, giving rise to a 3D supramolecular architecture. Interestingly, there are numerous elliptical cavities in the CP where isolated unique discrete hexameric water clusters have been observed. The results of thermogravimetric and magnetic analyses are described in detail.
