In this paper, a new application of Bonobo (BO) metaheuristic optimizer is presented for PV parameter extraction. Its processes depict a reproductive approach and the social conduct of Bonobos. The BO algorithm is employed to extract the parameters of both the single diode and double diode model. The good performance of the BO is experimentally investigated on three commercial PV modules (STM6-40 and STP6-120/36) and an R.T.C. France silicon solar cell under various operating circumstances. The algorithm is easy to implement with less computational time. BO is extensively compared to other state of the art algorithms, manta ray foraging optimization (MRFO), artificial bee colony (ABO), particle swarm optimization (PSO), flower pollination algorithm (FPA), and supply-demand-based optimization (SDO) algorithms. Throughout the 50 runs, the BO algorithm has the best performance in terms of minimal simulation time for the R.T.C. France silicon, STM6-40/36 and STP6-120/36 modules. The fitness results obtained through root mean square (RMSE), standard deviation (SD), and consistency of solution demonstrate the robustness of BO.

A modified version of the artificial Bee Colony Algorithm (ABC) was suggested namely Adaptive Dimension Limit- Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm (ADL-ABC). To determine the optimum global path for mobile robot that satisfies the chosen criteria for shortest distance and collision–free with circular shaped static obstacles on robot environment. The cubic polynomial connects the start point to the end point through three via points used, so the generated paths are smooth and achievable by the robot. Two case studies (or scenarios) are presented in this task and comparative research (or study) is adopted between two algorithm’s results in order to evaluate the performance of the suggested algorithm. The results of the simulation showed that modified parameter (dynamic control limit) is avoiding static number of limit which excludes unnecessary Iteration, so it can find solution with minimum number of iterations and less computational time. From tables of result if there is an equal distance along the path such as in case A (14.490, 14.459) unit, there will be a reduction in time approximately to halve at percentage 5%.

AbstractThresholding is the easiest method for image segmentation. Bi-level thresholding is used to create binary images, while multilevel thresholding determines multiple thresholds, which divide the pixels into multiple regions. Most of the bi-level thresholding methods are easily extendable to multilevel thresholding. However, the computational time will increase with the increase in the number of thresholds. To solve this problem, many researchers have used different bio-inspired metaheuristics to handle the multilevel thresholding problem. In this paper, optimal thresholds for multilevel thresholding in an image are selected by maximizing three criteria: Between-class variance, Kapur and Tsallis entropy using harmony search (HS) algorithm. The HS algorithm is an evolutionary algorithm inspired from the individual improvisation process of the musicians in order to get a better harmony in jazz music. The proposed algorithm has been tested on a standard set of images from the Berkeley Segmentation Dataset. The results are then compared with that of genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), bacterial foraging optimization (BFO), and artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC). Results have been analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively using the fitness value and the two popular performance measures: SSIM and FSIM indices. Experimental results have validated the efficiency of the HS algorithm and its robustness against GA, PSO, and BFO algorithms. Comparison with the well-known metaheuristic ABC algorithm indicates the equal performance for all images when the number of thresholds M is equal to two, three, four, and five. Furthermore, ABC has shown to be the most stable when the dimension of the problem is too high.

Sidelobe level suppression is a major problem in circular array antenna (CAA) synthesis. Many conventional numerical techniques are proposed to achieve this which are time consuming and often fail to handle multimodal problems. In this paper, a method of circular array synthesis using nature inspired flower pollination algorithm (FPA) is proposed. The synthesis technique considered here adapts one and two degrees of freedom, namely, amplitude only and amplitude spacing. The effectiveness of the FPA is studied by comparing the results with genetic algorithm (GA) and uniform circular array antenna (UCAA) with uniform spacing. Also the effect of additional degree of freedom on the aperture size and the computational time is analyzed. A relative side lobe level (SLL) of −25 dB is achieved using the algorithm under both no beam scanning (0°) and beam scanning (15°) conditions for 20 and 40 elements of CAA.

It is usual to interpret Mill's understanding of liberty in terms deriving from his distinction in On Liberty between self-regarding and other-regarding conduct. Granted this distinction and Mill's genuine concern to define and defend it, it remains a relevant question why he attached so much importance to it. This raises a less familiar theme in Mill, namely the inter-connection of self-regarding and other-regarding conduct. An uncommitted reading of the main texts suggests an equivalent value is attached to this. Mill clearly and constantly asserts a close connection between each person's own attempt to improve himself, to cultivate his ‘affections and will’, and the social and political structure in which he acts. Self-regarding virtue and responsible social conduct are interdependent; the quality of each depends upon the quality of the other. A fuller recognition of this and its central place in Mill's revision of Bentham may be of help in examining some of the particular problems raised by recent scholarship on Mill.
