The present paper focuses on an integrated evaluation methodology aimed at measuring the attractiveness of rural landscapes. The landscapes under observation are two exceptional contexts in Piedmont (Italy): The Moraine Amphitheatre of Ivrea and the vineyard landscape of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, which have recently been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The proposed investigation tool consists of the use of a system of landscape indicators, from which a synthetic index called the landscape economic attractiveness index has been obtained, and the integration of the results in a dynamic model, considering the synthetic index as a factor of people mobility in a multi-pole system. This integrated approach aims at supporting the decision-making process in the definition and orientation of landscape and territorial transformation policies, respecting the landscape components.

The historical center of Zamość was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992 and over next 25 years the city has undergone great changes. Thanks to numerous restoration, preservation and maintenance works we are now able to admire the beauty of its monuments and perfect spatial harmony. But this is not the end of planned work. Zamość Old Town is a historical part of a vibrant city and therefore needs to evolve constantly in order to satisfy the contemporary requirements of urban population. Concurrently, over that period of time theory of conservation and preservation of monuments and evaluation methodology of the value of goods inscribed on World Heritage List have developed significantly. Hence, the 25th anniversary is a perfect occasion for a renewed evaluation of Zamość Old Town’s value and more in-depth analysis in accordance with current methodology and state of knowledge. It enables further specification and indication of authentic and material carriers of its value which determine its further existence. At the same time, it will allow indicating the limits of possible interference. In addition to this, the outcome of this thorough analysis will be of great use in taking decisions on further actions and investments, which is particularly important with monuments so heterogeneous as a historical city center.

Abstract As most oilfields in Ecuador are approaching to the end of the service contracts under an advanced degree of maturity, it was imperative to implement a fast-track integrated methodology that supports the decisionmaking process during assets' evaluation. This practice aimed to identify new business opportunities and assure the rehabilitation of brownfields. These fields became a target for investors willing to intervene in new joint ventures with moderate risk to boost production and returns. The methodology is prepared to overcome specific challenges such as severe reservoir pressure depletion, harsh water management issues, facilities constraints and integrity. All this while keeping economics and safe operational standards. This process is divided into five stages: First, the diagnosis of field challenges and associated risks, so that review the current status of subsurface and surface aspects. Then, the following three parallel phases are focused on the study of reservoir architecture, dynamics and performance. Finally, the remaining potential of the asset is assessed by integrating action plans to take advantage of current facilities capacities. This workflow was implemented for the evaluation of three assets: Asset 1: Mature field with a secondary gas cap where its current reservoir pressure is 800 psia (initial pressure 4,200 psia). The asset was evaluated in fifteen (15) days resulting in an integrated solution with 14 activities: conversions to injectors, water source, upsizing, reactivations, change zone, and new wells. The results presented an incremental recovery factor of 6% (by 2028) with an expected production peak of 3,500 BOPD (by 2021). Asset 2: A field producing from two main reservoirs with harsh water management issues under a non-monitored waterflooding scheme with challenging sweet spots identification was evaluated in 10 days, resulting in a redevelopment plan considering: production losses optimization, sixteen (16) activities: workovers, dual completions, new wells, reentry, shut-in, and conversion to water injectors. This evaluation delivered an incremental recovery factor of 10% (by 2029). Asset 3: Producing for around one-hundred (100) years with 3,000 wells drilled. There was a lack of pressure support and facilities and well completions integrity. The fast-track assessment focused on production optimization lasted fifteen (15) days, resulting in one-hundred eighteen (118) wells for reactivation representing an additional recovery factor of 3% (by 2029). This work supported the process for contract's renegotiation and assets' acquisition. This integrated methodology aimed to maximize the assets' value while considering the involved shareholders' needs. Each asset was analysed in an integrated and collaborative manner through the propper resources identification and the usage of the latest technology and workflows. High-resolution reservoir simulation, complex python scripts, and a chemical processes simulator were used to perform an in-depth evaluation and meet the expectations.

Carl Ritter von Ghega was proclaimed 2018 Surveyor of the Year on 21 March 2018. In this paper, we explore how this Austrian of Albanian extraction, born in Venice, played an important role in geodesy and the surveying profession and the honours he got up to the present day. We investigate his background and details of his professional path, education and most important contributions in the areas of surveying and engineering at large. We describe his most significant achievement, that is, the Semmering Railway, which was dismissed at the time as impossible to achieve. In 1998, the Semmering Railway was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Apart from this project, which left a great impression on the engineering profession, von Ghega also developed the Borovnica Viaduct built in the mid-19th century in Slovenia.

Today, limes is an en vogue term in Romania. Scientific research, heritage protection and, more recently, politic discourse – they all deal, directly or indirectly, with issues regarding the Frontiers of the Roman Empire in today’s Romania. In the context of nominating the Frontiers of the Roman Empire as a serial site of UNESCO World Heritage, each of the previously mentioned domains has its responsibilities towards the monument itself. In this study I focus on explaining the different understandings of the term limes. Next, I found it rather important and well-timed to discuss the main tasks and obligations of archaeological research, of the industry of tourism and of archaeological heritage protection in Romania throughout the entire process of nominating and inscribing the Limes on the UNESCO List, as well as after this process is long over.

The chapter analyzes the impacts of World Heritage List designation on the local economy, residents, and environment in the Vietnamese site of Hoi An Ancient Town. Findings from the study raise concerns about managing heritage tourism in developing countries. While Hoi An successfully attracts a large number of tourists and enjoys economic success from tourism, social and environmental sustainability are in question. This case study demonstrates that management of tourism at World Heritage-listed sites is facing challenges of land speculation, inflation, commodification of local culture, and environmental degradation.

In today's competitive global environment, cities are striving to stand out and be attractive to investors, visitors, and residents. City branding is an important tool to differentiate the city from its competitors and to be preferred by visitors. Every city has its own characteristics resulting from its historical development, the influence of its geography, and its social, cultural, and economic past. Therefore, the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of cities is vital for their promotion and branding. This study aims to show the importance of their cultural heritage, which is the most fundamental feature to differentiate themselves from their competitors in city branding. It is emphasized that the cultural events organized in cities or the assets specific to cities, most of which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List, have a significant impact on city branding. In addition, the chapter explains the impact of digitalization, which is one of the most important developments of our time, on city branding and cultural heritage.
